Next Gen Polo GTI is too seen under test, could launch earlier than expected, in late 2017.

Which means that the MQB 2017 Polo is as big as the Mark 4 Golf, which was just over 4m long.

As far as the Indian market is concerned, I am not sure if there is scope for shaving 170mm to bring the car under 4m. However, with the GST regime likely to result in the end of the sub-4m "small car" incentive, not sure if this is going to matter too much.

Either ways it was reported that India is not likely to get the Polo in the MQB platform but the existing platform PQ25 which will be tweaked and internally code named VX x26 IN NF (PQ26). Look wise it will look simialr to the Gen next Polo. The reason cited is the cost involved in this new platform seem currently exorbitant for justifying the business case.

Next Gen Gol for Brazil will be based on the MQB platform A0, lower variation of the modular platform that is already in use in Golf.

The result will be a larger and more spacious: sources speak at length until 10.5 cm larger, reaching 4 m long and about 2.55 m wheelbase.

the Gol will have limitations in relation to the Polo, especially with cost. In Europe the most powerful Polo will be one of the first VW with the modern motor 1.5 TSI of 150 HP, for here the big news will be the 1.6 16V turbo MSI with the same 150 hp. Levels of consumption and emissions are lower, but it will be cheaper. Still, it would be a great argument for a possible Gol GTI.

The same platform will give rise to new MQB A0 , the new Sloop and expected compact SUV from Volkswagen

India Plans -

We will need alignment with the Brazilian, South African and Russian markets that have demand for similar products.

With top officials revealing the alignment of strategy with Brazilian market - This is most likely to come to India- Polo and the Compact SUV!

Both will look like the Global product with control on cost!

VW begins testing the New Gen Gol for Brazil - Visually speculated to look like the Next GEN Polo for Europe. Will this be India bound as the 2018 Polo?

Expect also a Polo GTI version for emerging markets.

In visual, the Gol 2018 will be very similar to the new Polo, but, of course, more simplified, even by the different positioning of the models in the markets where they will be sold.

The three-cylinder 1.0 engines, TSI and 1.6 16V 1.0 MSI are already confirmed in the new generation of the Compact. It is speculated that the 1.4 TSI Flex is also part of the catalog

With VW plans of aligning India plans along with the LA market , it is most likely the Polo and the Polo GTI's ( MBQ A0) are India bound in 2018.

Yes the Polo GTi's are likely to be with the 1.4TSI @ 150hp, while the standard will come with the 1.0L TSI @115hp.

There are already two engines confirmed for this new model 1.0 turbo 115 hp and 1.4 turbo of 150 hp.

Will the 2018 Polo GTI (Brazil) be shown at the São Paulo auto show?

The new Polo is likely to be based on the MQB A0 platform which will also underpin the all-new compact SUV due in 2018. Like the current model, the new Polo is likely to get the localised 1.2 TSI four-cylinder motor with a similar amount of power (112hp) and a retuned and more powerful version of the 1.5 TDI (117hp) that’s currently made here.

As per the reports, they are still hung up on using the 1.6 TDI derived motor. Internationally, 1.6 TDI has been replaced with a 1.4 TDI engine putting out the same power and torque.

The MQB-based Polo facelift (Mk6; 6C) launched in 2014, comes with the 1.4 TDI. By the looks of the GTI launched in India, it seems to be the Mk6 model, that is newer than other Polo variants sold here at present.

Why the Next Generation (Global) Polo will not come to India?

the VW MQB platform, which has already formed the basis of 58 models across the group and eight million vehicles sold. MQB A0 will underpin 2017’s new VW Polo and then be used across the group’s small cars with next generation SEAT Ibiza, Skoda Fabia and a range of smaller SUVs set to use the new platform.

As well as weight and cost benefits, MQB A0 also brings a range of advanced driver assistance technologies that haven’t yet been seen on small cars. It’ll also mean that vehicles as diverse as the Polo and the five meter-long VW Atlas SUV will be built on MQB platforms, with length differences of over one meter.

VW bosses have also hinted at the need to fill the gap between next year’s even larger Polo and the up! city car, although it might not wear a VW badge. VW has confirmed two further group brands – one to be used in emerging markets and one for its smart mobility solutions – but Skoda and SEAT offerings are also expected to fill that gap.

Details of Gen next Polo emerge. To be unrelieved at the Frankfurt Motor show in 2017 and will go on sale in Q4 2017.


Will be built on the MQB A0 platform and will be bigger than the existing one which is on the PQ25 Platform.
Speculations are a length of 4,17m, the reason for the increase in size in the wheelbase, which will rise of 2.47 m to 2.56 m, a standard measure in MQB A0.


This space is only 1 cm bigger than seen in Polo/Vento Sedan currently sold in Europe, Russia and India. So, probably the new Polo Sedan should not grow as much as the hatch.

The new Polo engine is expected to be a new 1.5L TSI, will deliver 75, 100 / 115 HP and will be accompanied by an equivalent 1.5 diesel TDI. ( will not be the 1.0L as to meet the emission norms a biiger engine will be needed.)

Will be with the virtual cockpit which is now seen in the New Golf,

I am not sure that the scenario will be post GST. So it will be prudent for VW to wait. The habit of a car putting on heft between updates is very common. Remember if they have a lot of imports in the body, then stocks may not last long.

Volkswagen will most likely NOT bring this Polo (MQB A0) due to cost reasons and will get the one simialr in design but in the modified PQ25 Platform.

GST has no role in its decision and purely cost of manufacturing which is prohibitive in these cost sensitive markets.
