I wanted to see if it makes sense for MSIL to put together a 5-door version for India. Most of the renders I had seen will push the vehicle over 4 meters and it will become too expensive to sell in significant numbers. I do not think Maruti will even consider bringing it to India if it can't be a sub-4M vehicle.

So I put together a quick-and-dirty model, largely made to scale. It is not super-accurate, but provides a fairly good idea of what it can look like under 4 meters and it can be a stunner if Maruti can be convinced to go after it.

The current model is already 3.55 meters long, so there is not a lot of space left to play with. It will have storage very similar to the Thar, which is non-existent, if you use the second row. The wheelbase also has to be increased to 2.81 meters for this to work.















Considering the amount of work involved (brand new everything, other than the switch gear), I am not very hopeful if Maruti will ever convince themselves to build the 5-door version. Realistically, I think they will only do the 3-door version here, if they ever do.

BTW, a combination of the K15B mated to an AT gearbox with Cruise Control on the Jimny sounds like the perfect to answer to what will be my next automobile?

From what I recall, the Jimnys I saw on a short visit to Israel way back in 2010 looked almost like the new ones does!

From the pictures of Jimny posted it appears that speedometer calibration for Jimny is 140 km/h where as for sierra it is 180 km/h. I guess that cruise control would be for sierra only.

This is what we were expecting to see when Mahindra announced the Roxor in America. A rugged looking vehicle with boxy, straightforward and traditional Jeep-ish looks with modern, functional and practical interiors. the 1.3 MJD in 90 PS tune would really make this a complete package. I am somehow unable to image the Jimny splashing and ploughing through off-road situations without that grunt from a diesel mill And now that I have seen the Sierra, I am unable to un-see and go back to the plain looking Jimny.

Man, we just have to give it to Suzuki for coming up with such interesting and tempting cars at affordable prices

Good chance of this being launched here, they don't have too much market outside Japan, except for India and Indonesia. Plus more interest we show, more chance of Suzuki launching it here! Forums are more closely watched than we think.

Well India has been Suzuki's best market for quite sometime now, but still they didn't find it fit for something as mainstream as Swift Sport which has been sold across the world for so long.

Having said that I hope they bring in this lovely little vehicle to our shores. This would make an excellent weekend off-road vehicle for the enthusiasts.
