With the increasing demand Jimny has seen across the world, it would be foolish of Suzuki and Maruti not to utilise the manufacturing capacity in India for Jimny and subsequently launch it in the Indian market.

Suzuki must proactively plan media drive for one of its biggest market, by inviting select media persons from India.

Very interesting to read drive experience from Samurai or Khan Sultan with some great pictures.

Indonesian PRESIDENT Jokowi visited the new generation Suzuki Jimny Sierra on the sidelines of the opening exhibition GIIAS 2018, talks with the President of Suzuki dealership , seen as his special interest to the vehicle.

So it turns out that Jokowi had an earlier generation of Jimny, and he had seen this and is happy

Suzuki has not yet committed for Jimny sales yet in Indonesia.

Is mostly done when a model is being considered for the Indian market and the company wants the journalists to publicise the same - so they can get direct feedback from the journalists and also indirect feedback from the market. This could help with a lot of decisions like product positioning and pricing later on.

Maruti is unlikely to follow this strategy as they known the Indian market more than anyone else.

Suzuki decides to manufacture Jimny in Indonesia, hope we will have a favorable decision for India too.

However the variant 4×2 or 4×4 is yet to be decided, as the company is chasing a competitive price.

The new Suzuki Jimny is set to be assembled in Indonesia. If it’s to be sold in the republic, it would come from one of the company’s four plants in Indonesia, as opposed to being imported CBU from Japan

Dubbed as a MINI TOYOTA Land Cruiser - Jimny Excels in its DNA!

Jimny has proportions that make it appear bigger than it really is. But it’s not just that conservative, approachable exterior that’s generating such interest.

Pretty much every other aspect of the tiny Suzuki is exactly what the market wanted

While not explosive, power delivery is gradual and sufficient, especially above 3,000rpm. Beefy bottom-end torque helps the Sierra get over just about any hill and through every ditch; it’ll happily wade through small streams as well.

the three-link rigid axle suspension has been tuned to cater to both on-road and off-road handling. As a result, ride quality takes a huge leap in the right direction.

ON ROAD:

On the road, the Jimny is vastly improved, then. While it still rolls in bends, it doesn’t sway nearly as much as it used to, and once committed to a corner, it will hold its line.
There is a slight delay in the steering on-centre, but overall the Suzuki delivers decent control. Brake response is significantly better with grippier initial bite and less nose dive compared with the old model.

True OFF-ROADER:

Where the Jimny truly excels alongside city-biased rivals is off road. Challenged over mud, dirt and 35-degree inclines, the Sierra breezed every section of our complex off-road route. There wasn’t even the need to engage the low-range box; it really felt like a mini-Toyota Land Cruiser.

The new hill descent mode and ‘two-second’ hill-hold control also work effortlessly to stabilise the car on steep slopes.

Interiors:

Inside, the Jimny is more modern than before, with big clear dials and an Ignis-inspired infotainment system. The SUV is quieter on the road and the seats more comfortable than before.
Higher-quality materials and plastics are used throughout, without neglecting off-road details like the passenger grab handle.

Visibility:

Visibility is excellent all-round, but a rear camera is missing from the options list. Suzuki makes up for it with cruise control, auto emergency braking and a lane-departure alert,

This Jimny may also be around for 20 years.

Looking at the initial response to the Jimny in the international market and after watching the waiting period soaring beyond a year in few countries, I have no hopes left at all for the launch of Jimny in India. Obviously that's my guess which may prove wrong in future.

Having said that has anyone thought about Importing Jimny to India? What would be the approximate Custom duty for importing? From which country should it be imported? And is it worth to Import rather than ?
Any thoughts?

If reports are to be believed Jimny for India will be the 5 door version. Not YET green lighted ( but eventually it will) and will come in FY20. Link

Reliable sources within Maruti Suzuki have informed us that the company is not keen on bringing the three-door version of the Jimny to India as it would not make a good business case for the country’s largest automaker. The Jimny is also not a high priority for Maruti, which is occupied in upgrading its cars for the upcoming BSVI emission norms and Bharat NCAP crash test norms at the moment.

Meanwhile the little Suzuki keeps on impressing test drivers:

I love the new Jimny to bits! Its second new Suzuki that I really adore after the Ignis. Both follow a retro modern design which I am a big fan of.

Hope MSIL can get it here with a potent petrol engine. Add rear wheel drive + low ratio, and it should a whole lot of fun on our roads.
