Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

I love the idea of a small displacement turbo petrol and also the larger power output version as well. I also like the looks of the Sierra. The color palette is also awesome and every shade seems to suit the Jimny/Sierra.

3 Door is nothing to think about as I have been using a Thar daily for 6 years. However a 5 door version would make it even more practical and widen the acceptability for folks with family. Really hoping to hear this is confirmed for India.

Going by what Maruti has been doing in India, they might launch the Jimny in India for sure. However that will be a lesson in cost saving for the entire automobile industry. I'd rather import one from Japan and live happy ever after.

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

We want to believe Suzuki Jimny will come to India... so read on,

Suzuki Jimny to share K15B petrol engine with new Ciaz and the upcoming Ertiga. Five-speed manual and four-speed automatic are too not new to India.

Further on ACI reveals:

Quote:
Toshihiro Suzuki’s disclosure to Autocar India a few years ago that “Except kei jidosha products (Kei cars), we will bring all new Suzukis to India”, it could be a matter of when rather than if the Jimny is launched in India.
Bookings in Japan indicate Jungle Green and Kinetic Yellow are the favorite colors in demand.

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Jimny will have tyre size of 175/80R16 ( 27 inches of diameter) where as Sierra will have 195/80R15 (27.3 inches diameter ) .It seems that ground clearance will be higher than 250 mm. I guess that Sierra will be launched in India with 1.5 litre petrol engine which will be used in facelift ciaz.

The diameter is represented in inches after the letter "R" (i.e., 15 and 16 respectively), 175 and 195 represent the profile size of tyre in millimetres, and 80 represents the size of the cross section (also in millimetres).

So my guess is that the Sierra being the bigger vehicle will have the bigger tyre as well (i.e., the 16 incher or the 175/80R16)

What a brilliant little vehicle the Jimny is! I'm sure all of us on this forum would pick it up without hesitation. Those inclined towards SUVs anyway.
The second part of a tyre size detail is actually not a measurement, but a ratio of the preceeding tyre width mentioned. So in the above case sidewall height is 80% of the width, not actually a measure in mm.

This will sell like hot cakes, looking at the weather outside in Mumbai, how many of us city boys would not love to drive around in a car costing 8-10 lakhs which can probably wade through rivers, potholes and mountains?

I agree. The concept of a petrol 4*4 is in my opinion a bit impractical if you plan for India. However the Gypsy did run a petrol engine, but the long term use or sales are likely to be affected if a Diesel power plant is not thought of as an variant

This data has been taken from the official brochure of Jimny in Japan. There has been mathematical equation to calculate tyre diameter from it's specification. The basic body structure is the same for both Jimny and sierra.

Suzuki has removed diesel engines from its SUV line up except India.

I had the same thought till I saw the weight figures. At 1030kg, its 6kg lighter than the topmost variant of Tiago Petrol.

Add Maruti weight (and cost) savings - the 1.5 petrol might prove to be very efficient and powerful for this small SUV. Even the K12 might be enough for normal uses, except for low end torque offroad.

For comparison - Thar CRDe weights 1685kgs.

I agree, but people don't touch petrol SUV's here, look at Maruti in India, Brezza with a diesel only engine, S cross with a diesel only engine, Ertiga with most being sold as diesels etc etc, Indians and their love for Diesel SUV's is everlasting, I for example if Jimny was launched, would not touch it it if I had to buy a petrol one.

Exactly the point I'm trying to make. A 4*4 has a target audience in people who love to travel or explore. If a petrol SUV is brought in then it practically removes that audience atleast in India.

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

The Jimny must be introduced into the Indian market in this very form. The Indian market is no less when compared to the world markets.

There is a large opportunity for the Jimny in the 3 door short chasis form with a lot of offroading and other outdoor adventure activities gaining momentum in India.

Look at stores like decathalon, they offer a common Indian with sports and activities unheard off for decades in India and they are growing.

Of course, a 2 door hatchback or sedan may not gain the liking by family oriented car buyers. However, think about the window of opportunity the Jimny will open up for the adventurous lot.

I personally feel that Maruti must launch the Jimny in India.

With the dwindling demand for diesel vehicles all over the world, the Jimny will be welcome with the petrol version.

I love it and can't wait to own one.

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

It is reported that Suzuki Jimny will be launched in Australia during 2018 only. Hopefully it will also be launched in India at the same time. I guess the price could not be less than Rs. nine lacs. Jimny sounds to be very much of premium quality.
