Firstly congrats on your pre-loved Grand Vitara. Do post the pictures of the car. Is it the 2.0 or 2.4? Also M/T or A/T.

I need help regarding service.
Recently took my GV to MASS vashi. No one touched her for one our saying that only some senior person would assist me with the GV. The senior person though seemed to know but never worked on a GV before. Lots of disappointing things done to my car by their mechanics and i have a very sad vibe about these guys.

Can anyone please suggest reliable workshop/mechanic in Navimumbai for the GV.

One doesn't need any special training on GV to service it. Any competent Suzuki/Maruti mechanic can find his way around it. You think Udupi Maruti service center has GV specialists? Their owner has a GV, so they figured it out themselves.

Hi Guys,

I've had a strange problem come up in my GV. The car revs but does not accelerate. It revs up to 2000 rpm but when I depress the accelerator pedal it does not accelerate. I've been doing some reading online and all reviews point me towards a slipping clutch/ transmission issue. I called my mechanic and he seemed a little confused when I explained the problem to him. There was a clanging noise and a stutter that I used to get earlier when I was on low revs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Slipping clutch will not limit revs. Rather the engine will rev but car will not move or move proportionally slower.

Likely causes : ECM reset, clean throttle body, clean wiring connections, check in ignition coils and lastly check fuel filter.

Cleaning filter is long job and involves putting vehicle on lift, removing prop shaft, removing tank and then the fuel pump + filter assembly. The wire mesh filter at bottom of assembly gets choked and needs cleaning. Though dealer normally would say replace entire assembly.

Do not get into a funk. The first cause, ECM reset, is most likely to solve the problem.

Reminds me of a problem I had in Baleno long ago. It turned out to be a broken crankshaft bolt.

IMO if the car is in good condition you could have quoted 3.75 to a individual(real good condition car with genuine 85K and service records) and 3.5 Lac to a dealer.

I think I'm going to rechristen you doc! Took my car to Vitesse in Andheri and left it with the guys overnight to check for solutions. They did an ecm reset and the car was running in super shape by the time I got to the dealership today. They also did a fuel injector cleaning and for a bill of Rs. 1700, Eleysium was running and back in business, munching the Bombay potholes just like it should be.

Though I have another nagging issue that I'd forgotten about that just cropped up. I got my tires aligned and rotated a couple of months back and had also got my brake pads changed the week before that. After that, every time I'd turn the car right, it made a strange scraping sound. I took it back to the alignment guy and we checked but couldn't find a solution. Surprisingly as it started, the same way it disappeared and I forgot about it. But today it resurfaced again. Any clue what it might be. It's a strange scraping sound, that's the best I can describe it.

Good that ECM reset solved the problem. But this could have been done by you simply by removing the ground terminal of battery for couple of minutes and then putting it back on!

When the engine management light came on, I took it to the service center. The filter clean wasn't directly a part of solving this problem but it rectified a low gear stuttering problem. My car hasn't driven like this in a while now. Vitesse Andheri definitely gets a thumbs up in terms of service and knowledge.

A few checkpoints :

1.What is the tyre size you're running the GV on?
2.Are the wheel well fender flaps properly fitted?
3.Is the left front strut weak? Is the vehicle sagging to the left.
4.Is there something stuck to the tread of the front tyres?Some tape or something similar?
5.The GV doesn't come with mudflaps.Have you fitted mudflaps?If yes , is the one on the right side a little loose?

Maybe some photographs of the wheel well(on the inside of the wheels) might help diagnose the issue.

My engine bay is a mess. My MASS does not wash the engine during servicing. Sometime in the past, before it came into my hands, the whole engine bay was treated with lacquer. That coating has started cracking, particularly on the wires and hoses. As a result of all this the bay is a mixture of dust, oil stains and grease and other smudges. My local car detailer has offered to pressure wash the bay whilst covering up the ECU with protective plastic sheet. Is it advisable? Or is there any better method?

I have got my GV's engine bay pressure washed keeping the ecm covered ; have faced no issues.
