Re: My New Refreshed Scorpio LX

@Anjan - the cowl applique will have a foam piece on either side to channel water into the quarter panel drain. This foam piece will fall off after about 5 years, you can use a 'P' section seal tape from Amazon to create this. That will prevent things from dropping through that place.

Do open the quarter panel on either side and clean them out, the lack of this foam piece would have let some leaves down in there.

@Diwakar Muthu - Please install the Boodmo app, Mahindra's pretty much full catalogue is available, I had ordered the door bushes mentioned in the picture and got them as well.

It seems that link for the dampener (door Inner) has already been provided. Link for the end cap for the side footstep:-

Right Hand Rs 122=00 each

https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-end_...291.1618058772

and Left Hand @ Rs 113=00 each

https://boodmo.com/catalog/part-end_...291.1618058772

Please order a few spare ones too. Last time they did not charge me for the courier fees. Hence it worked out pretty reasonable. The black ones would require body colour painting though, if you have got the bumpers, front grille and door knobs etc painted.

Re: My New Refreshed Scorpio LX

Hello Anjan,

Hope you are doing good. Has your Scorpio completed its 15 year mark or about to complete it.

Wanted to know if you are still holding it or do you plan to extend the registration by a few more years?

Re: My New Refreshed Scorpio LX

These rubber mini dampeners atop the four doors (absent on the tailgate) are quite necessary as a mini support system for each door. Only one OE on the rear left door was in place (creditable) as on this date after 14 plus years of use. As these do not have any imposing or significant looks, one tends to ignore their presence or absence.

But I had got brand new ones through boodmo (thanks to them for their stocking such spares too). Fitting could be an issue but using a little water helps the mini dampener get through the slot, gain grip and smugly fit in place. If fitting takes some efforts, I am not sure how those three could fall off sometime, somewhere at some place?

Re: My New Refreshed Scorpio LX

^ Nice , I had replaced them when they started to become a bit loose / hard. Usually they get knocked off when we clean / wipe that place hard. The ones on top are cone shaped and the other ones towards the bottom are ribbed cylindrical shape.

Re: My New Refreshed Scorpio LX

Hey Anjan, I presume your no nonsense brute SUV would have crossed 15 years of ownership.

Do you still own the vehicle or have you extended the registration for few more years? Keen to know about it

Thanks for requesting update. Its still with me and will soon appear for its 5 year fitness test. Thank God, I am not located in the NCR where my SUV would have been history by 2019.

Lovely, look forward to your 15 year+ experience provided here

I have 14 more months before mine goes for the 5 year extension. Not sure what to do considering the situation in Bengaluru. So will take a decision at that time

Re: My New Refreshed Scorpio LX

My Brute SUV of 2009 has gracefully done 15 years with me. It was registered on 17.04.2009, and was among the earliest from the refreshed batch and has rendered flawless service to me for over one and a half decade now. Other than components that suffer the normal wear and tear that were replaced, almost all its components are factory fitted and OE from 2009.

As it was completing 15 years, I geared up the fitness schedule starting to pay the requisite charges online and also doing all necessary formalities like getting a fresh PUC and so on. The PUC people told me that the exhaust emissions are quite within limits and they were also a bit taken aback, stating that such SUV's are overused and seldom reach such clean emission levels. And my Scorpio is only BS III compatible! So with the Green Tax payment (Rs 3,500=00 for five years for diesels in Maharashtra) done and the insurance valid, all documents were ready for the D-Day. These days the VAHAN portal does not accept payments online if there are gremlins like invalid insurance, invalid PUC, Green Tax not paid, fine/s pending for traffic offences, accident involvement and so on. Only when all such requirements are complied with, the fitness fees are accepted online. Thereafter, the next steps for fitness can be taken up by the owner. Earlier, one had to take clearance on the hard copy and get it signed by the prosecution wing of the RTO stating that no accident cases are pending. Only thereafter the fitness could be done. VAHAN has taken care and does not require us to move around seeking clearances.

With all the formalities completed, the SUV was put up for fitness (2024-2029) today 15.04.2024 before the RTO. The AMVI had a thorough look, checked its functioning and also indicators, brake lights, reverse lights, headlights, parking lights and so on. Most important of all is the chassis number which is engraved on the ladder frame chassis to the right (drivers side). The wheel needs to be steered fully toward the right for the chassis number to be visible. The engine number is engraved near the water pump to the left which has to be seen after opening the bonnet.

After all the checks to my glee, the AMVI okayed the fitness valid from 2024-2029. Hence the Scorpio gets a new lease of life for another five years.

To all doomsayers, who have assertions that Mahindras do not age gracefully, the images can very well portray real facts. I have till date never had to used the self starter for the second time during the past fifteen years. It has always started with the first crank. Only once when its battery got weak in 2019, it required more cranking. I immediately changed the battery.

Hoping for another five years of pleasant ownership, that will be further extendable in the future.

The fellow has aged beautifully. One of the primary reasons for me to go for the LX was your thread out here. I am about to enter into my 15th year of ownership in another 4 months. I am not sure if I will be allowed to extend in Chennai or Bengalurur for another 5 years.

Your paint looks glowing all these years. Guess you are staying far away from seashore?

Thanks and quite enthused to know that your choice also in 2009 was based on this thread. Yes I am far away from the seashore.

Yes, fitness for five years at a time is still allowed by both the Chennai and Bengaluru RTO's as of now. If you decide to keep it please renew at the proper time else fines are steep.

Re: My New Refreshed Scorpio LX

Congratulations, and lovely to see it in such a flawless condition! Maybe it’s age catching up to me, but I find these older simpler cars much more attractive than the new breed.

I had to let go of mine with a heavy heart at 9 year mark due to the dreaded NGT with less than 50k clicks on the odo. Anyway, it’s with one of my old time friends far away from NCR, so hope it will chug along just fine for few more years.
