re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

quick update.
This thread helps me keep track of what all is being done.

Finally installed a Momo gear knob, full chrome affair.
This rides about 0.75 to 1 inch higher than the ford one, ONLY.
But boy oh boy is there a learning curve.
The thing is though, now my hand sits more comfortably angled both at the wrist and the elbow.
But I love the way it looks.

re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

Ok.
A couple of weeks ago, I was on the Expressway, and when I pulled out of the tollbooth, about 2 seconds out of it, I slotted into 2nd, and floored the throttle(Intake is made to work full time when I drive alone.), and noticed a bit of lag, ie, the engine revved, but the car hesitated for a fraction of a second.
Next day took her up to NCR ford guys(Harpeet is out now).
He said, the clutch is old now, and on its way out.
He said you can drove for about 2-3k kms more, no worries.
It will give MUCH worse slippage before it lets go.

But hey, whats this?
all of a suden, as I am driving home, the clutch pedal feels VERY hard, the car is not jumping ahead as quickly as I want it to, overall performance feels 60% off.......Ofcourse all of this was in my head, but that's our "keeda", aint it?
Clutch going?
WRONG!
its gone, and HAS to be replaced!

Next weekend I am at NCR guys, 1000 deposited, 1830 collected.

What was done was :
1. Changed the clutch and its associates
2. Changed both front discsand pads
3. Front underbody diffuser reinstalled.

For the clutch work, apparently the intake has to be dismantled.
I asked for the guy who would be working onmy car,and kudos to NCR for bringing out the person.
I told hims clearly that only 2 bolts need to removed, and the whole assembly comes off, and he listened.
Thank god for that.

Total came to 19k.

Here's the breakdown:
Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New/Used car ownership at 1,15,000 km EDIT: Now sold!-20120625-17.29.59.jpg

Its a completely different animal now.
I'm still getting used to the feel of the clutch, but although it wasnt really hard per se, its much less effort now...
(OF COURSE IT IS, YOU JUST SPENT A BOMB ON IT!!)

Projectors and HIDs done

So finally went and splurged on the Projectors.
I actually wanted just the projectors installed, but this guy, Rocki, offered the full kit and installation in such a low price, that I thought lets put these in for now.
The temperature is not exactly what I was looking for , 6k, but my main concern has been addressed, getting the projectors.
Can always change the HIDs later.
Guy was installing it till 1230 in the night, so kudos on that.
Still has to be given a once-over by him in daylight, and then done.
Here we go:

The parking lamps.(I need to get these done so that they aint a full circle, but about 75 degrees worth on the lower left.not a fan of the BMW esque "angel eyes")

Head-on.
(Thats the installer)

High and low:

I drove the new dzire for bit at night, and realized how bad my own stock reflectors and lamps had become.
New units would have come to about the same as for the projectors, so decided, why not?

I am happy so far.

So what was the final dent to the pocket? Looks like the HIDs are only on the low-beam or does hi-beam also have it?

And did the installer do the installation at your home? How about adding his review in the directory section?

Dent was surprisingly slight,8.2.
They're bi, in the low beam pod.
High beam will have regular bulbs of regular temperature for Delhi fog.

Will put up his review once full service has been rendered.

Man, for 8k you got an amazing deal. Now you'll find dzire headlamps to be inadequate

BTW do you have headlight leveling switch in your fiesta, If yes does it work with projectors as well ?

Cheers,
Sameer

8.2 is very good!

If the low beam has bi then how do you switch to the normal high beam (inner bulbs of the H/L unit)?

Oh, didn't check....

If i recall, the leveler is attached to the reflector, innit?
Nothing's been done to the reflector, so I think I am in the clear.

I still have to drive at night to see if they are better, but Ill tell you one thing.
Those humongous Dzire reflectors, they're REALLY loud!

That, sir, will entail a separate switch dependent conditions.
Right now, theres nothing in the high beam pods.

re: Fiesta 1.6 Sxi 2006 : New / Used car ownership at 52000 / 98000 kms

Over the last week, the car was at Noida ford.
It got into a t-bone with a UP indica cab.
Good enough shunt to take out the right front wheel and wing.
The car was towed, heart-breakingly, over the badlands leading to sector 63, noida, on its rear wheels.

Damage to the car was surprisingly minimal.
Turned out that only the shock absorber and the wing was gone. The bumper was bent, but not broken . Insurance kicked in.

I got the other shock absorber replaced, just for the heck of it, and also the bumper.
total came to 20k, out of which I had to pay 11k.

Then the guys told me that the tyres are nearing end-of-life, and I was like "what??I just changed them!!".Then I came here to check and saw i have run them for close to 30k, with hard braking and turning. So , ok.

BUT, here's a fact as shared by Ford that was a shocker.
I recently shifted over to east delhi from central, and commute to gurgaon daily. So I was exploring CNG options(against the will of every cell in my heart!!).
And what i came to know is that if you have an aftermarket CNG kit installed in your ford, you will not be allowed inside and authorized service centre.....

can somebody verify this?

Follow your heart. Leave the duratec with the intake & enjoy it until you sell it. Old wine gets better right? So get another ride diesel / CNG and then use the fiesta on weekends to realise that you did not make a wrong decision by not fiddling with it!

I had to replace the right wing because a of a moron on 4 wheels. (wish you a thousand cuts!!)
So I ended up losing one of the blue ovals I had put in place of the sxi badges.
Ordered these, and am mighty glad with how they look.

Presenting , the only "ring"ed fiesta! !
