Yeah that was my first instinct too - to preserve the glimmer of the fresh coats, but then the inevitability of the infinite loop that is Bangalore's traffic and the wounds it inflicts made me pause and rethink....

Update : Just measured my FE for the first time after the redos - 14.02 in the city with the AC used about 60-70% of the time! This includes a couple of 140-160kmph "test drives" on the NICE corridor. I am truly amazed, and consider myself a better driver already

What might be the biggest factor ? From all that I've read, the K&N OE replacement cannot make that big a diff. The alloys ? Yokos ? Castrol Magnatec (and associated engine flush) ? New sparks ? Shell (tho I've tanked up there earlier too) ? Or a sum of parts ?

The best I'd got in town before this on the same car was about 11 - in fact a fraction under that.

(I only hope I've not totally missed a refill - tho I think I havent - its never less than a 1000/- worth of petrol, and that would've shown up in the numbers).

Full tank to full tank - automatic cut-off. Measured distance covered between fills - and fuel put in. Of course there's bound be some difference in the auto-cut-off sensors at different stations, but even if its a litre extra, its abt 13.7 kmpl. I'm happy Of course, need to see if this is a one off...

14 Kmpl is not impossible on an OHC 1.3, but i would prefer to wait & see an overall monthly FE check. Enjoy.

Anyways, fingers crossed!

oh well, first long distance drive to Chennai and back over the weekend. 3 ppl, AC on all the time, 60% boot utilization, and speeds mostly bet 110-130 with lots more interruptions on the way back cause of rain related traffic speeds variations.

12-12.5 kmpl. But she drives beautifully, point and shoot control and very sure, confident braking. And the AC seems to have hardly any impact on the little 1.3.

So much for my 14kmpl dreams

thats crazee FE figures - atleast by wat im getting/...., i get around 8 in the city on my 1.5 with headers, FFE, K AND N with some moderatly aggresive driving and around 10-20% max a/c usage

on highway i get 12-13

that 1.3 must be dramatically more FE than the 1.5 or maybe im missing out on something

Your driving style appears similar to mine. You may be one who drives more aggressively on highway, with frequent downshifts for overtaking?

14 should be quite acheivable, but then what is life without some fun

Hey zenx,
Nice to find a 1.3 lover.
I also own a 98 1.3 OHC.
Modifications :
1. Headers
2. Free flow exhaust.
3. K n N stock replacement filter
4. Alloys
5. Bridgrestone (13")
6. Spoiler (after market, twin blade)
7. Pioneer HU
8. Dual subs (pioneer), Xplod rear speakers, pioneer tweeters, carbon satellite speakers.
9. RPM meter with shift light.
10. In-car Neons(blue)

FE : 11 (max) in city
Suggestions :
1. Please let me know how to increase the FE.
2. Goin for a tyre change (wider would be better)
I have same budget as yours. So please suggest.
3. A proper service station in bangalore for engine tune up.

Not bad, knowning your driving habbit i think its a decent milage.

My 1.3 is giving around 13 in city(without AC), hardly using 4th gear..
On Hiway easy 16, with bit of AC usage and speeds ranging from 90-120

My car has Headers, FFE and K&N filter.

ah, good to know i have fellow horribly-fuel-inefficient-drivers around here
Yep, I love downshifting and "slingshoting" a lot - and the sound of that beauty at 6-7krpm. Hit 120 in 4th - on long straights - ahhhhh what a lovely feel.

@mikon I've got Yokos - ES100s - 195/60r14s with the vtec enkei alloys - totally recommend these tyres - the car feels very well planted even doing the chennai highway flyover curves at 3 digit speeds - and saw massive amounts of rains through without the slightest issue yesterday.

I get her serviced at RAC in Koramangala, and based on the experience so far, would recommend them.
