The curved surface adhesive mount is designed for mounting on objects roughly 6" in radius (ie. a helmet).

The flat adhesive mount should work in this case, though from what i understand its a very permanent fix, so make sure you want to do it.

Also mount the cam close to the glass to prevent reflections, and to a dry placement test first so that you can account for all the connectors etc).

PS - The easier / less permanent option is to suction mount it to your windshield.

Is it possible to use an old mobilephone as a car cam. I haven't been able to get a correct mounting system. Most of the mounts generally cover the rear camera and defeats the purpose. Maybe someone can suggest a quick DIY idea. Another issue is the length of the video. I would actually prefer a video that gets chopped at regular intervals to reduce the file size. Don't mind multiple files but handling one large file is difficult.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

GoPro had a special Employee Purchase Program for our company in which we could acquire the GoPro HD Hero 2 for 50% off (now I know why). I wasn't aware that the Hero 3 was launching and hence purchased the HD HERO2 Motorsports Edition with a bundle of accessories (also on discount between 25%-50%) namely:

LCD BacPac
Wi-Fi BacPac + Wi-Fi Remote Combo Kit
Chest Mount Harness
HD Wrist Housing
32GB SD Memory Card, Class 10
Head Strap Mount

The total bill came to $403.73 (lets say $400).

Package was delivered to a relative's place in the USA just this week and my relative will be getting it down for me next to next week. And today I come to know the HERO 3 has launched and that would be a better option for me.

Hey there, what all option do you miss in Hero 2 compared to Hero3. Are you going to use it for professional purpose?

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S6102. Costs approx 8,500.
S/w: Daily Roads
Mount: Came free with my old Asus P527 mobile.
City: Hyderabad

The recording setup is very easy. You ask it to retain x seconds.
When the video is on, simply tap on the screen. The last x seconds would be stored as a file.

You can save the audio. I did not chose to do so.
A large part of the route is on the Hyderabad ORR.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

I was planing to buy a Go Pro camera. But instead can I buy a video digicam in which I can fit an external wide angle camera that i can fit on my helmet. Not the digicam on helmet, but the lighter wide angle camera. Possible???

What exactly you mean by this? You want to get 2 separate devices?

I'm looking at getting the silver edition. Do you know what are the mounting accessories that come by default ? I'm looking at mounting it on my bike, car and also carry it for a few under water expeditions. The website talks about "assorted mounts and hardware". Not sure what this means !

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Got the Contour Roam with the Watersports Kit for just $99 on a black friday amazon goldbox sale. Someone will carry it down for me from the US.

Bought some extra mounts as well.

Was actually interested in buying the GoPro, but at this price, it was a no brainer for me.

Gonna use it for 4x4 activities

See mounts pictured here at the right hand side:
Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc-01_h3_silver_included2.jpg

These mounts should be okay for a fixed (permanent) stick on to your helmet. Beyond that you'll probably need a suction cup for the car.

For underwater, i suggest you make a simple handle yourself using one of the included mounts to attach to the camera.
