This one is from gearbest.com and quite a few people have vouched for authenticity. Alternately there are links on dashcamtalk for sources that sell genuine cameras.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Guys, need to buy a dashcam ASAP. Most of these Pune bikers ride as if their only motive is to commit suicide in front of your car. Have a budget of ~2-3k, can buy from ebay.com and get it shipped too. Any pointers? The SJ4000 looks good but is out of budget.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

I use my cell phone with a windshield mount as a makeshift dash cam. Works well for short videos.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

After doing a bit of research, found that SJ5000 is being launched for $90 on DX.

http://www.dx.com/p/amkov-sj5000-14-...2#.VBg3E_mSy-g

Started with a budget of 2k for a dashcam, this is indeed proving costly Anyone else who is planning to go for the SJ5000?

EDIT: The discussion in the boards suggest that it is not being manufactured by SJCam.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

The GoPro HERO 4 has been leaked

The 'Silver' version is essentially the current (H3+) Black, with a touchscreen LCD built in.

The H4 Black gets essentially double the frame rates of the current black. Yes, that means 4k video at 30 fps!! 1080 (full-HD) at 120 FPS!!! Only bummer is that 720p is also at 120 fps, instead of the 240 fps people were expecting.

Bluetooth also makes its way in (I'm guessing there will be a BLE remote). Battery life is also supposed to be improved.

Audio is supposed to have twice the dynamic range. A much needed improvement.

A dedicated 'settings' button replaces the side-mounted wifi button.

The camera size stays the same, so all older accessories are still supported (Phew, thank god).

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

My GoPro Hero 3+ Black edition is still with my mum who's going to hand it over to me this Diwali and Hero 4 Black is already out, bummer!

http://shop.gopro.com/cameras/hero4-...CHDHX-401.html

While its improved a lot in 4k & 2.7k recording but I think as a regular joe I can live with 1080 for another few years. 4k means more space in the memory card, higher conversion time etc. so I don't feel too bad :P

Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a 4+ version soon with some glitches fixed.

If it were Samsung who is manufacturing it I would be worried that a 4+ would be coming soon.

I got my Hero 3+ in Feb. Leg ended up in a cast in March, and no riding for three months after that.

The rains are just about to stop so I'm yet to put my Camera to its intended use, and then the HERO 4 comes

Don't sweat! My first reaction was similar but unless you were to create high-def material for commercials or something on similar lines you wouldn't miss much. 3+ Black has enough to satiate most unless 2.7k or 4k is your thing and nothing else will do.

120fps at 1080 would definitely be an added advantage for some slick slow-mo shots but nothing that Twixtor can't fix with 60fps @ 1080.

My plan (as I'm yet to get the camera) is to get thorough with editing videos, playing with all settings available (e.g. protune or not) and figuring out the right gear that I'd need eventually and then going for the updated GoPro. I reckon Hero5 might be launched till then.

Not to mention, technology these days is getting updated way too fast for someone like me to continue to splurge over the latest tech every other week/month.

Mine is a Hero 3+ Silver

As i mentioned, i am yet to put my GoPro through its intended uses. So most of what you said (Twixtor, protune) is Latin to me.
Any links to other forums where i can read up on all these?

All i have done in the past few months is a few videos on my DIY car mount.

http://goprouser.freeforums.org/

http://www.goprofanatics.com/

I've visited just these two forums a couple of times and got the answer to all my questions. And then there's always google!

I'd only caution you against buying too many accessories upfront. Instead, let your experience tell you what you need and gradually buy the mounts/accessories that'd make most sense to you.

Good plan

Don't miss this post, its worth its weight in gold when it comes to getting the most out of your gopro (specifically: which modes to use, and which to avoid)

^ Good advice! Especially since mounts are rather expensive!

Just found out that the BMW iDrive system supports the GoPro app. Quite neat!

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Now i need to buy the BMW

good find Rehaan. And i wish they also installed mounts on the bonnet and rear.

The gopro app is actually one of the best apps i have used. Even the real view EOS camera app is quite badly implemented.

There is this new Tiny FPS 1000 which looks interesting. Though the video size is so reduced at 18K fps it does look like some fun camera for like minded funthusiasts.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

I've been wanting to buy an action camera for use when I'm riding and finally have zeroed in on:

1. GoPro Hero 3 White - US $ 199.99
2. GoPro Hero - US $ 129.99
3. SJ4000 which is around US $ 100.

The SJ comes with all mounts included while for the GoPro, I'd have to buy all the mounts, etc. separately. Plus, the battery life in the GoPro is notriously poor.

I have read mixed reviews on the SJ so need guidance from the experts here. From what I've read, there are fake SJ's floating around and some units just stop working after a couple of months.

Please help to decide. I plan to make a purhase in the next couple of days.

P.S. I will not be doing any post processing of the video's.
