re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

i am very disappointed indeed. Power the same and weight gone up by 5 kgs! The pricing now just that little bit closer to the honda CBR 250. in a way i guess i should thank yamaha for making my decision regarding my next bike purchase easier. I will postpone my purchase of an upgrade to my current P220 by 6 months and use that time to save that extra cash i need to pay for a CBR 250.

What i was hoping:

Price reduction of about 5,000 Rs
Weight reduction
Power/torque increase no matter how small.

If that had been provided, i would have kept my P220 and used this R15 as a strict single seater and a weekend short tour fun bike.

The bike does look good in the above pictures.
If the company says they have tested and produced it to be an upgrade to the previous, then i guess we wait before we comment without the official TD.
I hope it performs well and my mind is put to rest.
Can't imagine Yamaha doing a mistake after a tough come back.
Its a sore that the most sporty color yellow is missing.

Hmmm I must say I'm quite disappointed with the "version 2.0". They should've stuck to their philosophy of lightweight and brilliant chassis.

Then again, it maybe a tactical decision to bring a bigger R series bike. As in, if the power to weight ratio of both would've been the same, it'd have been tricky for Yamaha.

Yeah, the Yellow colour absence surprises me! Yeah, a power bump was definitely expected. Atleast a little bit. But hey, they've given it a new exhaust, hope it brings in the desired changes.

What the hell were they testing since last 2 years then? How long does that fat tyre last or when the LED conks off?

I may be jumping the gun, but this doesn't seem any different than "all new" maruti with clear lens headlamp or "all new" HH Glamour with new stickers on fuel tank.

Yamaha!

Re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

I expected to see a lot of posts telling 'Yamaha couldn't have done this!' and such stuff.

I think everyone kept their head on the shoulders, and the best way to avoid disappointment is to keep your expectations at abysmal levels.

For one, I never expected Yamaha to bump up the power by one tiny bit. They are already extracting 17 BHP from a tiny 150cc engine, and I think they maxed out on it. (The same Yam guys used to make people sign papers not to ride the bike on road with their toolkit, which probably bumped up the ride by 2-3 BHP) - All this, while 194 BHP R1 was street legal (I don't get this at ALL). May be it was the emissions or sound of the new chamber.

The new one looks good, and as someone pointed out, even less usable. (There is almost zero chance for a decently sized pillion to hang on behind)

I am clinging on tight to my R15

I wonder where the weight is coming from? Tire and wheel are fatter but you do lose the tube. Swingarm going from steel to Al should have compensated...you would think.

To answer your questions technically:

-Fat tire has more rubber so it will last longer than thin tire.
-LEDs generally last 10-100 times longer than filament bulbs.

While peak power is the same, new ECU supposedly improves low and midrange power. The new exhaust while better still doesn't look as good as the shorty pipe on the FZ16.

Both the fat tire and the seat have been done for style. Looks like that is one of the major requirements of the potential buyer.

Congrats, have fun with the sexiest bike below 3 lacs! Is this a replacement for your P220?

That is a very good point you make. Someone in this post said something about the extra weight coming from a suspension upgrade, but i still cant see an increase of 5 kgs. Thats like a weight increase of 3.8%!!! (total weight of 130kgs of R15 1.0). And on a sports bike, that's just too much.

Congrats on your purchase buddy. Looking at your profile picture, looks like you will be jumping over to a R15 2.0 from a P220. Do keep us informed about how you find the little yamaha compared to the P220. Am also considering a similar switch/co-ownership.

Re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

Just a query-
The graphics of the blue one are bit different than the Black/Red+Silver one?
"R15" on the panel is nearer to indicator on the blue one, and in different places on the other 2 pics.

Also,
Blue bike - the screw between split seats is much more hidden than the other two pics.

Are these the same Version 2.0?

And,
Oh, the bike looks good!

Ace.

Edit: How did so many guys miss this statement!
Quote:
Another interesting aspect of the bike is the mud guard and sari guard attached to the swing arm which enhances the exterior design product value.
Epic! But, hey, Saree guard is cool! (lol)

People should have responded like:
" Oh, oh, ohh, attached to the swing arm.. Woah, that changes.. like everything!"
OR
" Can we attach it on the other side too?. "
OR
" Carbon fibrre, is it?.."

I won't be selling my P220 M. This will be a second bike, for weekend fun.

Technically yes, but as you see, my question wasn't technical. It was more about what Yamaha was testing for 2 years? More so, with those "so called" spy pics getting leaked every 15 days as if they were testing a next generation technology. If that's all they had to do, HH could have done the same job in less than 2 months (with additional fancy stickers and alloys painted florescent orange).

Re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

What was the need of this version 2.0? The R15 is just three year old and Yamaha could have continued with the current version for one more year and then launch a completely revamped R15 with much required power and displacement increase.

For the version 2.0 I just can say that this is nothing but a midlife facelift. I am not impressed.

PS - Now the Hero guys must be preparing some new graphics and stickers for the Karizma.
