Do provide your opinion as to if these are gone or I can extract some more kms on these. For reference, these have done about 24700 kms to date.
I would suggest to change those ones as micro cracks are clearly visible which in turn points to hardened rubber. It might not have the same flex and grip now. Without those cracks, the tyre would have still had some life in it. For reference, this is the road 5 on my Duke.

Yes that is another concern. Cracks are not life threatening but in this case they are on the soft compound portion and hence risky.

What would you recommend as replacement ? Im headed to a Michelin Shop to ask for a tyre check and potential replacement prices

I have only used Metzelers and Apollos other than Michellins. I had my stock metzelers changed at 7.5k while apollos have lasted me for more than 15k. Have even seen plenty of fast guys on Apollo shod RCs/Dukes on racetracks with high praises.
But I have also read raving reviews stating that TVS protorqs are even better.
I think you wouldn't go wrong with either.

I agree with TBHPian Thamps on both accounts. You should probably change the tires sooner, rather than later. 24,700 kms is excellent life from the Road 5s. Its time to move on.

Secondly, you really cant go wrong with either the Alpha H1s or the Protorqs. The Apollo tires have been around for much longer and hence you will hear more positive feedback on them from a larger segment of happy users. That said, experienced riders are singing high praises of the Protorqs which is more expensive by a few hundred rupees.

I have Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2s on Daisy, my Duke 200. The tyre is a bit old and locks up on concrete roads, even with further upgrades left for me to do on the front brakes.

I'm looking to change to Road 5, you extracting 24K+ on those tyres is definitely good news for me!

I must admit that I drive like a grandpa most of the time. And I am probably one of the few RR310 riders to use Urban mode most of the time. That might be the reason for my high mileage on the Road 5s. Normal expected life is somewhere around 20,000 kms.

Re: Motorcycle Tyres : Compared!

Picked up a set of Reise tyres for a friends Bullet 500 in size 19.
The front is a TroopR and the rear a TourR.
Rode around 100 kms and it feels good. The bike is old and so it is ridden sedately and so far the tyres feel positive.

I wanted to get a set for Interceptor, but the speed rating on them were low, so I went for MRF's. I am yet to fit them.

Assuming you bought them in Bangalore, May I know where you bought them? Also, can you tell me which MRF tyres you bought?

For the Interceptor, they are MRF Zapper Hyke tyres front and back. Got them online from ;
https://throttleandthump.com/shop/bi...-gt-650-tyres/

For Reise, it was from JC road ;

Re: Motorcycle Tyres : Compared!

I am looking for a 110/70 R17 front tyre.
I have narrowed my search to Apollo Alpha H1 and Ceat Sportrad. Both these tyres have a speed rating of W (270 kmph, much more than what I want) and seem to be softer compound based on the description.

Any real world feedback on these tyres? Alternatives are also welcome.

Re: Motorcycle Tyres : Compared!

Hi All,

My CB300R currently has the MRF Revz C1 as it's rear tyre which comes as stock. I feel the performance is inconsistent when pushed hard. Sometimes the rear keeps slipping all over the place even in peak summer afternoon. Sometimes it stays planted even in cloudy weather. Ofcourse the road roughness and other factors come into play, but I find it difficult to trust them all the time. I keep the tyre pressures to 24/24 cold for added comfort.

I've a few doubts on the Apollo Alpha H1s.
1) Does the dry and wet grip stay consistent over its lifespan?
2) If not how much approximate degradation/percentage reduction in grip can one expect towards the end of it's lifespan as compared to it's peak grip few hundred kms in it's service?
3) How long can those last if pushed hard?
4) Would they be more comfortable as compared to the aforementioned MRF ones?
5) Any unexpected behaviour which the buyers should be aware of?

Thanks!

W rated tyres for a Ducati MS V4S

I ride a MY 21 Ducati Multistrada V4S. Over 64k kilometers of bliss since November '21, and loving it more with every ride

The stock tyres are Pirelli*Scorpion*Trail*2 120/70 ZR 19 front and 170/60 ZR 17 rear. Both are factory fitted W rated tyres

I've on my third set of tyres, and only recently noticed that the replacement sets available are W only for the rear and V for the front.

My usage is mostly on decent highways, and frankly even a V rated tyre is safe enough for speeds I will never reach

Just curious why this is so: Is there any legal issue on imports of sports tyres? Are there options in Michelin or others that solve this problem?

TIA

Re: Motorcycle Tyres : Compared!

Hi everyone,

I ride a Hunter 350 mostly on Bangalore roads, infrequently on highways and very rarely off-roads. The motorcycle came fitted with Ceat Zoom XL 140/70 17 Rear and 110/70 17 Front. It is close to hitting 10k on the odo, and I have identified my gripe with the tyres. They instill fear in me when I am doing 60+kmph and I notice gravel or water on the road. I like to visit places with curvy roads and lean in when the situation presents.

Recently I did a Hogenekkal ride from Bluru, with a friend who brought his Speed 400 fitted with the Apollo Alpha H1s. When we exchanged bikes for a period, I noticed that the Speed 400 was way more grippier and it allowed me to have a blast without much worry.

Intrigued, I was looking at options from Apollo such as Alpha H1s and Trampler XRs for the Hunter. I want to know, whether Radial tyres are a good choice for the hunter. If not Radials, which other tyres would help offer substantial improvements over the stock ones. I visited a store nearby to enquire and the person there tried to sell Reise TouRs stating they were fast moving and off-road friendly. He also mentioned that Radial tyres are better suited for superbikes that are light.

I would like the forum's expert advice on which pair to choose for my Hunter 350, so that it can be ridden a bit more aggressively without worry. Thank you

I always recommend sticking to the stock tyre size regardless of the bigger tyre fitting fine. Trust the manufacturer who has decided that 140/70 and 110/70 is the best suited size and has got the alloys and everything designed accordingly.

Now coming to which tyre to buy -
Not from personal experience but I have seen every review speaking highly positive for the TVS Eurogrip Protorq Extreme. My friend has it on his Aapche RR310 and is super happy with it.
For rear, it comes in 2 sizes - 150/60 and 140/70. And front 110/70.
Total including fitting should be around 11k max.

Might be an overkill for the Hunter350, but since you spoke of Apollo Alpha H1, I assumed you are ok to spend 10-12k on the pair of tyres; hence suggested the above.

I will also be upgrading to these tyres after around 5k kms on my CBR.
