Congratulations Satish. Few questions if you don't mind:

Can we know the break-up details of the OTR? Which showroom did you go to?

Waiting period? Which color?

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 : My Motorcycle Diaries

Ex Showroom Price: 181754
Life tax 9%: 16690
Insurance (zero depreciation): 5577
On road price: 203981

The prices have gone up few days ago.
I booked my bike at VVC Automobile, Road # 3, Banjara hills. Go Green, Gachibowli is very close to my place. But their showroom, sales team put me off. They don't have any of the vehicles I requested for test ride (Thunderbird 500, Bullet standard 350/500). VVC is a lot better.

They orally mentioned 25 days as waiting period but in the order form they have put 30 - 45 days.

I have booked Marine blue. Would have liked some unique colors for 500. All the TBs on the road look the same.

I totally agree. I started reading this thread from Ravi sir and then following a few others from 25th Dec. And guess what, booked my TB on 3rd Jan.

Really thankful to all to re-ignite that spark.

Yes. All the Thunderbirds look alike. So do the Classics. Only the monogram and the absence of carburetor make the difference.

The Classics have some unique colour options for 500cc like Grey, Desert Storm and Chrome which are not available for Classic 350cc. it's not the case with Thunderbird. Thunderbird 350 & 500 have the same colour options.

Sixth Service at Sri Velavan Motors

Although Blue Bird flew less than 3 k km from the last fifth service, it's more than one-and-half years from the last service. So, I handed over the bike yesterday morning to Sri Velavan Motors, Thousand Lights, Chennai after booking in advance. Due to heavy rush and absence of mechanics, I got Blue Bird back today only. Both the engine oil and fork oil were replaced.

Now, Blue Bird is ready for yet another mega ride.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 : My Motorcycle Diaries

On Saturday [23 Jan 2016] evening, while riding towards, Vadapalani, Chennai, I noticed that both the speedometer and the odometer were not working. All others in the instrument cluster were found working. I tried in vain by adjusting, tightening, pressing various components starting from the speed sensor, the cable, the plug and the connector below the instrument cluster. First, I thought, it might be due to some water ingress during pressure-washing. Yesterday also, they didn't work. So, I took Blue Bird to Sri Velavan Motors today morning at 9 am. B Bird was attended to immediately. I was told that the cable got cut. But, the cable alone won't be available separately as it comes with the speed sensor assembly, costing ₹ 841. After my consent, they were replaced. The only consolation was, no labour charge.

Ravi sir, I am an ardent follower of your thread and greatly appreciate your passion for your Blue Bird. Just wanted to know if your bird is still in warranty period? If yes, then shouldn't the speedo cable assembly replaced under warranty?

Today, I rode to Ryder City, Lalbagh Road, opposite MTR and bought a Vega full face helmet [large size] for ₹ 1,000.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 : My Motorcycle Diaries

Looks nice Ravi Sir.

Do you have pictures of the speed sensor that was replaced?

By the way, looks like your thread is the official thread for all Thunderbird 500cc. Good Luck chief.

I did click a photo, but deleted it later. I have that old part at my Chennai home. I will click a pic and post here after 10 Feb 2016.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 : My Motorcycle Diaries

Hey Ravi -

My C5 simply would not start using the ES now. It was all working fine, when I had to travel for about a month. Some cleaner removed the bike from the covered parking and put it in the open. This was at a time when Bangalore received a lot of rains (last year). When I came back, I tried starting it - did not work. I was anyway avoiding the bike. Recently got my bike serviced and they SA told me the battery has gone weak.
I had the original battery replaced under warranty and this one is is hardly 15 months old. Any thoughts?
If I do have to replace it - can I buy any other battery? Thoroughly disappointed with Exide.

And I should probably ask it in another thread

First, get it recharged and see. If it does not last long, then replacement may be inevitable.

My son's Classic 500's OE stock Exide battery served for 3 years and 9 months. You don't have much choice in 12V 14 Ah battery. Exide is the best as of now, IMO.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 : My Motorcycle Diaries

After following this thread for quite sometime, I brought home a pre-worshipped TB500 in Marine blue colour.

Looking forward for guidance in terms of preventive maintenance I should be performing myself other than regular services. She has clocked 5300KMs so far and 17 months old now.
