Did you people get to see the bikes in person, was test drive on offer ?
What was your impression on build, fit and finish, does this look premium.
Also, mirrors are differently positioned for 42, are they functional?
Welcome if you can provide any impressions!
Thanks

I don't think anyone apart from the guys who were invited for the unveil event have seen the bike in person. The dealerships are supposed to be operational from Dec 6th and may be they will have the test drive bikes then. All the bookings happening now is based on the impressions from the unveil event.

So you are probably the first one in this thread reporting a booking of the Jawa. Rest are mainly 42 I think.
Does the booking also allow you to change colours at some point before delivery ?

Will be nice if you and other members who own old Jawas post pictures here. Thanks.

Krishna can you please update your booking details in the following thread. Interceptor bookings are ruling the roost in that thread right now .

Re: Mahindra is bringing Jawa back. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 1.55 lakh

Going by the trend here (& also with my local friends), we may find more Jawa 42 on the roads than classic Jawa. Much like, we see more RE Classic 350 on roads (they are everywhere ) than the standard Bullet.

Still a long way to go, dealer showrooms has to open, test-rides to be done & a few ownership reviews to be seen, mahindra needs to prove consistent service quality before we can declare. But so far, it's a big success, making experienced riders to book new Jawas based on pics alone.

Heard that production volume for Jawa will be lower. Will it soon turn into long waiting periods? I guess many are taking the risk of booking without seeing it in person, just to avoid the queue.

I am confused. How'd they manage to ABS a drum brake? or is it only for the front?

The Jawa and the 42 get single channel ABS only, on the front wheel.

Even I read somewhere that they were not aiming for high volumes, BUT Bullet craze was at its peak when the waiting period was in excess of 6-months, its human nature to want what we can't have easily! So waiting period could favour the Jawa from public's perspective.

I personally feel that they should make tones of bikes before starting delivery, this way people can see the bikes in flesh and might be tempted even more to book it. This was where TVS messed up with its flagship 310R, long waiting period initially, but almost no bikes on the road.

Re: Mahindra is bringing Jawa back. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 1.55 lakh

Why are people comparing the Jawa with Enfield twin cylinder bikes?
The two belong to absolutely different segments.

So, the engine comparison has to be between 300cc Jawa and 350cc Enfield.
Jawa boasts of 27 bhp but at what RPM? Similarly 28 Nm at what RPM?
Enfield is 20 bhp at 5250 RPM and 28 Nm at 4000 RPM.

The key thing to remember is that for street vehicles, having torque developed at low RPM and a flattish torque curve across the entire RPM spectrum is more important than peak bhp figure.

RE350: 70*90 = Long Stroke
Peak Torque: 4000RPM
Peak Power: 5250RPM

JAWA: 76*65 = Short Stroke
Peak Torque: 5500RPM
Peak Power: 7500~8000RPM

From the looks of it the RE350 doesn't stand a chance against the Jawa, unless the buyer has a push-rod fetish!(me..me..me!!!)

But even then I'd still consider the Jawa considering that the motor in question has gone through almost half a decade of R&D and Mahindra motorcycles having a reputation of stellar part quality.

Irrespective of how I twist and turn my emotions the Jawa seems to be the clear winner, even going by logic the Jawa would be a better bet considering that RE's have a reputation of not bearing any of the reliability benefits that is ideally expected from something so trivial that is being sold for such a premium.

Re: Mahindra is bringing Jawa back. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 1.55 lakh

I would like to state my opinion as someone who owned the TBTS 350CC until recently. The only reason I bought that bike was that the ride quality was better than most in that price range . But I was always unhappy about how RE was giving us machines that were so old, engines so far from refined and were using parts from the previous century.

My neighbor is a senior automobile design engineer who used to work for Eicher at that time spoke about how designing even the basic things and changing things like the headlights not being powered by acceleration etc. took them a long time and that even those basic things in this modern era were proclaimed as great things in their company. I was quite disappointed that only the 500CC ones got FI and their engines were (are) still air-cooled. I mean, just because something is retro, doesn't mean that it has to be using old technologies, right?

And this is exactly where the Jawa trumps RE. If I were in the market, I will take the Jawa just for the modern engine and the light weight and hopefully rot-free bike. I wish them well and hope they succeed in their effort and they give us some with v-twin too in future.

Bookings can only be cancelled and no option to change colour/ bike is available at present. Booking amount per se is fully refundable as per news reports.

Re: Mahindra is bringing Jawa back. EDIT: Launched @ Rs 1.55 lakh

Hi All, Booked a jawa 42 in Nebula Blue on 19th of November....a friend of mine was present for the launch and as per him the build quality is ok though he couldnt secure a test drive. Yes the production volumes are kept minimal initially and as per his contact for my booking made on 19th of november the delivery may be sometime in March-April next year.

Thanks & regards,
Jay
