Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSFi Digital Test Ride

Well i went for a test ride of the 220, so before i start i must tell you one thing the bike is AWESOME

The bike looks very very good.

On my test ride i was told not to exceed 60kmph as the roller bench gets spoilled but believe you me i did 100 before the salesman could say anything and thats just shows what acceleration this beast has.

All new pulsars have 4 down and 1 up pattern.

The bike is 20PS, Oil cooled, FI, with Exhaustec.

It has self cancelling indicators. The projector headlamps work amazingly well, i tried them and they did their job excellently.

Quality is far superior then other Pulsars. The FI system works well.

FE expected is 40kpml.

Ride, handling and braking i didnot get to test but heard its good.

Now for the part you all are waiting for performance, its a hooligan. Slotted it into first and a twist in the arm and the way she acclerates is better felt then told. Once it crosses 4000RPM it goes mad absoltuly, the noise i love it, some might not but people buying such bikes would be my kind noise loving, the noise from the engine i mean

Now my test ride was not limited to flat out acceleration i put the bike in 4th gear at 2000RPM and then twisted the throttle to the max, the bike immediately responded with no hesistation and just picked up. Performance of the bike is very very good indeed. In fact the bike goes all the way upto almost a shade below 11000RPM when a red light blinks and reminds you to upshift.

On starting the bike on ignition the tacho needle goes all the way upto 12000RPM and comes down, thats a system check ala Bajaj style.

Considering the FI costs 87k as compared to 90k for the Karizma the Bajaj bike is surely the better one, not that Karizma is bad, HH needs to give it FI and a few other touches.

Would i like to buy one - Hell Yes with 200DTSi wheels which are a direct fit on the 220.

Well done Bajaj

HH dealer told me they are going to launch 350cc FI after 1.5years cause the current Karizma sells well and a FI Karizma would costs 1.1 Lacs and wont sell as the current passion FI which costs 8k more then the carb version doesnot have much takers.

The New Karizma i checked out had nothing but new graphics and the engine has been retuned to extract 18.5bhp now

HH site says Karizma R develops 17 ps @ 7000 rpm. which means 16.7 bhp.

A whole 3ps less that the p220 DTS-Fi

Website maynot be updated but HH have upgraded the power to 18.5 or 18 bhp or so as per the dealer.

He even said that if they remove high end bikes it would not sell and they would be out of business like Fiat

I guess the dealer is making figures on his own.

The site is very much updated from the old ZMA site to the ZMA 'R' site.

By the way, 16.7 bhp is too less comparing P180 DTSi makes 16.5bhp, while P200 DTSi makes 17.75 bhp.
