The car gives around 18 kmpl on highways if driven sedately at 80-90 kph. It increases if driven in Eco mode and also running AC on ECON mode to around 20 kmpl. In the cify, it drops to to 12-15kmpl depending on traffic conditions(10-12 in B2B traffic).

+1 to coldice4u's comment on low end torque and city driveability. I am especially impressed by it being a novice driver as the car does not stall easily.

Few queries. I have completed 65K kms and planning for a tyre change.

1. How long does the stock tyre (Bridgestone) last ? Are they due for change in 65K kms. Today I had the first puncture and it seems that they are wearing out, but I am not sure.

2. Should I go with Bridgestone or other brand? Please suggest.

Indeed it is. Recently completed a 400km trip. Out of it, the condition of road for aroond 100-125km was without any road. Basically, the existing road has been dug for preparation of a highway. No one complained about comfort, including my 3.5 year old daughter. Pretty happy with the car.

My car is running on Earth-1's 185/60 R15(diesel XMS), they are hard compound and low on comfort compared to stock bridgestone B250. If comfort & budget is a priority any among MRF Zlx, Conticomfort CC5 or Falken SN835 should be good.

I just did a family trip from Ahmedabad to Nashik and back.

Total distance: 1,252 kms
Fuel used 65.45 Liters (tank full method)
Average: 19.12 kms / Liter

We were 4 adults + luggage and the AC was on 100% of the time. I was also in ECO mode 100% of the time and averaging between 80-100 on the highways where possible.

Since we left Ahmedabad and Nashik (on the return leg) at 04:00 AM the roads were pretty empty and we were able to cover the distance of 553Km each way (via Pimpalner - details in the Travelogues > Route / Travel Queries section) in 9 hours including a stop for Breakfast.

Pretty happy with the performance of the 4 year old car .

I had a couple of queries though:

1. The engine temperature was almost always at 1 bar on the highway, but used to shoot up to 3 bars in slow moving traffic within the city - is this normal?

2. The average fuel efficiency according to the trip meter was 16.1 kms / liter as against the 19.12 liters by the tank full method. I thought the trip meter usually showed slightly more than what one got by the tank full method. Any ideas on the possible reasons for this variation?

Both the 1st and last "tank full" were at the same petrol pump where i normally fill up and petrol was filled till the auto-cut off rounded up to the next 10 rupees.

How is the tread? Normally they should last for atleast 80,000 km but that depends on wheel alignment and rotation.

I am still running OEM tyres, at 93,000 km. Should last for another 5,000 kms.

My Right Projector lamp has conked off, so now driving around with a single low beam.

While I am changing this lamp, I was wondering if I can upgrade it rather than getting the stock one.

Has anyone here upgraded their Headlamps and what are the options available?

Any help will be appreciated

I have been using a HID kit with 42W bulbs and 4500K colour for the last two years and am very happy with them.

Since the Zest bulbs are housed in a projector, the glare to oncoming traffic is well controlled and infact the beam is a neat line at around the height of the bonnet.

I find the brightness and throw much better than Phillips X-treme and Osram Night breakers, both of which did not last too long in my case.

Thank You, it helps. I assume the 4500 would have stock light yellow colour. I do not really like the white lamps, Neither on my car nor oncoming.

What brand & model bulbs are you using though ? I didn't get that.

I got mine from a site called uglare.com
The guys very really helpful and responded to all my queries and yes they are very close to stock yellow colour.

Dear All,

I am new here and this is my first post. Really happy to be part of Team BHP.

We are in the process of buying 2 to 3 cars in our family. Zest is one of them.

I want to buy used one and have chosen XT Diesel or as compromise XMS Diesel. One factor, which is worrying, is spare parts availability after Tata stops the production. Already Bolt is stopped and i am not sure about Zest.

So, my questions are

1. Would you recommend as used car? I would like to use for atleast another 6 to 7 years.
2. I have not found anything online less than 50000 kms on odo. Is it advisable to buy XT diesel with 90000 km on odo as used one? What expenditure should i expect?
3. By reading the forum, efficiency is not bad for petrol version. I may buy petrol as well if everything else matches. Is this engine used in any other model or will it be stopped sooner or later?

The Zest (or any car on X1 platform) is a robust car & can be maintained quite easily. Don't worry about the spares. They are all shared across Vista-Manza-Zest-Bolt & some even with Nexon! They'll be available for a long time. Just look at the sheer number of cabs on the road which need to remain road worthy .
However - if you are looking at keeping the car for another 6 to 7 years - buying a car that already has 90k kms on the odo might not be the smartest thing to do IMO. Anything around 50k should be okay I'd say. For such long duration ownership, why not a new Zest? You will get superb deals right now on the Zest infact. It will be worth the money.

I suggest you go with Zest diesel. Don't go for the 1.2 Revotron. Its a wonderful engine no doubt but absolutely no other car uses this one & so spare availability on it will be a problem in long run potentially. The Quadrajet75/90 on the other hand is running in millions of cars on the road literally & maintenance is 0 issue.

This looks like a non issue to me actually. Its superficial rust and happens in almost all cars in one place or the other. Most are at bolts or drill holes. Thats fine. Just spray some WD40 on it and polish a bit with a rough cloth. Thats enough. I had this in my car in 2-3 years & then it stayed exactly that way for another 6 years without any change. So .
And no - warranty will not cover this as it comes under weather / normal usage related damage still. Its not a part failure to be covered under warranty.
