Thanks buddy! So this issue doesn't show up on their diagnostics? How was it done in your Vista?

My FNG knew it was a recurring issue. I did replace one of the coils a couple of years ago. When the second one went kaput, he asked me to ignore it. Never caused trouble in a year's time.

Did you get the fuel pump changed or got it repaired? Can you share the cost? It will be good to know if it happens with any of us.

Replaced both the times. I don't think so that it can be repaired(at least as per Tata service personals).

Re: Tata Zest : Official Review

Duplicate post with Team Bhp (Automotive air conditioner servicing & maintenance)

Car : TATA Zest XMS MJD 90ps / 2015 / 47K

Symptoms : No A/C effect and small noise is heard if A/C is on.

Diagnosis by TATA A.S.S : Cooling coil need to be replaced. Estimate Around 17,000.

Diagnosis and estimate by Independent mechanic : Pending

Car was serviced just 2 days back, no issues before service.

All four tyres were replaced after service, and wheel alignment / balancing done outside.

Will update here once Diagnosis and estimate by Independent mechanic is done.

Is there any possibility that problem happened due to service?

Any other owner faced similar issue?

By chance did your service list contain anything to do with AC cleaning / overhaul etc? If yes - I very much suspect they managed to leak the refrigerant accidentally while fiddling with the system. Its best to get it checked from outside & just recharge the gas once. Replacing the coil without confirming there is a leak won't be the right solution. (Of course the estimate that A-S-S has given to you is also for the worst case, they may just eventually say that a recharge was enough.)

First of all - check that the compressor relay TICK-TACK happens when you press the AC button on the dashboard. Then check the cooling control knob is on the "COOL" side sufficiently & has not been inadvertently turned to the center / HOT positions. Check where the air-flow is directed. In case they have accidentally changed it to demister positions, all the air will be blown towards the windshield.

If all this is in order - get the quote from the FNG, with focus on just recharging the gas once. Try how it goes. If the cooling reduces - there is a leak in the system / plumbing somewhere that will have to be found out.

Re: Tata Zest : Official Review

Hello all,

My Zest diesel has some electrical issues. A few functions aren't working
  • remote lock unlock
  • music systrm
  • reverse parking sensors
  • music system display
  • air con controls (AC is on by default)

The car starts and runs just fine. I showed it to a fng first (Carsmith Motors) who redirected me to Tata service center as they weren't able to scan any error codes.

TASS (KHT Motors, Whitefield) just came back to me after their preliminary investigations. They want to replace the whole music system assembly, costing 45,000 plus. I am not sure if replacement is the only way. Can it be repaired?

I am not sure what options do I have. Any Tata specialist FNG suggestions (in Bengaluru) are most welcome.

I got the car back from TASS without any repairs being done and after paying the inspection amount. Spoke to the technician there and he said that the fuse kept blowing off multiple times implying that something is wrong with the Head Unit. However, since the time I returned from TASS, remote lock/unlock and AC start stop is working.

I am thinking of the below possible options, in the order of preference:
  1. Find a reliable FNG with expertise in diagnosing TATA electrical or electronics issues
  2. Replace the head unit with a compatible system. However, the new system must be fully Zest compatible and have Android Auto + Apple Car Play
  3. Leave the HU as it is and run the car without music and reverse parking sensors
  4. Replace the HU @50k approx

BTW, the variant is XT, I forgot to mention it earlier.

Try to get a proper diagnosis before deciding on anything.

You can check the wiring diagram to see what's common in these systems. Basically, narrow down to the fuses that are 'blowing'. From there you can try to isolate the suspects. If there are any new aftermarket fitments - you should check them first.

Also, have a good look at the wires in engine or footwells for any signs of rodent action.

Thanks for the suggestions Dry Ice.

Unfortunately, the circuit diagram will probably be like Latin or Greek to me. Considering my lack of competence with anything having wires , I am searching for a reliable electrical/electronics repairing place. I have found one in T BHP directory and will probably try it out the coming weekend.

I also asked the TASS technician and checked myself (as much as I could) - there doesn't seem to be any rodent problem.

However, since the AC controls and remote lock unlock have started working after their diagnostic - I suspect some lose wiring may be at play. That is my primary line of thought currently and I will try to confirm the same at the FNG in coming days.

If that doesn't pan out, then the second option is to get a decent aftermarket HU.

There are after market head units available which are fully compatible with Tata Zest XT. I had a contact in Delhi but somehow misplaced his number. In all, a third party solution is very much possible in lesser amount.

As for TASS, their only solution to anything wrong with Music system is to update software and then replace the whole unit which is very frustrating.
Not sure what other manufacturers do for their cars.

Any pointers to a reliable FNG in Gurgaon would be appreciated. TIA
You can try GoMechanics. Their yearly servicing cost for Tata Zest Petrol is ~4200. Though, have never used their services myself yet.

I wonder with the ever increasing electronics in cars, are we heading towards a maintenance nightmare? I jokingly asked the TASS SA if Zest HU is 50k, then Altroz's must be touching 1L. He only smiled in reply.

Hi, boodmo is quoting about Rs.27k for Zest Head unit (link). Why don't you check with Prerna or Kropex about its cost?
50k seems steep for the head unit.

I checked the link and think that the product is the HU used in XM and XMS (without touch screen), hence the price difference. In fact, there are multiple such options.

I will try to find out more about the exact HU model and check the prices. Thanks for sharing !!!
