Thank you very much for the amazing review. I am in the market for an automatic car which can occasionally carry 7 people. This was real helpful. Working out my finances. Once everything is settled, I'll keep the forum updated.

A glimpse on the niggles you have faced so far which will help in suggesting a suitable alternative.

I have recently got home a pre-owned W10, manual. There are rattles, no doubt. MASS is equally adept at solving those.

I still feel XUV is a VFM package, when comparing to the steeply priced Crysta. Especially considering the sweet engine and the power available.

Only if you are looking for a Crsyta with the captain seats does it make sense to move away from the XUV you have. If taken care of properly, the XUV can easily do duty for another 6-7 years (considering your yearly average is just 10K km).

Typical niggles I have faced are mostly rattling from the doors, dashboard, vanity mirror, storage behind the gear handle etc. I also faced minor issues of alignment of the headlights, clogging of AC air filter in 10K itself etc.
I also find the under thigh support in driver seat is a bit less for my height (I am 6'2"). As i said earlier, nothing major just minor niggles. I have had an Innova earlier so no plans of buying Innova again, it's a great vehicle but I just don't want to repeat the same car.
I think I will just keep this XUV for a few more years considering that my running isn't really too much. I just need to find a way to increase the under thigh support as it really bothers me in city traffic and hurts my knee. Any suggestions on that are really welcome.
Overall its indeed a VFM product from Mahindra and considering Crysta prices it looks even better so I guess I will stick to it for some more time till I find a worth replacement in the next few years.

Its a great vehicle so keep it and enjoy. As for knee, try and make a custom cushion to place under your thigh and then put seat cover on it to make it stable. Just a thought

I own a XUV5OO W8 2013 and enjoy every bit of the same. But, recently thought of looking at alternatives and had a look at Crysta along with my daughter who has a great sense of things. She sat in the captain seats and came out and said, NO. Her definition was - XUV middle row is much spacious and the bench in XUV makes her sit in whatever shape and form, resting her legs on the seat, tilting, leaning on the doors with a pillow etc., (she is 5'5"). While I agree, the captain seats will be much more like bus with push back, i also felt XUV bench was much more comfortable if we tilt it a little bit. Further the arm rest in Crysta Captain seats are thinly padded and at a higher level which does not offer any great comfort.

Also, her perception of the last row (crysta Vs XUV) does not have any major difference. She was neither comfortable in a Crysta nor in a XUV. I thought of sharing this because we felt there is not that much superior comfort in the Crysta Seats, as being perceived by people vis-a-vis an XUV. Just our opinion though.

re: Mahindra XUV500 Diesel Automatic : Official Review

Been driving my new companion W6 Automatic and completed roughly around 600 kms. This is what I found as a new owner.

Cons:

Minor Rattles here and there but nothing of major concern

Rough edges as compared to competitors

Gets bouncy at slower speeds

Pros:

Space space and more space in 1st 2 rows.

W6 is very well equipped and still trying to figure out the features after a month of ownership.

Excellent to drive in traffic and on highways

10+ fuel economy in run-in period

Road presence

Family members are extremely comfortable and never complain

Snob value

re: Mahindra XUV500 Diesel Automatic : Official Review

Is there anything that lets me distinguish an W10 AWD AT from the non-AWD version. Say for example does the VIN decode help here ? (or) are there any additional electronic wizardry in the cabin that will help me ensure its an AWD model. This is to ensure the dealers don't pull a fast one on the buyer. Also any specific recommendations for a dealership in Bangalore along with suggestions on discounts I can expect will be much appreciated.

I am planning to replace my 5 year old Vento TDI with an D segment vehicle. Current short lists are the Crysta 2.8 ZX AT, XUV 500 AWD AT (its the AWD thats luring me) & the Elantra SX(O) Petrol AT if it has to be a sedan - (the wife is biased towards sedan options). Also the fact that my Vento TDI so far has been a niggle free companion with the exception of the infamous rear suspension thud, makes me wonder if I should take the plunge now or wait for some time.

Couple of things you can look for:
1) There will be a AWD Sticker at the Back
2) There will be an AWD Lock Button on the dash only for the AWD version
3) If you look under the rear of the car, you should see a prop shaft and rear differential. The 2WD dosn't have this.

Can't comment on the Elantra. However, between the Crysta 2.8 ZX AT and the XUV500 AWD AT, I would pic the XUV500 only for the AWD+AT combination. Otherwise for almost the same price the Crysta 2.8 ZX AT is the way to go. I have the Crysta 2.8 ZX AT and it is a comfortable and powerful highway cruiser.

Sounds logical to retain XUV, under the circumstances. Thigh support is indeed at a premium and custom options are near to zero especially considering the leather seats. I have decided to live with it and drive with the seats pushed back (as far as possible).

She has a valid point. The difference however is very evident for the elderly & motion-sick w.r.t the captain seats; the side bolsters help to make the journey less painful

Any reason why you wish to move to XUV/ Crysta/ MUV? The ride quality, weight to power ratio & creature comforts in a Vento TDI are better than both XUV & Crysta, IMO.

.....
Been going through the posts on XUV & Creta for the past 6 months as l like to know well the car l would purchase. My earlier rides were Scorpio Crde, 4 years 1.5 L Kms, Scorpio VLX Mhwak, 4x4, 7 years, 1.25 L Kms. Sold my Scorpio last week, l have a MM 550, 4x4 & Eon 1ltr for wife. My experience with M&M has been great, touch wood!

Been researching, TDing all AT cars ( left knee screams on & off) Shortlisted to Creta AT & Xuv AT W9, I'm a good judge of cars, machines & ppl, modesty is not one of my virtues

Bought a new XUV W9 AT, last week have done 800 kms on it. Still researching on it, the Aisan Auto box & features, getting to know it, it's the honeymoon period

What l love...
1.The Aisin box is one of the best in lndia now, in that price range & features bracket.
2.2nd row space, one of the best.
3. Features... NO OTHER CAR has them, in this price point. Do you need so many? Do they have utility value? Individual perceptions very, l love them, will use most of them. Will they fail? Sure.. Some of them will! It did on my Mhwak, all solvable, livable & frustratable
4. GC: Can go off the road ( not off roading) in traffic.
5. Smootger than Scorpio, no rolling & bucking.
5. Better insulated than Scorpio.
4. Road presence & snob value, fills the car park & throws a long shadow into my neighbours porch.
My comparision with Scorpio is inevitable, had it for 11 years....but have driven all other SUV's in my time & done off roading with them too.

What l wish l had:
1. Visibility like a Scorpio.
2. All W10 electronic features. Some of the features, they have taken off are idiotic & cranky.. That's the Mktg department of M&M! They take pot on & off, is my guess.
3. A little boot space.

About your question, l would hold on to XUV for a long time. Considering the depreciation loss & acquisition cost of new vehicle, hold on.. With spare money, change interiors & make it Maharaja style, plonk in great ICE & spend on professional dampening of all all doors & behind dash too, invest in heavy floor matting.

Valid point. I am also considering putting a Racedynamics box to boost the power and make it quicker. Not that it is low on power but more power is welcome, especially in the first 2-3 gears in city driving. If anyone is using a Racedynamics power box in XUV 5OO AT then pl do share your experience. Thanks

I Started using it just post my 2nd free service (5K). I feel the overall Engine noise (especially 1st gear) has gone down. Power-wise, I havent pushed it yet, but XUV never had dearth of that IMO.

I have used the ECU in my prior MT for 50K KM. Drivability and Engine hum were on of the best.

Re: Mahindra XUV500 Diesel Automatic : Official Review

I am using Petes tuning box. There is a healthy bump in power but a few problems.
1. If you push the engine e too hard the check engine light comes and the engine goes into limp mode. You have to wait a few minutes and switch off the engine and then the light goes away.
2. The gearbox does not slot into a gear and remains on the fluid clutch when pushed too hard.
3. Fuel economy is just 7to 8 kmpl in city and 11 on highway

Re: Mahindra XUV500 Diesel Automatic : Official Review

I am killing myself for no reason on which car I should upgrade to. I have a Sumo Gold GX 2015 model that has run about 50k. It is perfectly fine and does the job amazingly for m but there is an itch to upgrade that I simply cannot shake off as hard as I try. I can easily keep it for another year at a minimum but I am also wary of the extended warranty expiring and the depreciation being even worse.

I really want to get a Safari Storme VX 400 NM 2 WD but the W7 XUV is simply irresistible as a proposition. I hope I don't end up buying a Verna simply because its so much more bang for buck. I know different segments et all but car buying is a tougher decision for enthusiasts than it is for people who aren't really that into cars. Who would have thought!

Steps to control your "itching to buy a new car"

1. Stop coming at TBHP for about 6 months. A tough challenge, I know!
2. Run your Sumo for another year or 18 months
3. Get the new Safari [H5X or H7X].

Good luck!
Prem.
