I am planning to buy XUV W8 AT in Aug. could you please help me usually what are the offers members got from dealers on the quoted price and any freebies which were doled out.
Also, does it make sense to get alloy for the fifth tire. My view is that if 5th tire also has alloy then if one of the four tires get punctured, you can use the 5th one and use it as regular tire or else if its normal rim it looks ugly and you just use it for temporary purpose.

Also, does W 10 AT AWD makes a good option in XUV 500. I have seen lots points on AWD discussion but not sure if it will add value in XUV 500 At models.

First of all thanks to Tushar, SDP, GTO and all others this wonderful review and following post. Team BHP is really the best
After many deliberation I booked W10 AT FWD. The reason for going to all the way to W10 variant was

• New Start/Stop Button
• Key less Entry
• Reverse Camera

What I understood from dealer was while it is possible to install reverse camera in W6 & W8 Manual it is not yet possible on Automatic. This might change in coming months as M&M has introduced Start/Stop in AT, which was missing few months back.
I am thinking to add these accessories at the time of delivery

• Rear Guard for XUV 5OO
• XUV 500 Side Step PREMIUM
• Body Side Moulding
• Rain Visors

For paint protection and under body coating was thinking to get directly from 3M.
Looking for your suggestion on Video headrest for back seat please
According to M&M 9" is around 24K & 7" for 18K but not sure about their resolution and other details.

Thanks to a detailed review by XUV AT, I had earlier decided to buy this beast. Finally got delivery of the vehicle on 12th July (Crimson Purple), 1.99L W10 AT. So far, really impressed with the features. So easy to drive.. The break up is as follows in Gurgaon:

zero dep Insurance: Rs. 49200
Registration and road tax: Rs. 139943
HSRP : Rs. 500
Tax Collected at Source at 1% : Rs.17322 (I guess this I can claim back while filing returns)
Anti rust coating and teflon coat: Rs. 7000
Side foot rest : Rs.9000
Body moulding : Rs. 1500
Map my India vehicle Tracker: Rs. 10000 (with subscription for 1 year)
4th and 5th year warranty extension: Rs. 22500

Total: Rs. 19.9 lacs

The dealer gave me Mats and rear Bull Guard as complements.

This is my first Mahindra Vehicle and upgrading from a most loved 11-year old Ford Fusion+. Hope to enjoy the ownership for years to come..

Not sure but it would be a tough job to get the passive keyless entry system retrofitted in older AT variants.

Also it would be heavy on pocket for getting this done. Not worth and recommended.

The MMI headrest monitors are good in few aspects
a) the screen resolution is decent
b) the inbuilt sound is quite good though I prefer to have the kids watch with headphones so that we can continue to listen to the XUV stereo system.
c) fits well aesthetically with overall beige theme of the vehicle.

Coming to your main query about formats, unfortunately it does not play all formats like mp4. I convert the movie files to divx format to play them on the unit.

Overall I m happy with the unit as it really keeps the kids happy and engaged during the long trips.

Finally settled for Opulent Purple with orange being the other contender.
Delivery is expected in 2-3 weeks.

XUV AUTOMATIC 1.99 (NCR VERSION) W10 TEST RIDE AND IMPRESSIONS:

The supreme court and NGT interventions and rulings in NCR have been a double whammy for me. I have a Mahindra Scorpio 2.6 CRDE that is nearing 9 years that will now need to retire soon. Its done 1.4 lac kms and since it is in good condition I wanted to squeeze out another 20k kms from it. The NGT doesnt agree with my plans.

The replacement I had been looking for was an XUV Automatic and had patiently followed its launch. The powers to be dont agree with plans again and ban sale of new vehicles over 2000cc! Thankfully Anand Mahindra comes to rescue and launches a 1.99 engine option and follows it up by adding the Aisin auto box to it.

Brilliant! I think. Well, not quite.

My wife and I test drove a brand new 1.99 W10 Auto today. To give the context we both just did a Delhi> Mcleodganj>Delhi trip a few weeks aho in a family XUV (old gen) which i drove for 90% of the time through rain storms, highways, hills and she was on the front passenger seats. I was thoroughly impressed with the older manual version. I have been driving a 2.6 crde LX for the last 9 years so the benchmark of refinement, tech and comfort for me in an SUV are not very high. Here are the impressions from out test drive:

1. The refinement levels of the engine seems to have gone down a new notches and the Noise within the cabin was dissapointing. I'm not sure if its the new 1.99 engine or the autobox combination, the SUV just did not show the levels that our older gen manual XUV shows. The test ride car had only done 1400kms. The engine sounded crude almost bordering my scorpios crde engine.

2. The Aisin Autobox works very well and the gear changes while slow are by no means a drag. Gear selection by the autobox on both the highway and stop/go traffic was spot on. Manual mode will take some time getting used to is useful to have. Most ppl will prefer the D mode. There was a slight dealy from the time i Flicked the switch to the actual gear change. The pedal to the metal treatment resulted in a quick downshift and linear but quick deliver of torque. But the resultant chaos from under the hood and the crude noise and growl put me off. Ive owned a jeep before; we have a scorpio and the tata indigo DiCor that I drive regularly and I can assure you It takes a lot of crudeness for me to be put off by a diesel engine. My wife too pointed out how crude the car sounded compared to the older gen we drove in (a w4).

3. Fit and finish was top notch. The infotainment, leather seats, sun roof etc make it an attractive package. The reverse parking guidelines were brilliantly accurate.

4. The all 4 disc brake setup is super sharp, albeit abrupt. Both my wife and i had this same observation.

My wife found it comfortable to drive but she did mention she found all the tech and features overwhelming. Takes time getting used to I guess.

The response from Concept Mahindra in Delhi was below average. Made us wait for for 4 hours before the test drive car turned up at our house.

Overall, my view remains that the XUV is a vastly superior product compared to the Scorpio for most city dwellers like me whose usage is for office commute, family long trips and some visits to the village and farm which need soft roading. Unfortunately, the gadgets and tech, 40k discount, auto box convenience, and better handling could not make up for the crude engine feel and poor cabin noise. I will drive the new 2.2 soon to determine if its an issue with the autobox engine combination or just the 1.99 engine.

The final nail in the coffin was that this 1.99 engine is not offered with an AWD variant.

The search continues.....

Surprised by your observations about the engine sounding crude. Yes, the automatic is more 'buzzy' than the manual and there is a constant drone filtering in the cabin, especially at standstill, but I wouldn't really call the engine sound crude.

Of course, I drove the 2.2L Automatic and not the 1.99L, but the change in engine displacement is so minor that I am not expecting a major difference in the engine's characteristics.

How about this: check out the 1.99L Automatic from another dealer. That way you can rule out a TD-vehicle specific issue.

I own a XUV w10 AT and having previously owned a previous gen W8, i agree that the sound levels inside the cabin are more in the AT but i would not call it crude at all.. Infact after some time you start to like at if i may say. I agree with the suggestion to take a test drive from another dealer
