Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Here is a super video about the two Jeep guys who went against the corporate grain and created the Rubicon as a ‘skunkworks’ project. They are effectively the equivalent of our own Mr Behram Dhabhar of Mahindra, without whom we would not have the Thar and without whom the path to the new Thar would not even have been conceived, let alone paved the way it has been.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Hi All,

Last week took the delivery of my mid January 23 build Red P AT CT with Cross Driver tyres. The tyres are silent. I have not had the time to explore it and drive. I find there is a flapping noise at 60-80 speed but I am not complaining.
I knew and bought it only for its looks and weekly errands. As of now I am not planning any modifications may be after about six months but looking for rear arm rests and floor mats at the earliest.

regards

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Hi, with all the talks about suspension for the Thar, can any one share reviews, I am contemplating between the AVO, ARC and the Ironman. ARC being the cheapest, but I haven't seen any reviews for the ARC one's. Can anyone using this kindly throw some light on it. Thanks.

Checkout the YouTube channel of DCV Expeditions. He has put ARC suspension in his Thar and has been doing regular Himalayan expeditions in various weather conditions with those suspensions and shared his observations in different videos.

He has even tried different combinations like replacing all four suspensions with ARC, then only used the ARC at front and kept the rears as stock, and now having the ARC struts at all four sides and seems to be having better composed ride quality on highways in his fully loaded Thar.

His channel is full of knowledge about not only the Thar, but Gurkha as well which he kept for short period of time in between. He has done lot of experiments with those vehicles to make them suitable for his needs and documented those experiments in his videos.

I am not affiliated with him by any mean, just accidentally ended up on his channel and watched lot of his well documented videos since then.

Any features updated apart from bugs fix?

Your Thar already had the DEF level in MID from factory ?

DEF level indicator only comes in the new Diesel Thars and is redundant in the Petrol Thars.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Can anyone confirm the following (in true/false manner)?

1. First lot 2nd Gen Thar (LX variant) had BLD in front only + MLD in rear axle (no BLD in rear)
2. The current lot has only BLD in front + optional MLD for rear axle (no BLD in rear)
3. The current lot has BLD in both front and rear.

I'm attaching the concerned part of 2021 Brochure of Thar when I bought mine. It may help answer Q1

At long last, brought her to our life and home couple of days back 😊. It's a diesel AT. Just clocked 250 kms and set for a 500 km drive over the weekend.

Point no. 3 and 5 (as mentioned in the brochure) clubbed together raises the question of how BLD and MLD work simultaneously in the rear axle. MLD will kick in as soon as it senses a 100 rpm difference, and after 3 seconds of tapping on the gas pedal, BLD comes into play. Won't they be in conflict with each other to serve the same purpose? Just curious to revamp my understanding.

Edit: Quoting the post by another bhpian, which leads to more confusion w.r.t the brochure.

Experts - please comment.

Edit: this kind of terrain warrants lockable rear diff. Wish the Thar had one.

2. The current lot has only BLD in front + optional MLD for rear axle (no BLD in rear). Again, BLD in Front and Rear.
3. The current lot has BLD in both front and rear. TRUE

That said, BLD as a technology is beautiful. It is one of the few features that can only come from an OEM, cannot be replicated easily and helps a ton. Makes newbie drivers look like experts.

Would you please throw more lights on the actuation sequence detail of BLD and MLD in rear when situation demands? In which manner M&M programmed it in the control module? Is this why BLD kick-in time is longish 3 seconds so that MLD gets precedence?

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Dear All -

Can someone please confirm if the 285/60/R18 can be directly swapped with the stock tyres or anything needs to be taken care off, any cons if there be for this upgrade, would be thankful if called out here.

Another one, if anyone may help, do the Maxxis have the same coding mechanism as we have for other brands, as in, 2 digits for week, followed by 2 for the year, if they have a different way of identification, would be thankful if someone may enlighten.

Thanks much.

Since BLD is software gimmickry, it will always take precedence over the mechanical MLD. Possible scenarios in which BLD will "give up" (and hand things over to MLD) - when brakes overheat due to repeated application of BLD or sensor failure.

I am reliably informed that 285/60/18 will rub against the stabiliser bar and/ or fenders when on full steering lock. The better recommended size is 265/60/18.
