You can refer to my post of Jan 17, 2023. It has all details with photos.

There is a security alarm in Thar. If any of your door is not properly closed and you try to lock the car with remote key lock button, it will sound a loud alarm.

It may not be the watered down feature we wanted instead of full security alarm suite, however Mahindra is technically right here mentioning that.

Is it worth spending 40k on this as an additional fitment?
MLD needs the tractionless wheel to spin faster by 100RPM than the other wheel for the centrifugal weight to be thrown out and the ramp engaged which compress the clutch pack locking both half axle shafts. BLD will not allow the wheel speed difference for the MLD to engage unless that is programmed in the vehicle traction control system to work with MLD's RPM difference requirement.

This was expected since its a plate clutch based locker. Does Mahindra or Eaton India sell rebuild kit for the MLD?

The siren altering you when a door is opened while locking the vehicle is not (even in Mahindra parlance) security alarm. And that's why they have removed any mention of security alarm from the current brochure, website and other collaterals.

This thread has the whole story - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techn...tem-alarm.html (Shockingly, the Mahindra Thar doesn't have a security system / alarm)

For making your own tracks sort of off-roading, I'll recommended the ARKA underbody kit, which is an Aluminium shield, and it's ++ is in addition to lower weight than steel, it also covers the fuel tank. Last I checked, other brands' underbody protection kirs needed a separate fuel tank shield.
Hi folks
I have a query. I am convinced to fit underbody protection plates in my Thar 4x4 D AT.

As per fellow BHPians recommendations, I decided to go with ARKA, I just want to know what is the approximate weight of these plates ( not available in any local accessories shop around me ). The only option for me is to order from ARKA Coimbatore.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

So here is her first sighting at the dealer yard . I did a PDI few days back and now waiting for delivery, which is mid of next week. And this is my first new buy of a full blown 4*4. It's a LX - D AT HT. Looking forward to exhilarating days!

Since it's largely a plug and play, I'm hoping to fit it at dealer level in case it doesn't come fitted from factory.

Does anyone have more information whether it's still available with D AT? Thanks
The air of confusion around MLD has been cleared as my Thar is equipped with a factory MLD. Thanks to the post of trends2day. It's been deleted from petrol Thars and now made optional with diesels. The website mentions the same. I'm assuming that since my booking was made in 2021(when MLD was a standard equipment), they honoured the same. But still no formal communication to dealers yet to check with new customers if they want to opt for MLD, while they book a diesel Thar.

Here is the Arka underbody armour.
The Bangalore Mahindra Adventure chaps fitted it for me in mid-2021. This is a good product and inspires confidence. It weighs about 22 kgs I think.

Yup - and it doesn't require a separate fuel tank guard (few other protection shields need that).

If it's a Diesel, get the DEF tank protection too, adds another 5KG. But worth the peace of mind...

Congratulations!!! Whats the date of manufacture written on the MLD part sticker? VIN would show just the month, however part sticker on rear axle would show date of assembly of vehicle.

I was confused as Airway Bill is showing weight of 45 Kg and they charged me accordingly for shipment.

On your ++ review I got the confidence of going for ARKA. Can I fit it myself (DIY) as ARKA is offering online support for installation.

I ordered the DEF tank protection too. I am going to install the stuff next weekend.

You are welcome

This may suggest that all Jan 2023 manufactured Diesel LX Thars may still be coming with MLD by default.

Checking this sticker is still the sure shot way so far to know if your car has MLD or not in all these confusion from mahindra website & clueless dealerships.

Re: Mahindra Thar : Official Review

Renewing acquaintance with my Thar today after a week and specifically after driving 1000kms over the 4 days long weekend last week across varied terrain across Bangalore, Mysore and Nilgiris in my Gypsy.

Incidentally the previous weekend before R Day, I had also taken the Thar up to the Nilgiris and back just for a quick weekend trip.

The moment you hop in, and anywhere you choose to go, across more or less any kind of terrain, roads or no roads, the sheer confidence the Thar imparts is presently only rivalled by the Wrangler or Fortuner or similar. It is really an amazing vehicle. Whatever we may all say and crib about and accuse M&M of, this new Thar IS just an awesome beast in its own right.

And with the AVO suspension and underbody armour and all, I just don't bother much about any of the potholes or bumps or speed breakers.

And as long as one drives with steady momentum at a reasonable pace of 90-110kmph and NOT just ‘flooring it’ keeping in mind the boxy build, one can live with the fuel inefficiency. Mine returned around 8.75 to 9kmpl. Now I have to fill up and see how much it has actually given because I ve driven around 150-180kms since the last fill which was during the last trip. And this 150-180kms has been in the plains.

But all said and done better not to do very long tours in the petrol version if one is spend conscious.

Even the Jeep Wrangler Petrol has the same traits of fuel inefficiency and it weighs much the same too.

But otherwise, our Thar is an extremely accomplished vehicle considering what it offers at the price and for its general purpose.
