Do it already! Why be so hard on yourself and delay the inevitable?

Besides, you never know what the future holds. Given the abysmal sales numbers, it will not be a surprise if Maruti pulls the plug on it entirely!

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Hello friends, going through dilemma, whether to keep XUV500(2016 model, AWD, AT) and get Jimny (Alpha AT) which I am getting for 15.49 OTR.

Reasons to sell: 125K kms on the ODO, recently engine work done over 70k rupees. Bit of rust developed which will be issue in future. Keeping Mahindra car at home making me social, specially garage owners.

Reason to go for Jimny: Suzuki reliability, 4*4, petrol, small footprint, city friendly.

I am ready to compensate for size, 3 extra seats and torque.

Shankar, a lot of the people on this thread including me would have bet good money that you would have been one of the first Jimny buyers, given your passion for this little thing! Just to goad you on a bit, here's a picture of mine.

I am echoing the thoughts of others here - please get one while the getting's good

There is a black paint that is used to restore faded black trim - it would make them look brand new , afterwards paint the steel wheels Wimbledon white and give the vehicle for polishing - I still remember how amazing that dark green paint looks when new.

Now park that Gypsy next to this Jimny!

Yes I know that Jimny is a lot easier to drive , has AC, comfortable suspension etc but so does an Alto - hope you got the message, why part ways with a classic?!

Encourage someone else in your family to part with their vehicle for a Jimny if you like it that much.

1. Thats exactly like the classic old ‘Kenya Station’ Safari Landrover look of the 1950’s and 1960’s. I did re-create this on my last Gypsy which was the same Harvest Green colour. I contrasted that with Khaki wheels and Khaki top. Like George and Joy Adamsons Landrovers in Born Free and all. That Gypsy is with brother Bibendum now in Kochi.

2. There is no one else in the family who will buy and use the Jimny. My Dad prefers his comfortable car now after a lifetime of Jeeps. I have tried hard to convince him and he just won’t budge.

1. Had I not become totally swayed (post covid syndrome) by the Jeepy looks of the Thar in 2020, and had Maruti been just a little more honest and transparent about the Jimny launch, I would have definitely waited and bought the Jimny over the Thar, any day of the week.

1. I think you will be making a mature decision. The Jimny is very well engineered.

2. For city use, its narrowness and proportions are just perfect.

1. This coming weekend I am getting a new Kona EV.
Soon I will have to rationalise the garage into just two long termers. The Jimny will definitely
be one of them.

2. I am hoping they continue the Jimny as a ‘halo’ product. And there seem to be quite a few in the used market already. So chances are, ‘ere long, a Jimny will find its way into the house just as it has found its way into my heart.

I just prefer high quality, small footprint vehicles.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

This little fellow not only impresses on and off the road but also looks dapper off the floor.

Maruti Jimny Review-pxl_20240303_051140385.jpg

Completed second service today. 4925 kms in less than three months. This is one of the fastest mile-munching I've done, on any vehicle paid for by me. Closest is HD Fatboy, about 4000kms which was achieved in Q4, 2017 (by younger and fitter me). Jimny has become my chariot for daily needs and occasional trips outside displacing Brio (exchanged), X3, Yezdi, Bullet, and Fat boy.

Service centre was hesitant to change the engine oil before 10k mark. However, I insisted they do it. SA told me it is first Jimny they are handling for oil change and next few seconds of conversation goes like this:

SA: "I will have to confirm with seniors which oil to be used for Jimny"
Me: "Use 0w16 Ecstar MGO"
SA: "How do you know?"
Me: "I've read the OM"
SA: Surprised. "You received OM with Jimny"?
Me: "No, I downloaded PDF from Maruti's website just like what you have (he was looking at the 2nd service checklist on his computer)".
...
...
SA: "Anything else?"
Me: "Wheel balancing, alignment and rotation"

Note:
Maruti recommends only rotation at 5k kms. However, I noticed the slight left pull on the steering, present since delivery, mysteriously disappeared after about 4k mark on the odometer. Plus, I had hit some bad potholes at speed during our Pushkar and Ajmer trip. Therefore, wanted to check any wheel bend/balancing issues etc. for the peace of mind.

Final bill- a tad over 3000/-. Two third was oil change and rest were wheel balancing and body wax polish. Overall, happy with Jimny so far

Well, you would be transitioning from a huge vehicle to a nimble one!! Torque is not an issue in city and on highways till 100-110 KMPH, above that you have EVC to your support

I would suggest to go ahead and take test drives - not just once. Even better if you have a friend with whom you can plan a Jimny day - go for single day (or more) trip if possible!

That would help you gauge what all you gain and what you lose. Overall, Jimny is a great vehicle and I had many apprehensions before I bought one!

Not only me, even my brother and others were like - wait for 5 door thar or get a 3 door one (like dimaag kharaab ho gaya hai!!), but now they have fallen in love and look forward to driving whenever they get a chance - I am not very generous with that though!

Lovely to see the grandad with grandson. The steelies in your Gypsy looks killer. I just wish we have a similar one for the Jimny. Do you plan to keep the grandad after purchasing the Jimny

Jimny Zeta comes with lovely Steel Wheels.

I cannot keep the Gypsy and the Jimny. The Gypsy will give way to the Jimny in my case.

The Zeta Manual is very attractive. The only differences between the Zeta and Alpha are
1. Green tinted UV Glasses in Alpha
2. Halogens in Zeta and LED in Alpha
3. Headlamp washers in Alpha
4. Cruise Control in Alpha
5. Alloy wheels in Alpha

The Zeta actually represents the near perfect modern replacement for the Gypsy.

@Shankar,
Not sure how much discount you are getting for Jimny.

If interested, I can connect you with owner of MS authorized service center who can get discount from nexa kalyani. After he got to know that I purchased Jimny, he said he could have gotten me some more discount. He can get 2-3 such discounts per year is what he said. Didn't dwell much.

Wonder if the standard round 7” LED headlights that fit the Thar will fit Jimny too? If yes, these might be a suitable replacement.

The Nexa fellows are saying 50K and maybe some 20K more. This is the max.
I would be much obliged for a connection to the boss man of Kalyani.
My friend in Coorg is also interested. So there could be the possibility of 2 vehicles being bought. One Zeta AT and One Zeta MT (or even Alpha MT) if the fancy strikes me, because this is meant to be a long term “keeper”.

I think it won't fit directly. Some frame like this is required.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Has anyone done the jumper cable hack to keep TC off above 20 kmph in RWD?

I had tried it when we bought the car last year but it had no effect, maybe I didn’t do it the right way..

There are YouTube videos showing how to do this for the 3door Jimny. You have to insert both ends of a short cable into a socket below the dashboard, identified by a tan coloured cable attached to it. This should put the car into ESC maintenance mode, which turns off TC as well. I had found the relevant socket in our car, but possibly my jugaad cable was not up to the job.

(Posting this in the interests of science, no drifting on public roads etc etc)
