I think this is because of the insane climb into Bangalore from Krishnagiri

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Can you please share some more details about the alloys and tyre brands and sizes that you got installed? It will be great if you can post side profile pics of your Thar Roxx so that the overall tyres and alloys are visible . Thank you.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Hello BHPians,

This is my first post on Team-bhp and i thought of starting off with the ownership experience of my Thar Roxx AX7L 2WD P AT in Battleship grey.

Prelude
My father in his childhood aspired of owning a jeep and that was the first vehicle he bought, a used Mahindra CL 500 in 1994, sold it and got used a CL 550 in 2003 and in 2013 bought a brand new first generation thar. We have been with Mahindra for over 3 decades and even though many cars were bought and accompanied them, the jeep always was close to heart.

Booking
Come 2024 and when we heard of the Thar Roxx launching, decided on selling our thar and booked the vehicle within the first few mins of booking opening. There was a delay in payment to go through and i got the confirmation email at 11:07 on 3rd October. in the mail they advised that the waiting period will be announced latest by 25th October. As promised got an email on 25th October that the delivery period is tentatively between 01-12-2024 to 01-01-2025. We followed up with our dealer and they we tight lipped, as according to them they will get the dates only when the factory invoices them and they had no way of tracking them. In the meantime did a test drive of the vehicle so my parents are comfortable with the ingress to the rear seats. On 29-11-2024 we got an email from the dealer that the vehicle has been allotted and payment needs to be done within 7 days. We scrambled to get the finances and insurance in place. Did the PDI the next week when the vehicle arrived at the dealership and set the delivery date for 14th December. Also The booking status had no change and there were no updates since the beginning, even after delivery the booking still remained in the app. This is what Mahindra needs to sort out in future launches.

Delivery
Reached at around 11 AM on 14th of December and the vehicle was ready, kept under wraps. we had asked for few accessories but they had none in stock and said that no deliveries have come yet. The paper-works were completed and we brought the vehicle home.

Experience
Coming from a first generation Thar, Roxx is a whole new level of refinement. The sound insulation is very good and steering is very light. the petrol engine has a lot of power on tap and felt better coming from a CRDE. The panoramic roof brings a lot of light and the interiors feel spacious with the white fabric. Yes, but is vey hard to clean. My mother's dress fabric color has leached into the seats and is not coming off. It is a head turner where ever you go and i have got many compliments on the battleship grey color. Ride feels planted and all the features provided will take time to get used to. The Roxx is primarily going to be ridden by my parents as i work overseas and they love the Roxx.

Hey BHPians,

I cancelled my second booking online on 26th Jan, but haven’t received my refund so far. Does anyone have a clue how much time does it take for the refund to be credited?

Did you check your bank or credit card statement? Some people aren’t even receiving emails or text messages regarding their cancellation and refund status.
I canceled on 7th Jan and didn’t receive any text or email from Mahindra. On 20th Jan, I was about to raise a complaint with them but decided to check my statement first and the refund was there, credited on 18th Jan.

Additionally, the cancellation page initially showed a 10% cancellation charge, but I received a full refund.

I have checked my statement, no credit so far. I have written to the booking support team, I am hoping to get a response in the next 48 hours.

It took about 3 weeks to get the money back into the actual mode used for paying for me. I had to write to bookingsupport and I took snapshot of each and every step in the cancellation process to tell them the actual date when booking cancellation was initiated.

Hi,

Upsizing alloys on Thar Roxx

New Tyre size is 285/50/20 Yokohama Geolander AT
Alloy brand: Plati

Ride quality
I drove for 120kms before I upgraded from 19inch alloys + Ceat AT tyres. Observations,
1) These are definitely silent than the Ceat AT. If the tyres were not sticking out it would have been even more silent.
2) Ride is definitely better cushioned ( 32 psi).
3) Steering feel - Bit tighter now by a small margin but the feel is twice as better than before, it is still lighter than Nline just for comparison.
4) Post 100kmh speed wind noise is more than tyre noise.

Alternate options considered.

No chinese or indonesian tyres like Comforser, Roadcruzer, Radar, were considered though they are much cheaper with excellent tyre tread patterns.

1) Downsizing to 18" alloys with tyres considered Maxxis Bravo AT 285/60/18. This tyre has got amazing tread far better than Yokohama Geolander AT but I think they will definitely be noisier of the two.

2) 20" tyre options considered, Only other option available is Maxxis Razr AT but it comes in a not so popular tyre size which is 275/55/20 where the difference in circumference vis a vis original 19 inch Thar Roxx tyres is 2.78% and recommendation is usually to keep within 2% but for a car like Thar , you can go for it. And a plus point with Maxxis is it's sidewall is similar to original 19" 255/60/19. Again the tread on Maxxis Razr is by far better than the Yoko AT anyday.

3) Did not consider 22inch tyre upsize as that is more bling than function and that would require to change bumper or a deep cutting of bumper of bumper inside which I was not in favour of.

Recommendation
1) Mostly Highway drive Choose Yokohama Or Maxxis ( Even Michelin can be considered as they are available in 18inch only and not 20inch )

2) City drive with low running You can choose chinese patterns as well as they have got very nice aggresive tyre tread patterns. If you prefer looks over function.

3) Offroad Brand Radar RT+ is definitely better than Yoko AT or Maxxis ATand come with very nice aggresive tyre tread pattern but they will be noisy.

You can choose based on your usage. Do share once you get them installed.

Happy driving the car of the year

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I've been researching Fuel alloy wheels, particularly the Contra model, and noticed a significant price variation. Is this due to replicas or manufacturing from different countries? I was offered a Fuel Contra 18inch for 1Lakh for 5 Alloys, does that sound reasonable? Or it's a replica and I should consider brands like Plati or Neo?

I went to the Mahindra's BE event yesterday. I know from a source that they will rev up their production from April. So, guys be patient because the 3XO bookings are yet to be fulfilled till now. And don't know when my MX1 will be delivered.
