Very true. I think the delivery also slow down in comparison to October & November in December & January. We heard that the production will be increased from 5k to 9k in the month of January. But it is not going like the way they told us. Not a single MX1 delivered in the Odisha till now

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

While on the topic of demand for Roxx, I enquired in mid Dec if any MX3 D AT in White was available for immediate delivery. I enquired in multiple showrooms and they were like "you have to book..., can't deliver without booking..., x months waiting..., no stock of Roxx at all...". I told them to get back to me if there are any cancellations and vehicle becomes available in Dec. I didn't book the Roxx because of the pathetic experience I had with Mahindra and their dealer during my Scorpio N booking.

In the last 10 days, two of the dealers reached out to me saying MX3 D AT White is available for ready delivery. I told them I'll wait for few more weeks and take a MY25 Roxx now. Euphoria definitely seems to have cooled down.

Like I mentioned earlier, it took a while of conversations to actually get hold of a 4WD. Initially, they were willing to give only the RWD variants. We didn't want to do a non-4WD version test drive.

It was made clear that we wanted to use 4WD high at least. Also that booking would be immediate if we liked the car. So the sales team effectively took a gamble, if we look at it that way.

Now, this mild offroading was possible only a 30 minute drive away from the showroom. So they arranged to meet us at a convenient location. We had done a similar route for our Jimny test drive as well, so we wanted a proper comparison.

Both my wife and I took turns with our respective test drives. We wanted to take turns to explore almost all features, so it turned out to be a two (too?) long test drives.

I would like to report that the showroom guys won this gamble. They soon walked away with a booking cheque for an AX7L 4WD mocha interior version in Forest Green colour.

Sir while the Euphoria may have cooled down for those who are waiting for delivery, in my last 15 years of driving four wheelers I have never seen a car (below 25Lakhs INR) getting so much of attention even 'unwanted' on the road. I have other drivers, passengers literally straining their neck to check out the Roxx and sometimes its driver . I have driven over 1600kms and I am still not getting used to the 'unwanted' attention!

I have seen the same during all my test drives of Thar Roxx!

A Day Like no Other with the Rocks - I mean Roxx

The Roxx at the Rocks....

January 15th, 2025—right in the middle of a meeting, my phone rings. With the flood of spam calls, my patience is razor-thin. But, given the nature of my work, ignoring calls isn’t an option.

A lady on the other end says, "Hi, is this... can I speak to you for a moment?" Ugh, another spam call.
Just as I'm about to hang up, she hurriedly adds, "Sir, sir, sir... this is regarding the Thar off-roading event in Igatpuri." Wait, what? My mind freezes—should I stay in the meeting or take this call? "Can you call back later?" Beeeep.

The meeting turned into a blur. All I could think about was off-roading in the Thar—yes, the Thar, not the Roxx, because Roxx wasn't even mentioned!

The next day, the phone rang again. This time, she explained it was about an adventure trail activity.

"Are you serious?" Which celestial bodies had aligned to bless me with this opportunity? Should I thank Mahindra or the universe?

"What exactly is this activity?" She elaborated on the 4x4 off-roading event in Igatpuri, and then popped the golden question—"Would you like to join?" My brain screamed, Darling, I wouldn't just like to join; I would LOVE to join! And just like that, the excitement kicked in, setting this day apart from any other.

We circled January 18th, 2025, on our calendars—just one day away!

Would love to know how was the experience and what was on plan.

Funny thing is this was not available for people who own Thar Roxx but for people who have booked it!
I received same phone call on alternate number which had a booking for Aug 2025, when I told the lady I would like to join it though I already own the car, she said she will get back in 15 mins but never got back.

While I am sad, but what amazes me that Mahindra is not stopping from showing off this vehicle and get those bookings converted to deliveries.

Continuing the thread..
My experience as a 4x4 driver...9 on 10 basis my experience of driving an Omni in Mangalore and breaking a number plate, driving an Indica through a river and offcourse driving a few MM540's, Agypsy with a Isuzu engine and a Tata 207....

My rating to myself post the event 2.5 on 10...

Kudos to Mr. Satyendra the 4x4 chief at the facility (In the army cargo's) who insisted that we unlearn before we start the trail, which I partly listened to before the trail and completely became a student after the first hurdle. The one in the Cowboy hat - Ryan from Marketing and his team were extremely hospitable.

Up at 4:30 AM, the plan was to leave by 5. A quick glance at the map showed a 3-hour journey—phew, a relief considering the ongoing road repairs. The stretch between Thane and Kalyan felt like an off-roading track in itself. Dropped off my 4 year old at sis-in-laws place and made it in 3.5 hours, with a 30-minute breakfast break thrown in.
A swift entry at the security gate, and I parked under the shade of some trees—my ride for the day. My beloved 16-year-old Swift, recently repainted, with 2.2 lakh kilometres on the odo and a still-efficient diesel engine. The turbo still gives me butterflies, and despite its quirks, I adore it for the million ways it makes up for them.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-img20250119wa0089.jpg

As we walked in, all we could see were Roxx, Roxx, and more Roxx—except for a lone Scorpio Classic and an old Thar, which seemed more suited for hardcore towing duties than actual participation.
The marketing team was already on-site. Indemnity forms were signed, T-shirts swapped, caps donned, and breakfast wrapped up—ready to roll! Or so we thought. But hey, this is India—we eagerly waited for a few more participants to arrive. While our impatience grew, the Mahindra team remained composed, fully understanding the excitement of enthusiasts eager to hit the road and ensuring no one missed out just because they were running late. Full points to Mahindra and the team.

The Mahindra training center isn’t a manufacturing facility. It’s where training and testing happen. The center boasts a 28-acre space with off-roading tracks and various challenging terrains for testing vehicles.
Interestingly, this was the first time Thar Roxx event was happening in Igatpuri even though it was extensively tested here. It was made clear that the vehicles were highly capable, but we should follow the instructor’s directions to avoid mistakes.

The entry to the trail feels like a restricted area of a tiger reserve.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-bha_1930min.jpg

The first hurdle - home run - A 45 degree drop. all activities were done in 4L - and 1st Gear. Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-bha_2020min.jpg

Yours truly

Next a steep turn right into a ditch.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-bha_1995min.jpg
Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-bha_1981min.jpg

The next few hurdles were steep climb and an almost 90 degree drop. The car even without the 4x4 gear is quite capable but, with the hardware it does every single thing.

I will let the pictures do the talking.

Signing off with the best image from the event.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-bha_2197min.jpg

Niggles: How can we sum it up without a niggle with an Indian manufacturer. Well in one of the hill climbs, followed by multiple 4 feet ditches, the terrain mode option just did not switch on. But the team kept trying it in a manner which felt like they were sure it would work. When it didn't not a single one was flustered, even though the terrain looked like a track which was not easy. But a little guidance and few throttle inputs - the Roxx just came out without breaking a sweat.

Once I was back the next participant got in - pressed the terrain to mud and voila - turned on. ...

Which is why my initial comment - the car is quite capable without the 4x4 hardware in RWD guise also.

Overall a great event and extremely well managed. The hospitality was top notch and the expertise of Mr. Satyendra and his team is impeccable.

You can also register aon the Mahindra Adventure site and do the trail for a fee. But, if you get a invite - don't miss it.

PS: A big Thank you to Rahul who is standing next to Ryan - It was my 10th year anniversary and he managed a wonderful cake in the middle of nowhere...Thank you Mahindra team

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx

Fellow BHPians,
I have been allotted AX7L 4X4 AT. I want to buy insurance for the same. Mahindra dealer quoted me 1,06,000. I need your advice whether to go for it or has anyone got a better deal than this. Thanks

They will match the external quotes, check with Tata AIG or Acko and share the quotes with your sales rep.

I got 3+3 years insurance for 93-96k from Tata AIG. The Dealer matched it.

Yeah as someone else also pointed out, the dealer matches the quote if we have one. For me, the dealer said they can only do a 1+3 (some company policy they said). I didn't argue coz one thing I have learnt is there is no point arguing with Mahindra or its dealers. So I took a couple of quotes with all "add-ons" for 1+3 and they matched it.

Interesting, coz the attitude here in Bangalore across dealerships for the top end models atleast is still the same disinterested one.

Consider escalating the matter to senior management. The floor sales guys are usually not too good at spotting the serious buyers. We had done that since there was no way we were going to cough up close to 30 lakh on a car without a proper test drive.

Take a quote from Acko and ask Mahindra to match it, they may not match 100%, but will come down a lot.
