The vibrations could be because of wheel spacers. You previously mentioned that you are using 10mm wheel spacers or something like that. These low thickness spacers are usually not hub centric, so there is space between hub and center bore which results in the vibration. You should use hub centric rings or go for hub centric spacers to avoid these vibrations.

Here's what I think when it comes to deciding between the two:

If your car is parked outside or anywhere it's prone to scratches from street vendors, kids etc get PPF.

If you're the kind of guy who will go and spend whatever to try to keep the car in showroom condition as much as possible, get PPF.

If you want you car in matte, get PPF.

If your car is washed by your maid or servant everyday and you don't have time to maintain the car then get Ceramic Coating.

If you can spend time waxing cleaning washing your car yourself you don't need Ceramic or Graphene Coating.

I got Ceramic Coating on my ROXX and I've been pretty happy with it.

Hi Sir, can you recommend a good detailing studio for Ceramic Coating in Delhi/Noida. Is Carzspa reliable? I want to go for a 5 year plan.

PPF is a boon for people who go offroading. The bushes and thorns out there arent paint friendly and a PPF helps retain the paint.

Every drive trough a narrow bushy path doesn't need to scratch your heart.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Welcoming “The Beast”

Thar Roxx AX7L RWD Diesel White joins our family.

Well I have been a member of TeamBHP since 2009 and has been a voracious content consumer than a creator. I joined this group at the time of purchase of my first vehicle (I10 Magna 1.2), since then have changed multiple vehicles.

My previous car was a Brezza Diesel ZDI which was with me for the last 6.5 years. Having driven it for 1.2Lakh kilometers, the itch for a new car was at its peak.
A few vehicles were in contention and they were, Grand Vitara ECVT, Kushak and Thar Roxx. The plan was to sell my Brezza before it touched 1lakh kilometers. But held on waiting for the launch of Thar 5 Door.

Well coming to the buying experience. Managed to arrange a test drive of the Roxx as soon as it came to the dealership. Test drive was ok ok, due to limited time and limited distance. A few things that impressed me where, road presence, seating position, butter smooth steering and the power. In the test drive process, there was a small incident, when a biker jumped in from a pocket road and I swerved the vehicle like I would in my Breeza. It gave me a scare, but the vehicle never felt out of control.

Got the booking done and managed to get an early delivery too. The variant and color helped, I guess.

Fast forwarding to delivery day, the delivery went as normal as there were a queue of customers for delivery. The ODO showed 20KMs. Customary flowers, chocolates, gift box, a few photos and delivery was done. Reached home which was about 8Kms away parked by 7PM. By 8PM planned for dinner and the vehicle refused to start. Tried everything in the book, the vehicle just wouldn’t just start. Called the dealership, they promised to send someone next day morning. Being the first Roxx in the apartment, it soon had a crowd around it.

Next day morning the on-road team came and tried starting, same luck the engine wouldn’t start. They plugged in the diagnostic tool and it started showing up all kinds of errors. After all attempts they decided to get it towed to the workshop. They waited for an hour for the tow vehicle to arrive. One person who came with the team tried one last time to start the vehicle and voila the vehicle just starts as if nothing had happened. The vehicle started, everything works perfectly and all looks normal.

They cancelled the tow truck and drove the vehicle to the workshop to get it checked. As soon as the vehicle reached the workshop, they created a WhatsApp group with all their heads and also a few people from Mahindra OEM. They tested the vehicle and came to a conclusion to get the instrument cluster wiring harness changed. They ordered the part on urgency and replaced it. Dropped the vehicle back after 4 days of taking it. So that became our second delivery of the same vehicle.

Kudos to the Dealership team and the OEM team for timely updates and getting things done without any hitch.

It’s been now 25 odd days since delivery and with 1st service completed and 4K+ kilometers on the ODO, it’s been good sailing.

A few observations.

The vehicle currently gives a mileage of 16.7KM/L. I have put it on auto reset on every full tank.

The vehicle is planted, believe me you can push it (sensibly) and it stays on the ground.
Make sure to correct the tyre pressure to 32Psi. It’s overinflated when you first get it. Even the tyre shop guy refused to put 32Psi saying its too less.

Mine was at 36Psi when I got it, and it was bouncy as hell. But after correcting it you can feel a world of a difference.

Bottle holder, well what do I say. Simply put it I haven’t found any that will fit. Mahindra what were you thinking??

White interiors, well I have come to terms with it. I first purchased a 3M interior cleaning foam even before the vehicle arrived. It does the job well.

I wish there was atleast 1 memory function for the seat position.

Wind noise above 100Kms. You will only come to know the speed because of the wind noise.

Warnings and alerts pop up if the sky roof is open and the speed increases above 30 or 40. (I like this feature, will act as a deterrent to those travelling with heads popping out at insane speeds.) There is lots of drag also with the sky roof open.

Light is not sufficient. The beam strength is too low in fog conditions. Thinking about changing it. In research mode.

Additions to the Vehicle:

Mats: Purchased GFX mats for including the boot. Love it.
Sunfilm: Installed Cosmo film. 50% on the sides and 70% transparency for front and back.
Front Grill: Painted it black to break the white monotony.

He read my post on TeamBHP regarding the above mentioned test drive & he wanted to meet us for further feedback. He came all the way from Chennai to discuss our experience & take further feedback, I was blown away by the efforts the team Mahindra is putting to listen to their customers & working for further improvements.
This is very satisfying, as it will only make their cars more desirable and reliable.
Now if they really focus on the main chatter - the white upholstery, (and mend it) a lot of prospective buyers like myself will actually go for it!
I would like to state the same suggestion for most of their vehicles with white upholstery - XEV9E, 3X0, Roxx

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Has anyone tried fitting the original AX5L/AX7L Headlamps with the C-Shaped DRLs on the MX3? The below YouTube video from a Karol Bagh shop owner claims that this headlamp is a direct plug and play on the lower MX1/MX3 variants using the same coupler. Even if this is the case, how does one control the DRL using the driving stalk controls provided on the MX3? Would turning it on also turn on standard flat DRLs on the side edges of the car? So then one drives around with 4 DRLs (2 C-shaped and 2 flat?)

Currently the problem with MX3 DRLs (flat ones on sides of the car) is that they need to be switched on by moving the headlight control one step to the parking lamp position. Once you do that, the ICE screen automatically switches to dark (night) mode, which is distracting and not very good for navigation maps etc. in the daytime.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Android Auto on MX1!

MX1 doesn't get Android Auto from Mahindra. But by installing "Headunit Reloaded" on the default android system which is shipped by Mahindra, I was able to get Android Auto working wirelessly! After a 1 time setup process, now it's seamless - switch on the car and AA gets connected in about 40 seconds automatically.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-20250108_195705.jpg

Even if you don't install that, by default there's an app on the Head unit which allows you to mirror your phone's display. Mirroring in action below, before I figured out the Android Auto solution:

Random pics from its first outing:
Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-20250106_221122.jpg
Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-20250106_221154.jpg

The Thar seems to be really efficient in MT guise. I got 19KMPL for a highway run cruising normally at 80-100KMPH.
Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-20250106_211327.jpg

Also when I tried driving economically, I got almost 23KMPL in extra-urban settings, at an average speed of ~40KMPH.
Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-20250107_205448_resized.jpg

These figures show that Mahindra's auto box really saps away a lot of the diesel's inherent efficiency. My father has a ScorpioN D-AT and it would have delivered maybe 15-17 KMPL in both of the above scenarios at best.

Other points noted so far:

Ride - better than the ScorpioN. Moves around lesser on rough roads for sure.
Handling - lots of roll, but actually holds on to its line in a corner surprisingly well for its size.
FE - Quite impressive due to manual tranny & slight detuning (150BHP/330NM version in mine).
There is prominent driveline shunt when going back on throttle in higher gears. Noticed this in the Scorpio-N D AT too, and was noted in some reviews too - so seems like a Mahindra thing.
Clutch is super light. No issues in traffic at all.
Headlights are OK. High beam is narrow and lacks brightness for traveling at decent speeds. But does a decent job at lower speeds. No, OEM fog lamps wouldn't help this.
Gearshift needs to free up - currently a little bit sticky at times. Hoping this gets better after running in.
No rev hang / delay of any sort. Throttle pedal feels organic & responds exactly as you'd expect without any electronic interference.
A joy to perform rev matched downshifts (slightly sticky gearshift notwithstanding)
Very happy that I got the manual since it makes driving at city speeds also engaging.

Thanks, assuming it should be safer to go for high quality spacers. Should I go for Proman spacers seeing the positive feedback on it; or are there other options as well. Also where do I source them in Bangalore? Any help from the members would be appreciated.

When you put the MX5-AX7L headlights on MX3, it is just coupler to coupler procedure for sure. But to turn on the DRL we have to put the switch on park light from the right stalk. That's how the software of MX3 reads it.
The reasoning is that MX3 headunit doesn't give you the option of "Vehicle Settings > DRL Settings > Always on / Manual on with park light" as you get in MX5 - AX7L. Due to lack of this software feature, "always on" is not available in MX3. MX3 software doesn't have provision for DRL settings for obvious reasons, and the coupler takes the input signal from park light signal only.

As I understand, Mahindra is doing alot of stuff differently at software level between the variants while keeping the hardware/harness/wirings/couplers common among the variants. Somethings are "locked/unlocked" at software level only. Like DRL controls, Fog Lamp Switch control, Front Parking Camera and Sensors control etc.

Mahindra did the same with 3xO and Scorpio N too with their fog lamp and rear camera "software locks".

Thanks, this is very helpful. I was also searching for the "always on" DRL setting in the HU but could not find it.

However M&M's thinking here is illogical. Thy do provide DRLs in MX3 (the front side LEDs double up as both turn indicators and DRLs). Having provided these so called LED DRLs, there has to be a provision to enable them at day time without having to switch on parking lights. One cannot leave parking lights on permanently, as it may cause battery drain when the vehicle is non-operational.

I hope they enable the software feature in the headset from the MX5, to set "always on DRLs" in the MX3.

Yes, I am pretty sure it is Apple Car Play because the only phone I have connected to the car is my iPhone. And I am pretty sure it is wireless.

It's not that bothersome in my experience and one can live with it. It's just that car is so dead silent below 80, you just can't help but notice the increase in noise above 90. Please note that in whole journey, I didn't cross 120 kmph speed, so I can't vouch for anything above that. But considering the car's shape, I believe it is bound to be more noisy with speed.

Just to share my personal feeling, Thar is similar to my Royal Enfield. Both are not made for agility and speed. They are built to rule the road with confidence, cruising at comfortable speeds.

Feels rock solid on the road. Just a push on the pedal and in no time you touch 80 kmph. Dead silent below ~80. Yes, there is noise above 90 but you can live with it. I didn't go above 120 kmph.

Yes. I did try both Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

I found LKA more obtrusive than helpful. To be fair, we don't have perfect roads and drivers so I understand the challenge technology would face. I had to constantly change lanes due to trucks, buses, and two-wheelers driving in fastest lane and LKA didn't like that.

I did find ACC helpful in certain stretches. But sometimes it feels too defensive. I mean when there is a truck in the same lane, it reduces speed too early with a big distance still left to cover. Perhaps there is a setting to shorten this gap but I haven't been able to find any yet. Also a hint of two wheeler driving on the side is enough to kill the cruising speed.

It was around 175 km on regular 4-lane highway (max 120 kmph) and around 125 kms rural roads / undivided state highway (~80 kmph). It also included a ghat section of around 15 kms. Overwall a fun driving experience.

Crosswinds weren't strong so I wouldn't blame them for increased noise in high speed cruise. I understand when you love someone/something so much, you don't want to accept their flaws. But you can accept the flaws and still fall in love. As someone said "your imperfections are what makes you lovable".

I didn't find the under thigh support to be an issue. But I am 5'6" so this verdict will not be useful to the taller friends. My wife did complain about the seats being a little firm. She was sitting in back row for the whole journey. Though she didn't complain about the body roll (which I was expecting).

I have kids (5 & 10). And sometimes they get too excited and playful. This resulted in seats being spoiled on a few spots. But I could clean them easily afterwards so not a big issue. The marks on the roof are more worrisome. Being a fabric, you can't clean them easily (or can you?).

Dashboard showed ~14.5 kmpl mileage after the journey and I was quite satisfied with it. For context, it was AX5L diesel automatic RWD.

Thank you for sharing this information. I recently booked the AX7L D AT version and my dealer told me that there is no apple car play yet and it will take some more months for Mahindra to roll-out this feature. Hence, it is indeed surprising that apple carplay is up and running on your Roxx. Did you have any software updates done at the dealership recently or was it active since the time of delivery?

I am fully aware of the ladder on frame build and therefore a comparison to monocoque from a ride comfort perspective is not comparable, what has been your/your family experience so far from a ride comfort perspective? Have they felt that they are being thrown around a lot? Would be great to get your prespective. Thank you.

Congratulations and quite an experience for a brand new vehicle !! Few questions.
  • Is 32 psi the recommended number from Mahindra for the Roxx?
  • Can you please let me know which dealer in Bangalore did you use for this purchase? I have done it via Anant car (Old Madras road outlet) and would like to get an idea of dealer experience if any.
  • How many weeks/months did you wait between booking and actual delivery?
  • Any pictures to share?
  • 16.7 kmpl is impressive for this AT 4x4, how are you achieving it? Is it city drive or highway driving mostly?

Hi!

Are you sure that Mahindra advertises these lights as DRLs and not pilot lights? Going by how they have to be enabled, they seem more like parking lights/pilot lights to me. We have seen this in cars like the 1st gen Creta, previous gen Scorpio etc.

If Mahindra is indeed advertising these as DRLs while expecting folks to operate a switch to turn them on, then it is quite misleading.

Wireless Apple CarPlay was working at the time of delivery. I have also got the first service (2000 km) done. Service guy informed me that there is a software update pending which they applied during the service. Fortunately, the update hasn't messed up the wireless CarPlay functionality.

I have my parents (above 70), wife, and kids (5 & 10) in my family. No-one has complained about the ride quality. I drive sedately so it might have helped. Mother shows some discomfort while getting in and out but not a show-stopper.
