Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

The way GTO does a review is the way it should be done by everyone! Put it in bullet points (I really really like bulleted points), then, put the vehicle in a real world use case scenario + with a family member or a casual user or a non-petrol head (I doubt whether missus is still a non-petrol head!) and get their opinion as well. So, at the end of the day, I concur 100% of what GTO analyzed. This is the vehicle to turn heads whether while just parked or driving, abuse friendly, with appreciable technology with few or more creature comforts and basics lacking.

This can not be the luxurious, plush mile muncher like an Innova or Creta etc. that will cocoon the passenger in a great comfort in short or long drives.

I had no booking issues. A few people, including myself, were left out when Mahindra sent notifications about the tentative delivery timeline for their bookings.

When I called the customer support, they're just saying that I'll get my delivery date by EOD . The SA at the showroom is also clueless about the delivery date. Can you guys suggest me what to do.
Welcome to the club. I just sent a final email requesting the tentative delivery timeline for my booking; otherwise, I will cancel my order for good. We'll see how it goes.

Off topic, but is that a Apple Silicon Macbook Pro running Windows 11? You seem to be a huge Windows fan! Especially with how MS is ruining Win11 with all the bloatware, ads and the Copilot shenanigans.

• The lower variants of the 5-door Thar Roxx roll on R18 wheels, these will definitely ride better. I personally don't agree with the higher variant's R19 wheel size as, other than aesthetics, they offer no other advantage.
Hi GTO, awesome feedback. I notice you have mentioned a lot of pointers on the ride issue and potential impact due to R19 wheels. Wanted to ask you, if one changes to R18 wheels, which of the above points do you think we can expect an improvement on and how much?

I am buying the AX7L 4x4 so this would be helpful in knowing what to spend in tyres.
Thanks !

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I watched few videos of Thar Roxx rear axle issue and other car videos people posted as a response. I may be wrong but movement and thumping in Roxx is more than others. It is better Thar Roxx owners not to test their car until we get a response from Mahindra or other experts.

Thx GTO for your review! This is one of those rare cars that can comfortably share space with any modern big German. Just love it to bits !

Looking for more road trip reviews from BHPians in the Roxx across the length and breadth of this great country. It just gives so much confidence to tackle any and all roads anywhere.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Another point, I missed which GTO mentioned. I can not just fathom the fact that a 20+ lakhs car can not do 120+ comfortably, smoothly, with NO - body roll and vertical movements. Even a 10 lakhs+ Ertigas, Dusters, Basalts does this comfortably, (I am aware of the speed limit) but the point is, if 120kmph is your acceptable/livable upper limit of a compliant ride quality, then the sweet spot on the same car will be around 90kmph or less if the road is good.

Over all capability should be improved in all categories, not just build quality, features etc. Roxx has its inherent aerodynamics and suspension dynamics not working in its favour as it is focused towards off road, but is that the real target market? I do not think Roxx has that many buyers who wants to do off may be 10 or max 20%. Rest are all going to be mall haulers, show off and the ones who wants to tread the average pot holed roads and no roads city and sub urbans runabouts.

I would have preferred Mahindra rather taken the same 'tough as nails' image route and blend it with more acceptable/compliant ride quality. Mahindra lost its golden opportunity, I feel somehow to come up with a great, complete product which provides a unique proposition. Remember, there is no comparable product which is as matured and refined as Roxx.

Again avoid Online click baits, it could be just calibration, which might be required. It gets off if you drive on Rocky road/surface with Sunroof open. Just start closing the Sunroof click by click till fully closed

Well folks, I had the same doubts. So I asked my good friend who does seat upholstery and he says that he has done aftermarket seat covers for seats with airbags too. I guess it is just a matter of expertise. This guy did seat covers for both my Figo (7 yrs) and Creta (7 yrs) and both have held up exemplarily well. I hope this can be applied to the Roxx too, though the white dashboard and white roof liner is another concern.

Thanks for this vote of confidence.

Yes, I assumed this was common knowledge that aftermarket seat cover manufacturers can apply the same steps to ensure their seat covers open during airbag deployment.

Care has to be taken that the seat cover manufacturer is a trusted company with proven track record for making airbag compatible covers. I wouldn't get it done from any roadside shop.

By the way, does your friend have a shop? I am in the market for aftermarket seat covers for my Jimny and browsing quotes at the moment.

Check if airbag warranty gets voided or not.

Thanks a lot for these inputs. How would you rate the following BOFs SUVs out of 10 in terms of ride quality.

Fortuner, Scorpio N and thar ROXX.

Normally, it's usually cancelled for something like that.

Great review as always, and agree 100% with the above sentiment. There’s always something cool to experience on road trips in India, and our country has So Many hidden gems that discovering them is a joy.

Mahindra and Tata have really upped their game, but still need to get the finer details right. NOT OK to miss telescopic steering in bigger vehicles like the Roxx and ScorpioN.

How was the experience with the vehicle software? Any glitches or niggles observed?
Sad to say my ScorpioN still acts up regularly despite multiple software updates.
