Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Somehow, I don't understand the situation with overbooking and delivery periods. Since I am closely associated with manufacturing and OEM suppliers at tiers 1, 2, and 3, I see that tier 2 and 3 suppliers are still waiting for parts to be machined(Currently working under capacity) for over more than a year now from M&M XUV/THAR and now RoXX.

Is this just a marketing tactic?

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Congratulations on your new car. We are a family of 4 (2+2) and looking to buy a new car, currently driving Ford Ecosport diesel. Do you have any arguments in support of Thar Roxx as a single do it all for a small family that goes out for 4-5 outstation trips every year.

We are looking forward to a car that can handle city roads, highways, hills and bad roads well. Fuel efficiency isn't my top priority but shouldn't burn a hole in my pocket either. I am not a speed junkie but can't bear lack of power either.

Once the initial euphoria fades, most will see better value in products like Creta/Seltos and Scorpio N. For off-roading, 3D Thar and Jimny is the way to go, have my delivery scheduled for May, will see whether to go ahead with Roxx or drop the plan.
This part of Watt link suspension definitely seems lower. I have seen some similar rear suspension parts on Innova Crysta and Fortuner (4-link solid-axle rear suspension). Fortuner rear view image from our official review page. Off roading requires lot of skill and knowledge of your cars dimension and limitations which come only with experience as per my perspective.

I think the key is to make sure rocks with higher height do not go under cars underbody only. If the tyre goes over the rock, then this part of suspension will most likely not take a hit. We will need to wait for proper off-roading videos from good YouTubers to see how this part of suspension behaves. I remember videos coming out for Thar 3 door where the front radiator could take a hit because of no protection underneath and similarly DEF tank could be possibly hit in Scorpio-N during hardcore off-roading.

Yes, exactly. Hype is created with the help of so called expert youtubers who can't probably tell the difference between power & torque, differential & axle and over the top videos driven and shot by thorough professionals shown through ATL means for maximum visibility.

They sell in huge numbers in even before truly reliable and real-world long-term reviews are out. Pre-owned market gets flooded quite soon resulting in people waiting in queues settling with used examples. Soon enough the waitlist ends and then follow the discounts. Mahindra is a master in this activity and have followed the same template with their products like XUV700, Thar 3D, Scorpio N and now Thar Roxx.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Does Mahindra usually update the estimated delivery date in their portal?

Not seeing one for my Roxx booking, and wondering with the cancellations, if I would get updated on the revised delivery date by any chance.

Pretty much every single car in India can do what you're describing. If and when you do a Leh circuit you'll see out of state Alto i10 Venue Brezza Marazzo Bolero Slavia and tons of other cars tackling the same road as a 4x4 Thar.

For me you need two ask two questions - Do you want to buy a Thar? Can you live with a Thar? Based on the reviews and test drive if the answer to both is yes then just get the Thar 3D/5D.

If you create a table with ride, vfm, comfort, mileage, features, etc Thar or Thar Roxx will never make sense and win over other cars.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Hi Boys. I got to test drive the top of the line 4x4 Roxx last week.

I am sure most of the points are covered in the previous posts / review.

About me, I have covered 1.40 L km in my Duster AWD (2016 - till date) and around 55 k km in my Bolero 4 x 4 (2014-2017).

Sharing my views of the Roxx.
1. Loaded to the gills with tech!
2. That pano roof was just wow!!! The test car was boiling hot as it was standing in the mid day sun. I opened the sun roof and bingo, the cabin felt cooler almost instantaneously.
3. Best ride and handling for a BOF vehicle.
4. I could feel the road below but is very much liveable when compared to my erstwhile bolero. The ride is not choppy like say a gypsy.
5. Road undulations did scare the sh*t out of me!
6. U turns were just . That EPS was from another world!

I finished the test drive and started off home in my duster, and I sincerely thanked my stars to have retained it.

I am finding it IMPOSSIBLE to find a worthy upgrade for this piece of wonderfully engineered machinery. Let's see what the future holds.

Also in slushy situations, a user talked about this getting stuck in mud and putting additional strain on vehicle and holding its move. Even if you get out, there is going to be tremendous strain on suspension and engine plus transmission since this part will be ploughing through mud.
From someone in the know:

Quote:
This suspension mount is an unsprung part and it will go over rocks along with the tyre and the axle. Now, if the tyre avoids the rock and this takes the hit, the under part of the mount is engineered in a way that it is deformable. It will not cause a restriction to rocks.

And the size is not enough for it cause a restriction in slush/sand.

Having owned the Roxx for close to two weeks, no complaints whatsover from my family, comprising my wife, 4 yo son and 75 yo dad. We are coming from a 2018 Honda City. If you are looking at a purely logical decision, as mentioned in earlier post, there are alternatives which provide better FE, comfort, ergonomics, etc.

I wasn't sure if I will be able to keep as a single car, but now I am confident that for my use case I won't have any issues; except for minor compromises, but then you will have to make some compromise or the other in any car.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Booked the AX7L 4x4 D AT Red or Grey with Mocha Interiors today at Sireesh Bommasandra, Bangalore. Initially thought of going for the Burnt Sienna colour, but after the SE showed some delivery photos, had second thoughts and flipped.
Need help here, Red or Grey, which to go for? I know colour is purely subjective but just wanted to know "like minded" opinions..!

I booked grey after looking at all the available colors. Grey & White seem subtle colors compared to others on offer

But think about a rocky trail or water crossings where there are different size boulders everywhere, I can think of multiple situations where it can be a issue. We have seen multiple cases of XUV700 lower suspension bulge part being deformed due to hits, now consider people buying Roxx will take it to much tougher conditions. Honestly I don't not buy the argument that even if it hits there will be no damage, how is that mechanically even possible.

While I do not subscribe to majority of views of this YTuber but it demonstrates the issue of the suspension arm causing issues in sinking mud.

As more and more real life videos will come out, will get to know better actual capability of the vehicle.

Ok, I get your point. Your statement is about Thar, my question is about its suitability as an everyday car. As far as difficult routes like Leh and Spiti circuits are concerned, Ecosport has been able to negotiate them pretty well. But they're in no way a big test on the capabilities of a vehicle anymore, atleast not for last 5-7 years or so.

However, there's a limit to what front wheel drive cars can manage. I have no doubt that a Thar Roxx can manage difficulties, but my focus is on realizing whether it can manage to do everyday duties keeping its passengers comfortable and driver entertained over a longer period of time. So, in a way I am looking forward to the long term ownership review that can shed more light on the areas of concern I have listed.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I have booked MX3 Petrol Automatic. I already have Seltos Diesel AT which is my daily driver. However Thar Roxx Petrol fuel efficiency figures are worrying me lately.

My annual run on Thar will be around 10000 KM. I feel MX3 Petrol Automatic is very well priced. MX3 Diesel Automatic costs around 2.75 L more than MX3 Petrol AT. I find this his price difference is very attractive, especially when this Petrol - Diesel price difference in MX5 and AX7L is about 50-70k only.

What are your views?
