Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-screenshot_20241114_192931_youtube.jpg

Came across a youtube video wherein 3 AX7Ls, all 4X4 were getting delivered in Gurgaon.

Who says AX7Ls are not available

I made two bookings with the same dealer - one offline and the other one online on Oct 3rd at 11:01 a.m. and I'm having hard time getting a favorable response from the dealer.

I think they are the dealers of Mahindra getting it for themselves. The video had an opposite take, that even dealers are not able to get the vehicle early 😊

I also contacted by dealer but seem like the situation is a bit fluid. M&M doesn't seem to be enforcing any order. In any case AX7L 4x4 AT is not in stock.

Also did another test drive on the right variant (AX7L 4x4 AT),
  • Ride is jiggly but not a deal-breaker, can be lived with! (I come form sedans and hatches)
  • The Diesel engine even in this tune is not really fast (not slow either, but Doesn't feel close to 180bhp) so best driven relaxed,
  • The AT box does not allow upshift before 2k rpm in manual mode.
  • Till about 80-90kmph the car was very stable and silent.
  • Senior citizens with a will can manage to climb in
  • Still got Bolero like vibe from some angles.
  • Steering is easy and smooth.
  • Brakes are decent at speed but too jumpy at stopping speeds. (will take getting used to)
SLK is online now   (4) Thanks

My guess is they are removing Apple Carplay from the recent production batches of the Roxx. Compatibility has to be tested and certified with Apple and it is a long process taking up to 10 months:

https://mfi.apple.com/en/how-it-works

Since the Infotainment system is new (and not re-used from existing established models like the XUV 700), M&M would have to work through the entire process before they can declare the product to be Apple carplay enabled. Premature use of this label prior to full certification may have punitive consequences from Apple. The initial few batches of Roxx's seemed to have Carplay installed, based on reading the owner posts on this forum. Apple may have objected and M&M may have removed the un-certified software. If this is the case, even existing instances of the app present in the first few batches may be deleted during software update. But I would fully expect the feature to be back once the certification process is complete during a subsequent system update.

Thanks a ton to GTO, in his long list he did mention an important point to get others in the family to do a test drive which helped. Will plan the 3-door at a later stage but as of now it's the XUV700 Midnight Black!

The test drive vehicle may not be maintained in the perfect condition wrt tyre pressure etc. In a M&M vehicle the perfect tyre pressure and N2 filling does have a significant impact on the riding comfort. Try riding the TD vehicle with 32/ 33 psi or try a friend/ colleague/ relatives vehicle (if possible) and it might change your outlook - don't reject the Roxx just after the first ride.

You cannot compare the Roxx with the XUV700 - they belong to two completely different segments - one is monocoque and the other os BOF. They display very different characters because of their structure. If you go through the XUV700 review thread, you will find that the most common complain is with the suspension. Many of the owners still complain that the XUV suspension is noisy.

If you are not comfortable with the ride quality of the Roxx, then the 3D Thar is even worse.

In M&M, the cars are alloted in the name of the customer at the time of despatch from the plant. It is very difficult for the dealer to play any mischief without genuine reason. The GM-Sales at the dealership should have a clear picture of the delivery schedule. During the last week of every month the dealership receives information about the schedule deliveries of the next month. This information should be available with the GM-Sales of the dealership and the Sales Advisors may not be aware of this information.

Every dealership has an Area Sales Manager attached with it, who is an employee of M&M and reporting to Customer Relationship Manager at the plant. If any of you are in the dark about your delivery schedule, then you can contact the ASM and get a clear picture from him.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Hi all,

I had booked my Thar Roxx MX5 D 4*4 Black through my dealer in Alleppey, Kerala on the bookings open date. I was getting full updates from my SA at the dealership after booking. I got updated that the vehicle is invoiced on 15th and was being informed that I will get delivery on 25th of October. I was at Mumbai due to work related engagements. So me and wife planned to fly on 25th to Kerala and take delivery and drive it back to Mumbai.

The Experience

As planned, we took a flight to Kochi and reached the show room by 10 am on 25th. The delivery experience was smooth which took hardly 30 mins. The SA explained all details and handed over the keys with a photoshoot. Took the vehicle to nearest Indian Oil petrol pump and filled to its full capacity.

We started from Alleppey in Kerala and started our journey towards Mumbai by 12 afternoon. Took the Salem-Hosur-Kolhapur-Pune route and reached Mumbai by 27th evening very comfortably.

The Drive Experience

At delivery, the ODO was at 15 km and when I reached Mumbai it stood at 1721 kms.
I got 15 km/hr mileage for the drive. I drove in a comfortable speed during my entire drive with top speed being 100km/hr and never raised RPM above 2000 during the drive.
The steering is super light and also gives enough confidence on high speeds during Highway drive. The drive is slightly bumpy even on small potholes, which was expected. I had owned a 3 door Thar so I felt current one is slightly better. The high driving position gives you a perfect commanding view of the road.

Currently the ODO is at 2100 km and I did the first free service at Bhavana Automobiles, Nerul. Pretty happy with the vehicle and expecting much more trips soon.

Isn't Mappels available? I find Mappels sufficient incase one doesn't plan to use Android Auto or Car Play, plus it gives in dash screen also in ScorpioN

In my case both, the GM-Sales from the dealership (Anant Cars, Bangalore) and the Area Sales Manger from Mahindra, a guy named Swathik Hariharamoorthy have been on emails right from October 27 (looped in by Mahindra customer care), and neither has bothered responding to a single email of mine.

Probably it is my frustration which made me put that point of view, because, honestly I didn't see any other reason why these two people would remain silent despite me sending them atleast 10 emails.

I even send this Swathik guy an Inmail on Linkedin

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Not very often do you get to play with your prized possessions in a guilt free manner which instantaneously transforms you into a child, making one forget the world around you and live in those blissful moments. This is what happened yesterday when I had the opportunity to take my friend's ROXX for a test drive in and around Chennai. The ROXX is lot more plush, has a fantastic diesel engine and Automatic transmission, the NVH is also superb. If there is one area that I may crib it was the driver's seat under thigh support, apart from that, it was fantastic vehicle to drive. I will let the pictures talk the rest as to how much we enjoyed

No car play in this variant only in AX versions.
Android Auto only available.

I got a used android phone for using android auto until we get the update or not.( most probably not as removed from features list)
Maybe get a magsafe type car mount for iphone the magnets are pretty strong and the phone mounts easily.

I guess it was the AX variants to have the apple car play activated in some vehicles even though it stated coming soon.
MX variants did not have Carplay from the beginning altogether.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

The specs of Thar Roxx in Mahindra website is confusing..

I was thinking to change my booking from MX3 P AT 2WD to AX 5L D AT 2WD.

I wanted to the see the engine power of the AX5L and when I select the AX5L DAT 2WD and click on view all specifications from the website the AX5L DAT 2WD has a 111.9kW/330Nm Engine. The higher tuned engine is only on the 4WD AX5L.

Now when I download the brochure from website, the AX5L DAT 2WD has a 128.6kW/370Nm Engine, (the higher tuned engine is on both on 2WD and 4WD on AX5L). See below screen shot of both:

Am I understanding this wrongly or the documents really has an error?
