re: Mahindra Thar - The Tyre & Wheel upgrade thread

Might get allocation for AX7 and it comes with 19Inches. I looked upon at my reserves and found this at home 285/60/18 BF

Now what's my best option-

1 Buy 18 inches OE alloys from Mahindra or perhaps ask them to interchange with 19- am sure they will be able to upsell it to someone.
2 Buy after market alloys- what brand/ design should I look at?

1. Check offset, test fit to see if they sit well in the Roxx's arch.
2. Made-in-India 'Fuel' options are VFM. Check with Pahiya4x4.

10-11 kmpl with mixed usage on zoom mode with a heavy right foot on the highway.
7-9 kmpl in city.
And tank to tank method on highway gave me 10.6 kmpl.

3. Checkout a reputed tyre shops near your place and see if you can get Roxx alloys from them. I have been quoted 35K for 4x18inch ROXX alloys.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

An Interesting Conversation with the GM of Mahindra's Dealer in Bangalore

I thought I’d share a recent interaction I had with the GM of the Mahindra dealership here in Bangalore. It was a relief to finally connect with someone senior, though I suspect the attention might have been prompted by a post I made on X (https://x.com/_smithesh/status/1859499296699318402?s=08).

The Context

I’m yet to receive any SMS or email from Mahindra regarding the tentative delivery date for my AX7L 4X4 Diesel in Everest White with white interiors. My Booking ID is B-9996939 (no point hiding the digits, as that defeats the purpose of sharing for transparency).

For reference, Mahindra’s booking IDs appear to follow a sequence, as a booking I made just 45 seconds later has a B-9997 series ID. So, logically, a First-In-First-Out (FIFO) process should ensure my booking is prioritized. But as you’ll read, logic seems to be a scarce commodity in this entire process.

The Conversation

The discussion began with the GM explaining the 70-week delivery timeline for the Roxx, emphasizing how challenging it is to provide definitive timelines. While this is understandable for newer bookings, it didn’t make sense in my case, especially since my booking was made within the first minute of the first day and the FIFO approach should, theoretically, see my vehicle delivered this year.

Here’s where things got intriguing:

Delayed Production Ramping:
The GM mentioned that production of the AX7 series is expected to ramp up only in January next year. In other words, don’t expect deliveries in 2024. This contradicts Mahindra’s earlier claims of prioritizing early bookings.

Negative Feedback on White Interiors:
According to the GM, Mahindra believes there’s been a lukewarm response to the white interiors, so they’re focusing on ramping up Mocha Brown interiors instead. This seemed bizarre to me—if I specifically selected white interiors, shouldn’t they honour that preference?

December Delivery Slowdown:
Mahindra apparently feels customers avoid December deliveries due to depreciation concerns for year-on-year resale. But this reasoning feels flawed. If anything, most customers (me included) are clamouring for earlier deliveries. Only a handful might choose to wait for 2025 registrations.

Communication from Plant:
The GM candidly admitted that even the dealership struggles to get firm updates from Mahindra’s plant. Apparently, the production plant directly communicates allocation updates to customers via SMS or email. However, this doesn’t align with other reports from members on this forum who’ve mentioned receiving allocation updates via their dealers.

In summary, despite my hopes for clarity, I left the conversation without any concrete commitments.

And someone in the know said dealers have all the tricks and ways and even folks in Mahindra are unable to help for genuine cases.

I agree you were given some usual mumbo jumbo to cover up the inefficiency and malpractices involved in the whole process. But I guess this is not just limited to Mahindra, almost all brands have such vague methods that I still prefer going via a dealer, so that there is atleast a face to punch when needed

The usual ones, your take on 1) The ride quality, is it liveable as a primary car. 2) The seat comfort - may be a comparison with another car in the segment.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

I have booked both Petrol (4x2) and Diesel (4X4 Mocha Int) Top Models and my delivery estimates are Petrol (Nov 24), Diesel (April 25).

Got a call today that the Petrol model is enroute and ready for delivery next week. Chandigarh dealer still doesn't have a petrol AT for test drive so drove the Diesel 4X4 instead.

I currently drive a 3D Thar in Petrol AT and here are my observations from the 15 min. test drive:

- Diesel Engine starts up with a pronounced shake, especially noticeable when it's on auto hold ON and the vibrations it sends through are quite a bit. Also, the grunt is much louder when revved. In Comparison, the Petrol engine on the 3D Thar is much more quieter and silent and sometimes you barely notice that the car is on.
- I drove to the dealership in my 3D Thar and took the same route on the Roxx and didn't notice a big difference on cruising speeds (40-60 KMPH
). Maybe it was over-inflated tyres but the SA couldn't figure out how to show the TPMS.
- The Harman Kardon system is just about par in my opinion. Apple Carplay was not available, so had to pair via bluetooth and I played some Lossless audio with the default EQ settings and it was very underwhelming. In Comparison I had upgraded my 3DR audio to Blum Audio speakers with a JBL subwoofer (about a 70K upgrade total) and it sounds way better than this 9 speaker system.
- ADAS worked well, and the screen display is crisp and responsive
- The 360 degree cameras have a wide field of view but are not that clear. However, this camera system is miles ahead of what toyota offers in my Hycross, so no complaints there.
- Plenty of boot space even after full recline of back seats.
- I had heard of the lack of door space for bottles, but seeing it in reality is another thing. I think you can barely fit a bottle of small 250 ML Coke bottle or a small can in this space.
- White interiors are so hard to keep clean, especially the headliner and grab handles.

So I've run the numbers on both the top models (Petrol and Diesel) - See attached numbers and the total on-road cost difference is about 3L (Chandigarh)

My average running will be around 7000 KM/Year so I'm not so worried about fuel efficiency, but i thought it's still worthwhile to run the numbers over a 5 year ownership period to see if it makes a difference.

Option 1: Is to buy the petrol and forgo the 4X4 option. I'm not really a hard core off-roader and the max I might drive this is Chandigarh to Leh and the roads are pretty good and wouldn't require any 4X4.

Option 2: Wait another 5 months for the Diesel but also there's a risk of M&M jacking up the price by another 50K by then.

Any comments/thoughts by the gentlemen here would be appreciated. Especially if someone has test driven both petrol and diesel AT variants?

Please note that the insurance numbers and FE numbers are estimates.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

An additional 50K (potentially) when the overall cost of ownership is 30L isn't much really. You will get brown interiors and a 4x4.

Assuming you don't have an issue with diesel engines refinement and if you can wait, then you should imo.

Not sure what you meant by additional 50K. The diesel 4X4 is 3L more expensive than the petrol. And there's the time based factor as well. Waiting 5 months for the diesel 4X4 could possible be an additional rate hike.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

My AX7L doesn't have Apple Carplay, the option is simply absent from infotainment while I noticed that some AX3L and AX5L owners here have the option. Can any AX7L owner confirm if they have it or not?

Same here. SA said it would be rolled out later.
