Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Friends,

My car arrived at dealer and probably, delivery will be tomorrow. MX3 P AT.

They’ve quoted rs 64100 as insurance premium.

Can a MX3 P AT owner please share the premium you paid ?

And if possible, can you pls share the picture of your insurance policy, so I could compare that with what they’re offering me and try to close on it ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Yes, 1.2 for set of 5 in size 18 Inches. I like the simpler design so this choice. Some of the more flashier ones are cheaper - less than 90.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

My Stealth Black MX3 P AT Thar Roxx was delivered on 27/11/2024 and since there are quite a few questions, I decided to create this post. Let me start with the most important bit. Here's what I paid:

To Koncept Mahindra:
  • Ex-Showroom: 14,99,999
  • TCS: 14,990
  • Registration: 1,21,560
  • Extended Warranty (4/5yrs): 37,020
  • Official Accessories (Mud Guards and Bottom Door Cladding): 3,860

To TATA AIG
Insurance: 74,168 (3yr Third Party AND 3yr Own Damage Insurance with tons of addons). It was about 70,000 for just Engine Protection and Zero Dep so I decided to go all in with the addons.

Other Accessories + Addons
  • 4x MX5 Alloys: 36,000 (Mili Tyre Plaza: https://g.co/kgs/3yqg7Re). 5x 3D Thar Alloys were 22,500
  • 12D Mats: 3,500 (Auto Classic: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pcsNW454Pd2HqE4Y8) 7D were 2,000. Google Reviews dont do justification for how massive and crowded this shop is.
  • Treel JK Tyres TPMS with Wheel balancing and alloy switch: 4,500 https://g.co/kgs/g5mpwFb There is an iOS and Android App that works fine and is displayed on the screen while using Android Auto or Carplay
  • Ceramic Coating: ~25,000 Lords of Detailing Gurgaon (https://maps.app.goo.gl/ozXS82YEkiUQPJe29) This is the flagship store and the final price may vary depending on what package you choose
  • 70mai A810 Dual-Channel Dashcam from Amazon. You can also go with A510 or M200 if youre on a budget. Whatever dashcam you get, just ensure it has Starvis 2 lens
  • Carlinkit CarPlay Android Auto Wireless Adapter from Amazon. MX3 doesnt have wireless carplay so this will be helpful

Future Mods / Accessories
  • Auto-Fold OVRM
  • 5th Alloy once I can get smaller rear camera housing from Mahindra
  • Rear parcel tray
  • Projectors for Fog Lamps

Here are some thoughts and observation and my overall experience:
  • Initially the salesperson pushed for minimum of Rs 20,000 accessories and mandatory extended warranty, but once I put my foot down, it went smoothly. The updated invoice (after I told her I just want my car that Mahindra has allocated to me and absolutely nothing else) had just 4 items (Ex-Showroom, TCS, Insurance and Registration)
  • I went for the warranty anyways but I wanted it to be my own choice and not forced into it
  • Koncept couldnt match my TATA AIG quote so I got the insurance by myself
  • My Roxx is manufactured in 11/2024 and my Booking ID was B-9996237. My tentative delivery timeline was 10 Nov - 11 Dec 2024
  • I initially wanted to get 3D Thar alloys on the ROXX and paint them black (or bronze) but there was some confusion regarding the PCD values, and I decided to give up on the idea
  • Also the MX5 alloys look wonderful on Stealth Black ROXX since thats the only chrome my Thar has (I will remove the badging on the car)
  • Roxx feels like 2-Gen leap over the 3D Thar. Everything from how the key-fob click feels to the steering wheel feels like a massive massive massive upgrade. I wrote massive thrice to emphasise how massive the upgrade is
  • But that other than the touchscreen and the roof lining. The touch response is fine, but I prefer the layout and greyscale color scheme of the stereo unit of the 3D Thar and the roof liner on my Roxx was sagging at the time of delivery
  • I just can't believe that this car is on-road under 17L and cheaper than a Creta Automatic!!
  • Also, I would happily pay a premium of 2-3L over MX3 for a Panaromic Sunroof but I couldn't justify paying over 22L for a Panaromic Sunroof varient of ROXX. Imo, thats too deep in XUV700 category
  • Visibility is absolutly fantastic. I am not sure if we sit higher than we do in 3D Thar but I have suddenly grown taller, but I can see much more of the bonnet in my Roxx
  • At the time of delivery, the car mileage was showing 5.8kmpl. I expect this to have 7-9kmpl in the city because my 3D was 8-10kmpl in the city
  • I got the car at 66km and after just 10km, my reaction was: I wish there was a 3 door version of this vehicle
  • Whoever decided at Mahindra that MX3 should have fabric seats, 4x disc brakes, and 6 Airbags; THANK YOU. I forgive you for the skipping TPMS and wireless carplay
  • Also, Mahindra people if youre reading this and planning for the 3D Thar upgrade, please make a 4X4 MX3 variant with exactly the same engine, gearbox, chasis, and features on the ROXX variant
  • I will recieve my car after ceramic coating tomorrow and then over the weekend I have a 300km trip planned. Will share more feedback then

I sold this beauty earlier this month:

Call Tata AIG yourself and get a quote from them. Without many addons you can get 3+3yr insurance for 70,000 while mahindra will quote 60-65K for 3+1yr insurance. I paid 74000 for 3+3yr insurance with tons of addons

There was lot of doubt about the PCD and even the Mahindra Showroom people had no clue. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the Chrome Alloys look pretty great with black.

Few inquisitive queries:

1. Do you feel lack of acoustic windshield in MX3 is noticeable in overall in cabin experience while driving?
2. Are you planning to upgrade to new seat covers? MX3 comes with black fabrics with airbags, so is upgrading to aftermarket seat covers is a compromise with safety?
3. How would you rate sound of the 4 speaker set in MX3?
4. How good are the mud flap accessory, I read somewhere in this thread that they are a poor fit. Any misfit would not only defeat it's purpose but would also be an eyesore as well.

I booked MX3 PAT myself but in white and is waiting on further update from either M&M or their dealership. My delivery dates are Feb-Mar2025. So any piece of information would really appreciated.

TIA.
1. Frankly, so far its been fine. The cabin quality is far far superior to 3D Thar so I cant complain regarding the lack of acoustic windshield
2. I prefer fabric over faux leather
3. 7/10. But I listen to audible while I am travelling (which is 90% of the time), so cant complain about them much
4. I will get the mudflaps installed tomorrow after the ceramic coating and then I have a 300km trip planned this weekend. I will be able to give you a better feedback then

I think I have answered all your questions. Let me know if you have any other queries

The tyres are the same. I just got MX5 alloys from the source above. These are the mats from the source mentioned above. The 7D Mats were similar quality but slightly thinner.

Its 70k for 3yr TP and 3yr OD insurance with Zero Dep and Engine Protection.

I am assuming you paid 46K for 3+1yr insurance? TATA AIG for 3+1 was about 44,000.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

@Vellatechie - thanks for sharing all the details. When you get some time, could you please elaborate a little on the below:
1. Roof liner sagging - what was this due to and how was this fixed? Was it a proper fix or some jugaad / compromise? If the MX3 were to cost even less, these things aren't supposed to be there in a new car.
2. Whatever little you have driven the car, how does the petrol engine and the AT transmission feel?

That's better. Did you get it done on your own by contacting AIG or did the dealer help?

Even mine has a small hump below the handle (passenger side) but I haven't paid much attention.

Mahindra Thar Roxx Review-whatsapp-image-20241128-18.17.50.jpeg

The overall cabin feel is very premium. And the seating posture is addictive. I tried Rubicon at least 4 times recently and did not buy it because something or the other was not working out. I guess everyone expects quality in proportion to the price. So my expectations from Roxx are very low.

The quality of certain parts on Roxx is very cheap and will fail as against some very sturdy built of Wrangler, but the overall ambience and the lack of comforts like seat ventilation as well the small footwall were the deal breakers for me.

  1. I will take this to Mahindra tomorrow and it you know. Right at the middle of the roof, when I press the liner it moves about 4 inches. I dont think there should be that much movement. But I am not worried since it's Mahindra. I had tons of issues with my 3D Thar and they managed to fix every single one of them.
  2. The engine and the overall experience is much more refined. With better interiors, visibility, light steering and insulation, the overall experience is far superior to 3D Thar.

I took a quote from TATA AIG and then shared it with my service advisor and asked her to match it. She quoted me 90K with way less addons.
I told her that this isn't the first time I have purchased a Mahindra and she should either match it or I will take it directly from TATA. She asked me to get the insurance done myself.

Congratulations !
Can you please share how did you get the dashcam installed as there is no 12v socket in the front.

Also can you share how does this Carlinkit adapter work ? Because Android Auto is already wireless and Apple Carplay has been removed so does this adapter makes the Carplay working ?

Thank you

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Does anyone have a clue on what size speakers are there in the front and rear in the MX variants.
I want to upgrade the speakers on my Mx5 speakers as sound quality is not that impressive.
Speaker suggestions , tips from audiophiles are also welcome
Thank you

I think 6.5 inch.
My recommendations Morel MK-II , very good for 6k-7k budget per pair.
I will most probably go with them again in my Roxx

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

To all the owners of MX3, do you plan to change the headlamps for the upper variants DRL headlamps?

Has anyone got to know the price quote for the same?

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

One among the very few Roxx modifications that seems to have been tastefully done, I quite like the black roof liner, black grab handles and the seat covers with added cushioning, attempting to solve the thigh support issue that many have pointed-out. Its in Malayalam, but, I guess you can mute the audio and simply watch the video which is self-explanatory. At one point, you can pause to have a closer look at how the rear camera looks with the spare alloy - it doesn't protrude much making it look nice and acceptable.

I could not find any images for the suspension on the current Thar but on Roxx, this looks similar to Hilux, is this due to BOF design or did Mahindra benchmark Hilux? .
