Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Here is the playlist which Mahindra DIY on Youtube channel has uploaded for Thar Roxx features. Looks like a good effort to get users acquainted with various features.

My interpretation of the referenced brochure page is that it follows the column between the Specification and Variant Matrix sections. In that case, only the 4x4 variants are getting 128.6 kW/370 Nm.

I was thinking to change my booking from MX3 P AT 2WD to AX 5L D AT 2WD.

I wanted to the see the engine power of the AX5L and when I select the AX5L DAT 2WD and click on view all specifications from the website the AX5L DAT 2WD has a 111.9kW/330Nm Engine. The higher tuned engine is only on the 4WD AX5L.

Now when I download the brochure from website, the AX5L DAT 2WD has a 128.6kW/370Nm Engine, (the higher tuned engine is on both on 2WD and 4WD on AX5L). See below screen shot of both:

Am I understanding this wrongly or the documents really has an error?
So one thing we clarified from the Bangalore dealership is that the AT version of 4WD gets a higher tune of Engine - 172/173 PS and 370 nm torque. Manual 4WD get the 160/330 combo only, even if you go for AX7 (I find that strange). Its top of the line and they should have offered higher tuned engine.

I currently a 3D Thar (Petrol Manual) and the test drive vehicle was AX7 Manual, meaning the 160/330 one. I did not feel any lag at all, overtaking was a breeze in Bangalore traffic.

Try to get the mobile number of the ASM and talk with him or meet him at the showroom, when he is available.

If you're still not satisfied you can mail to kharga(dot)asha(at)mahindra(dot)com and narrate your issues. She is Head of CRM at M&M and probably you should get a reply. A lot of the M&M top guys are available in twitter. You can narrate your issues in twitter to M&M CC and tag some of the top guys.

Yes. My AX5L has Wireless Apple Car Play and it is working smoothly. Hope they don't update the software and remove it when I take her for the first service.

Thanks. Thus only the 4x4 versions of the AX5L & AX7L gets the 128.6kW engines, and all others in diesel gets the 111.9kW engines. Is this power difference really noticeable in your day to day driving? Also does the modern day diesels has problems if not driven for long period of time? Being an NRI my yearly driving will only be around 5K Kms and 4 to 5 times in a year when I am back home.

The Petrol MX3 I have booked is a value for money option with the on road price, has a higher powered engine and 4 disc brakes. Put alloys, fog lamps and a phone holder for carplay and you are good to go. You can also avoid the white interiors. My only concern is its resale value if I decide to sell the car in 2 to 3 years in case of any niggle issues or if I am not happy with the ride quality in the long run. Therefore I have also made a booking for AX5L 4x2 diesel auto with the second dealer in Kochi.

Still confused which one to go for. Any advise from experts will be appreciated.

MX3 P AT is the most value for money option in my opinion. Petrol Thars do tend to have lower fuel efficiency and lower resale value compared to diesels. But how the scenario will be after 4-5 years is very difficult to predict in view of current government's attitude towards diesel.

The 4.5 lakh price difference between MX3 P AT and AX5L D AT is too much.

P.S. : Invest the same amount elsewhere and we should have enough returns after 5 years to cover up any potential losses in fuel efficiency and resale price.

Who says AX7Ls are not available

I made two bookings with the same dealer - one offline and the other one online on Oct 3rd at 11:01 a.m. and I'm having hard time getting a favorable response from the dealer.
I am facing similar challenge. While I have the details of my online booking, the dealer is simply ignoring my calls and messages about the delivery schedule for the offline booking.
I had booked the ScorpioN way before the ROXX launch on sales advisor's suggestion on the pretext that whenever Thar 5D will be launched, thye will convert my booking and consider priority delivery.

You should go for the MX3 Petrol Auto for a number of reasons:
  • Sheer VFM - On-road price difference between MX3-P-AT and AX5L-D-AT will be close to 6 lakhs on road. The feature set difference does not justify that kind of premium. MX3 has almost everything you need and you can add alloys, fog lamps and a set of seat covers for around 75K.
  • You get the full power engine in the P AT and detuned version of Diesel engine in AX5L D AT as you have mentioned.
  • The FE difference is negligible in your case as you drive so little
  • If you are looking to sell after 4-5 years, Diesels are going to get a progressively bad name year by year due to emission regulations and you may find Petro has higehr resale value than diesel at that point.
  • Most importantly, Diesels are meant to be driven long distances every day. They just do not like being left unused for longer periods, Petrol engines handle long idle periods better.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

So, did PDI of my AX7L D AT today. Is there anything specific I should keep in mind?
Also noticed that my car has Ceat Crossdrive AT tyres, are they good? My general experience with Ceat hasn't been very good. If not, any other recommendations?

Congratulations! I had these tyres on my Thar 3 door, didn't face any challenge, they are good.

When did you book and was the delivery in line with official communication from Mahindra.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Dear Fellow BHPians,

Thanks for posting very detailed experiences, have been following this thread since beginning. I booked AX7L P AT on opening day itself within one minute.

After doing multiple test drives and uncertainty on the delivery timelines, I am somehow feeling whether Roxx would be comfortable for me or not. My other option is Seltos Xline DCT. My primary usage would be in the City, we are a young couple in late 20s and this would be our primary car with probably 3-4 road trips a year and yearly 10k on ODO. I'm driving a freestyle now which I plan to sell.

All of my tds are in city with a tire pressure of 34-35 psi. I felt it to be somewhat shaky when compared to the monocoques probably due to high . Is the body roll really unliveable on highways? can someone please shed light on highway experience in cruising speeds between 100KMPH and 120KMPH.

My heart says Roxx but my head says Seltos... please share your thoughts

Given that you intend to do road trips and might have a family member or two joining in your years of ownership, you might want to consider the bodyshell integrity of the Seltos which is rated as unstable and unfortunately, even 6 airbags won't change that.
