Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

I am very excited when Pankaj sent me the pictures, post assembly of the bonnet and grill. You will now get a sense of the car.

The cleaning and rubbing is happening. The final polish will happen after the complete car is ready.

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

Visited to paint shop to check out the car with Dad and Pankaj.

Here is my father inspecting the car

You can see the fantastic paint booth infrastructure behind the car
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-1-4.jpeg

The slow hardener and baking in the Paint booth has given very good results

This is the finish before the final polish!

When my wife chose the colour scheme, she had impressed upon us as to how the white and black contrast would make the car appear longer than what she actually is.

I am very happy with the outcome.

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

It is amazing what you have accomplished, painstakingly, in two odd years and change. The two tone looks stunning. Cant wait to see a full album of photos including the interiors, dashboard, engine et al. The previous owner, Mr. Raman, must be smiling from above observing how well you have restored his love. Congratulations.

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

What a lovely old car and what a marvellous job of restoration you have done! It probably goes without saying that it will feature in most of the restoration publications here and abroad - and deservedly so.

I look forward to the restored interiors & engine bay once they are ready to be unveiled! I envy you KPS

Thank you very much for your kind comments. Raman would be have surely approved the work we have done to restore this wonderful car.

Had debated with a few friends, to keep the original combination (though originally the yellow strip was more creamish), but went ahead to change the colour to reflect the change in ownership too! My wife being an artist in her own right, has the ability to pick the best colour combination, as we went through the various options. She and Pankaj were able to discuss and firm up the colours percentages in one meeting, after looking at a few samples!

Thanks shashanka for following my restoration. I am waiting to complete this project. The car would come into Christopher's garage by late next week and it is expected to be ready in the next 2 months.

Red leather upholstery and matching red pinstripe will further brighten the car.

Cheers

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

The car finally made its way back to Rodrick Restorations. We will need another 2 months to complete the car from here.

Having been born and brought up in Mysore, the cars of the Mysore Royal family have always piqued my interest. An opportunity to restore a Royal Mysore car is definitely a dream come true. This car has the added distinction of having been Raman's pride and joy, and is now in the custody of KPS & family, and that makes it all the more special.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work on this car. I have thoroughly enjoyed the discussions with Prithvi Uncle on how paint systems have evolved, the discussions with KPS on the history of the car, and the pin point precision with which KPS' wife asked for the formulation of the paint shade and modified it by suggesting percentage changes of base colours !

Firstly, I must thank KPS and his family for the opportunity of being a part of their journey with this car.
I thank Chris for all the co-operation and support these past few months.
I must also thank the good folk at Hindustan Paints, Bangalore for their tireless efforts on the paint material for this car.

I will miss seeing the Daimler at my workshop , and look forward expectantly to see her on the road soon.

Pankaj, we cannot thank you enough for your commitment to this car. We feel very privileged that you gave your invaluable time to monitor this project personally.

The marquee, ownership history, various discussion with family and friends and commitment to the restoration by all of us has enhanced my ownership experience.

BHpians, thebulletboy, Srinand and Vanam have been major support. Sharing information and details of the car on Team BHP and the fantastic response keeps me motivated

Here is a picture of Srinand, pushing the car to the Paint Booth! This is reflection of the commitment and excitement all of us share in this rebuild.

As we enter the last leg of this restoration, hopefully will be able to post pictures more frequently.

Thank you all for the support.

Cheers

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

The engine work is in progress at Rodricks Restoration.

Just in awe at the systematic way Chris goes about his work. There is a dedicated engine room and one engine at a time, means that everything is done the way it should be!

The block in its original grey colour

I love the way that the car is evolving. Did you pick up spare gaskets or any such components for the future?

At the outset, the answer to your query is no. Having said that, probably, once the car is done, would sit with Chris and chalk out what spares we should procure for stocking.

Cheers

That was an absorbing walk-through! - the detailed overhaul & build-up of the engine. A heart-warming treat that such skill and dedication is there right here in our own country. And an owner who loves these old jewels the way you do!
Thanks,
Shashanka

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

Absolutely beautiful thread with the level of commitment and workmanship involved in restoring this car. Once I started going through the restoration part, I was too eager to jump to the last page to see the completely restored car and then come back to read the details. Glad I didn't do that. If I had done so and found that the restoration is still not complete, I wouldn't have had the patience and motivation to go through the entire thread line by line in one go. Hope we get a new update soon, since it's been 2 months since last update.

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

Following this thread I have no hesitation in stating that once finished, it will be India's finest Daimler in looks and performance.

We can also expect a stunning artwork to go with the car once finished
