Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

Beautiful restoration KPS! Anyway, the effort taken has been paid of
The thing that I wanted to know about is the reaction of the previous owners.
Have you taken them for a ride?
Have they read this thread?
Have they been a part of any of the stages of the restoration?
Have they seen the completed car?

C'mon give us the thrill too!

Man oh Man, Read this in one sitting. Unbelievable commitment to excellence and the attention to detail can be seen in every single word, statement, post, thread, picture.

Feeling grateful to be alive at such a time when cars like these can be restored to such levels. Feels better than when it came out of the factory!

Thank you for blessing us with this treat.

So beautiful. If you were to just make the same photos black and white, you could easily say the pictures are from the 50s.

The previous owners speak to me often, but they are very private. Will be happy to take them for a drive, should they wish to have one.

Hopefully we will meet sometime, Post - COVID for a ride!

Thanks car love. Yes the car gives me great pleasure.

We had planned for a drive to Sandur, visit the Palace, meet the Royals, share our experiences and see their cars. The car was checked and prepared for the 650 kms round trip.

Realized that I had not taken the car to the temple. Prioritized this and the car was blessed. The priest wanted a photo with the car. So I took this photo and gave him a printed copy too!

Chris, did a check up, tightening up all the bolts and adjusting the brakes. The previous weekend drive of 190 kms was important to gauge what was required.
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-2.jpg

The left track rod end was was having too much play. Fortunately the day before, the new type replacement part arrived. Changed it and did the tyre alignment again before the trip.
Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon-3.jpg

Cleaned the car before the trip. Was going have 4 passengers travelling with me.

The miles noted!

On Friday morning we left for Sandur, what turned out to a fascinating and memorable trip

Will separately write on the Sandur trip.

"New Day, Old Look" is the theme for these pictures. Taken on the Sandur-Chitradurga Highway, at a road side temple, December 2020

I would not want to get under those massive stone wheels

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

The Daimler had its first major KVCCC outing. The car had the honour of being scrutinized by the discerning KVCCC members!. She passed with flying colours!

The Rotary District 3190, the largest district in Karnataka approached KVCCC for a Polio Immunization Awareness Campaign.

The Daimler had the pride of place in the Posters

The car and the poster match!

The awareness campaign did get a major boost.

Most people asked me why the Daimler name is not seen on the car. I explained to them on the marque and the importance of the fluted radiator.

Had the pleasure of my father's brother joining us in this approx. 200 kms run.

The brothers had a good time and for my uncle it was a new experience. The rear seat comfort and the low NVH was something he was very surprise about.

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

The Daimler continues to be in the news. The efforts put into it's restoration and final outcome has ensured that car gets all the attention it richly deserves.

On the invite badges, the Daimler is there!

Re: Daimler Tales - 1947 Daimler DB18 Luxury Saloon

Happy to share with you some international recognition too!

The car has featured on the cover page of the Daimler and Lanchester Owners Club (DLOC) Bulletin, "The Driving Member (DM)". It is a honour that the car has made it to the cover page. I am mighty thrilled

Inside cover page

I have also entered with my interpretation of the "Town & Country" Theme, competition. Hopefully this will also make it to the next years DLOC's calendar.

The history of my 1947 Daimler DB18, which was part of the Mysore Maharaja fleet, was detailed in DM Volume 55 from July 2018.

The restoration of my car started in 2017 and we decided to do a complete job with a goal to do long drives in this car. We wanted this to be stock and complete in every aspect.

Having checked the net for various colour combinations, the family with my artist wife in the lead, decided to the black and white combination was the best.

Decided to go with the one of the best restorers, Rodricks Restoration for all the work but for the painting. Painting was handled by Jalopy Shop.

Parts were sources mainly from David Beales and DB18 Registrar, Graham Emmett was a source of inspiration.

Post restoration, I have done two drives of 100 and 400 miles each and the car performed flawlessly.

Would like to take this opportunity to thank my wife and father for all the support. Will let the pictures do the talking

Thank you

Subbaiah

Having featured on the cover page of DM, was also posted in the digital pages of DLOC

Makes me feel very happy for this recognition

Thank you travancore. The "Mysore" Legacy was the major motivator for the significant commitment to this restoration. Secondly, I wanted to travel around in this car, so the restoration had to be of the highest standard. I was fortunate that both Christopher Rodricks of Rodricks Restoration and Pankaj M of Jalopy Shop took full ownership of this restoration. Their commitment to the car was outstanding.
