This 1961 Select Belonging to one of the Senior Citizen member of our club. Intrestingly he is the first owner of the Car, he also in his days operated a garage. I will meet him again for the documents and manuals he is having for our reference .

As for the Car Well few things are original as came on the car, few things are missing.

Karl / Rony: few Clarification needed

1. As per the owner in 1960/ 1961 we had the option of Weber or Solex Carburettor.

2. Selects do also came with pull starter in the initilal years.

3. Battery position was on right hand side of the engine bay when viewed from the drivers seat.

4. The headlamp lens originally was magnetic mareli.

5. There was only no air box below the dashboard as in case like the Milicentos and Elegents. Jus a perforated grill to let air inside the cabin.

6. The Car did came with the elevenhunderd Badge as seen in the onother Black Select in bangalore (pics enclosed)

Hi Manish

The battery position is original, All cars in India reversed the Battery position mostly to prevent fuel from leaking onto the Battery terminals.

Its true Solex and Weber were both options in the Early Selects, but that was the case in Italy cant say about India.

The mirror is 100% Original with the wiring sleeve to mask the wire going into the body of the mirror for the light.

The original horn also seems to be peeking out from under the battery stand

I dont think Magnetti Marrelli made headlights for the select, it was still Carello replaced eventually by Lucas.

Oh I already have one, and its fixed on the car. I need to put some updated pics soon. I thought i would wait till i fixed the hubcaps before taking fresh pics. Now I just need a pull starter.

Yes the early selects did have pull starters, with Magnetti Marelli ignition keys. The air boxes I am not sure as far as I know the interior boxes continued till the Superselects. But again then I am not a Select and Superselect expert

Well I remember Aditya, the previous owner of Ravi's car showing me Magnetti Marelli key set for his Super Select (now Ravi's).He had already changed the ignition long long time ago. I was amazed!

Only very early selects had pull starters. must be late 57 early 58 at the most, and I suspect this was only in India. read the Italian ads carefully that Hrishikesh has posted and you will find one of the highlights of the new select was that came with a modern ignition setup. Maybe they used older ignitions left over from the Elegants for early cars in India, just as they had used some parts from the 1100 Nuovo on the early Elegants.

Hey, I know of this car! It was put up for sale on ebay India couple of years or more ago...here are a couple of pics. of it I'd saved then. Looksl ike the owner eventually changed his mind about selling it!
Good to see that it's bodily in a better shape now. 'wish the same colour had been retained though. Or atleast something more period.

Shyam did you save any of the interior shots? What was the asking price then?

No to both the questions I'm afraid! I didn't save the interior shot even though there was one, also of the front with the same badge on. 'dont remember the price either.

On my recent trip to Delhi I saw this restored 1100R. Current owner bought it some years back from the first owner, and had the front windscreen made to order locally as it does not fit from a Padmini (as Harit has mentioned before). Interesting, as it looks so similar!

Sorry ,

But, Seriously, I wish I had an "R" along with my other 1100's.
And surely, it would have been an exclusive FIAT for our FCCCI.
