Can you please elaborate on the specs of the engine particularly? I believe I can lay hands on a similar Herald here. Same two door version. I have seen one rusting near my home. Just need to enquire about the car.
Thanks abhi!
Well, engine is 4 cyl. OHV 948cc.

Good luck on the Herald you're trying for. Any pics. you can post of it? So we could maybe guide on you on what to look out for in the car etc...

Anyways, here's further updates- left side scraped nearly completely, and part of the rear roof too. More rust spots and filler jobs seen! Also seen is the closed hole for the fuel tank filler, and some shoddy welding job on the rear wing. It started to rain just after I took these pics. today, and I left shortly later.

Not touched them yet, sir! Engine's quite well. Gearbox would need to be worked on, clutch plate is said to have gone. Once the body is off the chassis, planning to get suspension done too.

Ok hope to see some more reguler updating with pictures .Thought of changing the tie-rod ends and changing the brake linings? How about getting new wheel cylinders and a master cylinder or servicing the old ones ?

'had been there today, workshop was closed and my camera batteries were down, so no pics. But the whole body as of today, has now been scraped fully of the paint. Except part of the front bumper and grille surround. 'will post pics. tomorrow. Also I've felt that it's better to post an update when there is major work done every time with atleast half a dozen pics. to post rather than just 1 or 2.

2 of the wheels have got new wheel cyl. kits. The remaining are to be done. Tie-rod ends I do have a few new ones. Brake liners may have to be imported if needing replacement.

Ok i suggest you get all of them since you are stripping down the car.You don't need to import liners because they are available in rolls and you are ment to use the old shoes and take of the old linings and rivett on the new ones.Ask around where it is available. It was commonly done on fiats and ambys as well.Try and get is possible new shock absorbers.

OK, will do.

Speaking of new shocks, your father, when we'd last spoken, did tell me he had seen a pair of brand new herald shocks at a spares shop there! 'forgot to follow up with him since!
Could you ask him about them , if they are still available?

OK all, as per Indrojit's request, here is a relatively regular update- with more pics.!!

As you can see, the body is nearly completely stripped off of the paint and trim, and also dismantling of smaller panels has commenced. The rear bumper valences and guards on either side are out, as are the petrol tank and the front grille and bumperguards. The rear chrome guard on the right was proving quite a task to get out today, the bolts being rusted solid!
More pics. later, feeling too tired now!

More updates!! The car has been further stripped, this time of all the glass except the front one, plus quarter-windows, and all the cosmetics from outside.

The right rear bumperguard had proven rather stubborn to take off, bolts being jammed with rust. But he finally managed to get it off (carefully enough) after a lot of effort. Some of the other fittings had to be got off the same way.

With the glass and other major external fittings off, one could see the formerly hidden rusty horrors that crept into the body crevices! The rear roof deck particularly, as you can see, has had it!

No, this is not the wreck of the Titanic, it's the rear side of the underbody. The chassis outriggers (rails that hold up the rear body tub, left and right) are both intact- just!
I'm now considering having the chassis sandblasted once stripped.

Um, I'm not changing any of the glasses at all! They will be the ones that came on the car only.

I meant the rubber-beadings for the side-glasses.
