Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Thank you sir. Just an update, completed around 500 km on the Jawa and she is running beautifully. Just sprung some leaks around the collar nuts, which will soon be fixed.

Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Dear Patric/TuffyRyder,

Excellent & 5 restoration buddy.
Have not seen a bike restored with such minute detail excellence and prefection done before .

It looks like if it was rolled out of jawa factory yesterday itself.

Regards,
Ranjit

Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Cheers Ranjit. There is still a lot that need to be done on the bike. I managed to get an almost brand new left hand grip. Im still looking for the rear shox, PAL made, and a few other titbits.

Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Dear Tuffyryder,

Left hand grip? i thought the right hand grip the "jawa mutha" should be a find and as per pics of ur bike its original.
What all titbits and fine tunning is still required on the bike?

Regards,
Ranjit

Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Ranjit: Yes the right hand side grip is the original one with the jawa-cz emblem on it and is in a very good condition. The left side one that I had previously has the emblem almost completely worn out. The one I got now is a NOS.

Like i said, I need the rear shox, if possible a better tank ignition switch (just top cover), I need the PAL rectifier (not the three finned one), rear fender Jawa logo'd reflector, steering lock. After I get these fixed, Im going to probably paint my bike again. Im not satisfied with the paint job.

Dear Patric,

Steering lock is very rare to get i am also lookout for the same also the jawa logo reflector.Paint again? its looks quite stunning now why are you repeating the process again. If yes you sure have lots of patience to strip the bike again and repaint it.

Ranjit

Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Ranjith, most of the parts are hard to get for the 62 but then its not impossible. It took me 3 years to collect the spares and i managed to find some of the rarest ones, including the grips and a handle that is specific for this model. I can buy a lock off the net and is one of the easiest parts to locate actually.

Patience, yes actually. Like I said took me 3 years to collect parts and then 5 months sitting daily at the mech to get this done, so a repaint wont take long. This bike is for life and I like spending time on it.

Cheers.

Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Dear Patric,

I was referring to the availability of the steering lock in india. Are you buying spares from the MZ-Bu site?
62 model Handle how is it different from the other models can you please through some light on it.
I am also still collecting spares for restoration of my other jawa and have travelled a lot for the same when i get some leads and was lucky to get hands on some of the rarest spares.

Regards,
Ranjit

Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Ranjith: As for the availability in India for the locks, yeah that is a tough ask. No I have not bought any spares for this bike outside India except for the meter which a friend of mine imported. I have picked a few things from the net for my other jawas though.

The 62 model handle is slightly different from the later ones in terms of shape. Im not sure how to explain it but your hands feel closer to the tank. I wish I took some pictures of the difference. I will try and do it in the future.

What are the rare parts you talking about?

Rawath: There are lots of guys in the jawa club from mumbai. You shud try the yezdi yahoo forum. I wish I could help you but Im running short of handles for myself. I will look out one for you though.

Re: Restoration - 1962 Jawa Type 353 Kyvacka. EDIT : Now Completed!

Dear Patric,

The 62 till 73 bike Jawa handles have exactly the same dimensions also the same bends towards the tank housing the jawa mutha and left hand grip.

Rare spares for me includes hunting down the brand new Jikov carb, the jawa levers, the berrison accelarator cables, the milling hub spockrets , the millometer used on jawa bikes in india, the round chain cover, the rear cover cup shocks.

Regards,
Ranjit
