I have a couple more to post out of the collection, "Left pic taken Europe early 70s, right pic India around same time. Likely same car? " a 540 K previous, and Third pic comentary "This looks as tho could be ex India car. Pic early 70s, Europe, (same location as ex India late Ghost, 20HP Tourer BWP 18 and 500k Merc) no other details known" Hard to believe the 70's was fifty years ago ! My Uncle John was a bit of a hero for me growing up as he always picked us up in the most spectacular vehicles, when ever we visited London when I was young. Many Thanks to my cousin for keeping them to share all these years later. Kind Regards Duncan

Thanks so much Duncan for sharing these priceless images. The Mercedes appears to be the Bahwalpur car, I believe very low milage and totally original and unrestored. Will hunt for more recent images, I had posted them in the past.

Duncan, cant thank you enough for these treasures. Like Karl, I am convinced the 540K is the ex-Bahawalpur car. Survives in good nick.

The Rolls-Royce looks very similar to the ex-Baroda Phantom I (71RF), but is not quite the same.

Read this interesting article on royal cars yesterday.

It is said that out of the 20000 Rolls Royce made before WW1, around 20 per cent were brought by Indian royalty - most personally customised.

Facinatingly, adds Singh, "during 1900, Indian royalty invested heavily in the automobile industry with close to 100 custom made cars ordered every year. The shikar jeeps were given top priorty followed by the saloons and Rolls Royce for travel." The purchase, adds Dossa, "was always in bulk. So much so that Rolls Royce even coined phrases to identify the make and style needed by Indian royalty."

Most Popular of them being - "Doing the Mysore.

The phrase "Doing a Mysore" was coined by the executives of Roll Royce referring to the Maharaja of Mysore who bought his cars in batches of seven!

What a treasure, thanks for sharing and keep them coming! The car is 44MY, a Hooper sports tourer (Ducktail?). I believe the car is in Qatar now.

The 540K had been given by Bahawalpur to Khairpur as a wedding gift. So indeed, they shared the same "stables".

Also, looks like 44MY had been repainted from its original light green and polished aluminium. 44MY and 89MW (Jaipur) were fraternal twins.
