Thanks for your detailed response, I am exploring a lot of helmets this days, and actually wanted to buy a good helmet in both the terms of looks and quality and no I won't put videos on YT, everything is for my personal satisfaction. I understand the reluctance towards an Indian brands specially in terms of safety and good quality, but if a product is matching a standard that is set up by other countries or the countries who's product we whole heartedly recommend, I believe that it calls for a discussion, Ignyte is a brand name manufactured under Steelbird, and Steelbird is doing good in India for a long period of time, but I'll still keep your recommendations in mind.

b. should we consider an Indian made helmet (that too from a new brand) which meets ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06 certification standards?
Aren't ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06 are the most basic safety standards that a helmet should meet? Ignyte has came up with few lines of product from IGN4 to IGN8 or more, IGN 4 was 22.05 certified, whereas IGN8 is 22.06 certified.
So for me, a helmet which costs less, looks good and matches the safety standard, makes me feel a little difficult to pass on, hence I have raised the query, but mostly the feedback I receive is that it's an Indian Brand which IMO is not a feedback but a prejudice.

udzgodfather, yes, the Ignyte helmets meet these standards. There is no doubting that. And on paper, there is no reason to not go in for in. The reason that most of the veteran riders here aren't blindly jumping onto the Ignyte bandwagon is because we don't know how well the helmet holds up in day-to-day usage.

Not all the Indian branded helmets that meet ECE 22.05 standards (there was a time when this thought would have been laughed at, but look at where we are now!) age as well as some of the more expensive helmets costing 1.5x to 2x of them. There is enough feedback on this thread to show the same.

There will be TBHPians, perhaps you included, who will eventually buy Ignyte helmets and share feedback on this thread for us to learn more. Nobody is saying stay away from all Ignyte helmets, and at the same time, we don't have any proof to happily recommend them, either. I'm sure you can see the difference in the two.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

After almost 7 years, got myself yet another LS2. Did checkout MT, KYT, SMK, Axor and LS2 helmets at 2 outlets and finally bought this same helmet last week. Its a 22.06 and ISI certified helmet and even though the weight mentioned is 1500gm, the weight distribution is good so you dont feel the weight. It also comes with a tinted inner visor and a pinlock screen. Did cost me 10700/- with 1 year warranty against manf defects.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

Visited Adeshwars a couple of days back to pick helmets for me and my daughter. I picked up the LS2 Storm II Racer Titanium Fluro Orange Matt Helmet , and a White SMK Retro Jet open face for my daughter. Total cost was around 14.5k.

Cheers
How are you managing to get spares for the EXO 490? i.e Visor etc.

I have the EXO 490 and none in Bangalore (letsgearup) or Mumbai (lazyassbikers) have visor, cheek pads in stock. I was told that 490 has reached EOL.

My helmet is fine, have had no need for spares so far. I checked on Google, it seems to be available, though not in India. Who told you this model has reached end of life.

Had asked one of my friends to get a visor from UK and the store he went to said exo 490's are no longer made and you wont get stock of any spares unless someone has old stock.

I think it's only a matter of time before all manufacturers come up with Bluetooth helmets. And they should to prevent people from removing (or partially removing) helmets to take calls. Also the add on Bluetooth kits available in the market are extremely exorbitantly priced.

If you stick to the authorized distributor of LS2, I dont see any reason to worry about fakes.

In the past, few Indian importers brought in LS2 helmets meant for local China market into India as it was cheaper. LS2 meant for local China market was of different quality than for overseas(European) market. This led to confusion in Indian market for LS2 fakes, although technically those were still LS2 meant for local China market.
Many Chinese products are available with different product/material quality, every Chinese product needn't be of poor quality.

I am just wondering....(maybe too much scepticism)

What if the recent rule of mandatory ISI certification has made the situation worse? Embossing of ISI on helmet shells makes it a separate manufacturing/painting process and some, not all, manufacturers have started making inferior products as they are sure that the final product will be exported to India only.
That's a big IF.. but still a point worth noting I believe.

Re: Which Helmet? Tips on buying a good helmet

I am about to purchase Triumph Speed 400 with the delivery expected on 15th Oct. In context to that, I have started hunting out good full face helmets and have shortlisted a couple viz. Axor Apex and MT Thunder 3.

Have done a trial on them in the nearby bike accessories shop in my locality and liked both of them quite well.

W.r.t fit, I liked the Axor a bit better as it conveniently wraps around my spectacles but the MT Thunder feels quite light when put on the head and also the padding is softer compared to Apex.

Any suggestions for other brands that might be worth trying for about 5-6K?

Also, a recommendation out of these 2 that I have liked would also help.
