Whilst there is always the answer that defensive driving avoids gymnastics, the biker had no need to do anything: it was his right of way.

If he made any mistake, it was assuming that the car driver would do the right thing and wait for him.

I love the suggestion that they might have known each other! With friends like that, who needs enemies!

Another jumping the divider case. Happened couple of days back. Sadly, entire family passed away.

Relatively, Almost all of the of the vehicles jumping the divider, exactly locks head on with one or the other oncoming vehicle. The probability of a non-fatal accident/minor accident/close misses is extremely low with the cases that we have been seeing. Scary!

With Saturday being half day to school, Ravi, along with his wife and children, was proceeding to Hebbakawadi village in their Maruti Swift car (KA-01 MG-8249). While they were proceeding on Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway near Gejjalagere Colony at about 2.40 pm, the person behind the wheels of the car, in a bid to avoid ramming into a stationary car on the roadside, reportedly lost control of the car, which jumped the road divider and rammed into a KSRTC bus coming on the other side of the road resulting in all four of them being killed on-the-spot.

These reports never, ever get to the root causes.

Why did a driver have to "make a bid to avoid ramming into a stationary car on the roadside?"

In Rajasthan newspapers, any rear-ending/stationary object hit case is almost always reported as "..driver lost control trying to avoid a stray cattle and rammed into the vehicle/object in front of him/her.."

Seems like many of these reports just use a standard template, and the accident details are tweaked to fit it into the template (tyre burst accident reports are a good example).

This is another accident of a car jumping the median. It happened in Navi Mumbai on 21st July as per a twitter post. I'm not sure what caused the car to lose control. The headlights are on and so it's difficult to see where the car came from in this CCTV footage.

There's no median. It looks like an undivided road with traffic moving both ways.

That looks like a execution. The driver of vehicle just killed some helpless innocent people. RIP to the souls departed. These kind of idiots deserve hell. He inflicted unbearable loss and sorrow to the victims family.

Template reporting is alive and well here too. But it goes further than mere repetition: it is always tending to reinforce the idea that colisions with stationary objects are the fault of the stationary object.

That's not an accident or a loss of control: it's murder.

Hoping that it is attempted murder, but pessimistic. That poor woman is probably dead already.

What divider? That seems to be a two lane road. That car hits a scooter with two passengers, then the female pedestrian and then another scooter with two on board. Plain case of over speeding, probably DUI.

Disgusting scumbag of a driver. If he gets life in jail, I would consider that a very light sentence.

Oops. For some reason I thought the place where cars were parked was the other side and he had already jumped to this side in the cctv frame.
Both of you are right - thanks for the correction. It looks like he just ploughed down people

Has there been an arrest, or is it one of our ubiquitous 'driver absconding/untraceable' cases?

I found a few news articles - quite a complex situation if the reports are to be believed.
The driver was a 75 year old man. Initial reports say there may have been alcohol involved (?a carton of alcohol was recovered inside the car). The doctors said he wasn't under the influence.
There are claims he is mentally disturbed, but doctors only mention hypertension and diabetes. He is discharged from hospital and in police custody apparently.
One article said that the accident happened as the car was stuck in auto mode.

I know I shouldn't read much into 'journalism' these days, but I presume they're trying to say the throttle was stuck with the car in D/S mode (assuming it was a DSG and not an MT car)?

A tall claim to make, if unsubstantiated, as Skoda would probably not like being blamed unless there's evidence for this.

The girl who was hit head-on, might have had a chance to save herself if she wasn't distracted by [maybe her phone]. She wasn't paying attention on the road.

Whatever, sad to see people getting disabled or getting killed for no fault of their own.
