The Auto has taken a U turn in front of the bus, and after hitting the auto the front wheels are lifted. That means they have no traction, in such case the brakes will work only at a fraction of their capacity, even if the driver is fully alert, it is not mechanically possible for the driver to keep the vehicle under control.

All of these accident CCTV videos are scary to watch. While we can argue about the reasons, the videos definitely underline the message that you are only one small error away from danger while on the road. Or you could just be plain unlucky as it seems to have happened to many vehicles and pedestrians who have suffered for no fault of theirs - They just happened to be there.

A TSRTC bus, in Hyderabad, driven by a temporary driver, mowed down a 35 year old woman. If you see the video, the bus driver made no attempt to even slow down! This is murder in the first degree...

Condolences to the grieving family. Beyond the shocking news of it being a temporary (inexperienced probably) driver at the wheel, it’s the fact that these state buses are maintained in a poor condition that’s really sad. These outdated machines just don’t have sturdy mechanicals however well they’re maintained. The only option is to replace them, but then there’d be a cry about insufficient funds (really?).

I have no exact details, and don't know who did the wrong thing, but the husband of an ex-maid, and regular handyman for us, was knocked off his pedal bicycle on nearby ECR. People nearby turned away in horror as they saw the bus wheel approach his head. It missed by inches.

He suffered only bruises... and fear.

This was an accident waiting to happen due to sheer negligence on the Cop's part. The least he could have done was to wear a fluorescent jacket.

1. It was night time with obviously low visibility. The cop was wearing a black jacket and a black pant He had a white shirt on but only a small part of it was exposed towards the camera and not the bus driver. The chances of the cop going unnoticed was very high.

2. The bus was taking a turn and the cop was in the blind spot of the driver whose view is partially obscured by the front pillar and the black clad cop would have totally gone unnoticed during the turn.

For a change, a hilarious news. A man in Udupi has filed a complaint against his wife for negligent driving. She drove the car (Brezza) into a ditch. From the picture, it looks like the car toppled. Fortunately, all the six occupants including two children escaped with minor injuries.

This is typical attitude of our people- having a short-sighted approach to driving. Not having the big picture of the road ahead for atleast 100 metres.

Instead of confidently overtaking the load auto, had the Scooty rider analysed why there is a traffic jam and whether there is any vehicle from opposite lane as seen 100 metres ahead, he wouldn't have overtaken.

Also, 'do not drive towards where you cannot see'.
This applies to blind overtakes like this, poor visibility, blind curves. The Scooty rider had no view of what lies ahead in the opposite lane. Still he darted confidently to the opposite lane without being patient.

I see a similar accident pattern in these two videos.
The two wheeler tried to cross the road it seems just like the auto did blindly.

Everyday on the road, I come across many idiotic drivers and I see no end to their ever increasing numbers.

Referring to the attached post on the forum, I find it surprising that none have mentioned the solution to avoid it.
All scooters come with a brake lock. Not sure if it is designed for the very purpose of unwanted acceleration during engine idling, nevertheless works in such situations, similar to the incident posted.

I personally locked the brakes and accelerated the scooter and it worked.
Sad that these days, a lot of importance is given to discuss features and other things but not basic mechanical life saving ones like these.

We need to make it a habit to lock the brakes when the engine is idling. Please refer to attached pictures for more details.

Btw, this arrangement has been from the days of the Kinetic Honda.It is a good habit to read the owner's manual always (although, if one buys a vehicle second hand, rarely does the Owner's manual gets traded!)

FYI, lots of scooters including Yamahas comes without this brake lock.

And this was part of standard equipment since the 90s only as my Kinetic Honda had it. A very useful technique even while changing the flat tires, especially rear tire that had to be locked to loosen the nuts.
