Horrible driving at nearly every interchange.

Reversing off the main highway to a missed exit, driving the wrong way to double back, making a wide wrong-side U-turn from a service lane into the middle (sometime even the inside) lane of the main carriageway. I've even seen more than one instance of someone using all 3 lanes of the main carriageway to make a leisurely 3 point-turn to avoid paying the toll.

There is no end to driving stupidity, and innocent passengers die for no fault of theirs except being related to and/or silently tolerating said fatal stupidity.

What sort of driving is this? Either its a DUI or arrogance/privilege at its peak! Just hope the victims are safe. This is absolutely crazy and the governance need to really do something about these sort of offences. Looks like this occurred in Jaipur, 1 dies on the spot and other 2 in hospital. Very unfortunate.

Looks like a lost argument with a metro pillar.

There's more to it than that. The missing ORVM, crumpled door handles and scratches on the A-pillar suggest a roll over, probably after a frontal collision at high speed. Not surprising for a tall car like the Scorpio.

I saw this vehicle on Sunday, 6 April. The front airbags were deployed. This picture was taken from a bit closer.

I just want to acknowledge that the Ertiga was going plenty fast; evidently faster than its braking capability, unlike the Motorcycle. From the view of the other car's dash-cam, we can see that the car is coming in just as fast as the Motorcycle, about 4-5 seconds after the Motorcycle has visibly slowed down. Far left, there was an another Motorcylist (with a pillion), whom the Ertiga appears to have overtook at this speed-if not more- between the car with the dash-cam. There doesn't appear to have been enough opening for this car, to have been doing this speed, even regardless of its braking capability, or presence of marked speed-breakers.

I'm not mentioning this to put the 'onus' on the driver. As a Motorcyclist myself, I realise that only the lucky get to think about it. There are a multitude of factors that put the Motorcyclist in far more danger. So, the responsibility will have to be only mine, when it is my life that is on the line. Put it this way, Chitragupta's register is irrelevant to me, by the time he reads mine.

I only mention this to add to ashkamath's post (#41869). Everything mentioned there, I've noticed more in yellow boards than white. In fact, I can't seem to recall ever noticing someone drive this way on their own vehicle- so, yellow boards minus auto drivers it is. I'm sure there are inconsiderate/reckless drivers of their own vehicles too, given the sheer size of our population. But on the road, I only seem to recall facing cab drivers, van drivers, etc. with this behaviour. My 'situational awareness' usually peaks around these guys. I tend to think that they're akin to drunken drivers, and that they give just the exact amount of damn.

Re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

Around 10 pm in the evening, my son was driving our Swift, when he pulled over to the side to receive a call, in one of the tony sectors of Chandigarh. A fast driven Baleno rammed him from behind. The rear right axle broke and the wheel got dislocated beside extensive damage to the rear fender, boot and right side mudguard panel. The Baleno rolled over to the side after the impact. A middle aged lady was driving with a gent as a passenger on left side. My son was unharmed but a bit shaken. He called the police and the area residents extricated the couple. There were no visible injuries. Soon my son's friends reached the spot and as well the couple's. The couple was very wobbly most likely inebriated, they said it was their mistake and they will pay for the repairs. My son called me up and I too felt that no point pursuing the matter if they are willing to pay for the repairs. The police team which had reached fast, drafted a small agreement and everyone decided to go their way.

Certain small actions which my son initially ignored were,
- the lady driver who initially said that she was not injured complained of shoulder pain went away from the site in a kind of hurry.
- the police initially sided with my son but soon started putting pressure on to him to quickly accept the compromise.
- the recovery van to tow Baleno came within half an hour.

I got my car repaired, the insurance bill was working out to approximately Rs 70,000/- with my contribution approximately for Rs 20,000/- for the plastic parts, lights, tyre etc. An FNG assessed total repair cost to be Rs 25000/-. I spoke to the gentleman and got the car repaired from the FNG, paid him and forwarded the bill to the gentleman. I did not receive any response, I reminded him again, he said he was out of station, will come in 10 days time and sort it out. A month or two went by and he always had an excuse, though he never said he won't pay up. After some time I went to the Police and showed them the compromise statement which the police official had countersigned and asked him to be called over to the Police Station and get him to pay up.

The SHO expressed his inability, he said that he is a mere inspector and the gentleman was a Secretary level IAS Officer in an eastern state, that night the couple was out for a dinner in a 5 Star hotel and on their return rear ended your car. Our team which reached the site initially did not know but soon got a call from the higher ups to close the matter. And since they had agreed to pay us the damages the matter was closed. He said he can't imagine that now such a senior officer seems to be going back on his words.

We had a good laugh and he mentioned that the officer is going to retire in a few months time and asked me to come to him after that and he will be able to haul him up. But I told him that I will probably bump into him at one of the social events and sort him out then.

Is it worth to appreciate build quality of car or my observation is wrong? Looks to be front high speed collision, but car body seems to have absorbed the shock and first row looks intact from inside even after so severe damage from front?

In my case, the elderly gentleman who rammed my car paid for the tow truck and offered to settle all damages. But went for total loss claim with insurance so informed him that it was not necessary.

Hate it when people of good education and standing in society go back on their words especially considering it was them who caused the damage.

And your last line looks a bit interesting. Do keep us posted

I've read thru your post and I must appreciate how balanced you've written it without showing any frustration or negativity, even though there is a zero mistake from your side. I think you've peaked in the maturity levels, I must say.

On a lighter note, you should attend that officer's retirement party and give a sarcastic standing ovation "thank you" speech! Please keep us posted.

Horrible news I came across. It's really painful to even imagine the suffering these kids have gone through. Not sure whom to hold accountable.

Two young children, Tanmaya Sri, 5, and Abhinaya Sri, 4, died of suffocation after becoming trapped inside a locked car in Damaragidda, Chevella mandal, Ranga Reddy district. The children were playing and entered the vehicle, and the doors subsequently locked. Unobserved, they succumbed to suffocation.

Tragedy. How many of us have even thought that our unlocked car might become a death trap for children? I guess... they must have activated the lock unknowingly and did not know how to unlock the car.

I don't know about holding anyone accountable. It's a lesson for us all to learn.
