That's a Tata Nexon! While we dont know the exact events leading to the accident, (The article claims tyre burst. If we go by media reports, when isnt an accident not due to tyre burst?) it's a humbling reminder that even a 5 star car has its limits and no one can save us if our time is up!

Waiting to see what cartoq will say about build quality of Nexon after seeing this accident where it is mangled like a Maruti (No offense to owners). No doubt Nexon is a solid car but some articles glorifying it's build quality are a bit too.... paid.

Bro, please watch Ellen Langer's mindfulness videos. But with such thoughts you are bound to overthink and get yourself anxious and depressed gradually without even knowing it.

Although the rest of the things are true, life is cheap anywhere in the world. In India we have a huge population and hence bound to have such high probability rates. Like in one video it said that the happiest country in the world has the largest amount of suicide rates. When the sad people kill themselves the rest who are left will mostly be the happy ones.

Don't overthink. You might protect yourself in a fortress yet die due to any reason as also you can be born in Syria and live for 100 years.

Sorry for going off topic, I also tend to overthink about all such things during this lockdown only to get myself anxious.

Buy the safest car you can and drive defensively under speed limit.

Brand new car, probably doing good 3 digit speed . Notice the pickup in first photograph looks to be part of the accident, door seems to be off from its place .

No traces of impact at any other point over car except on the LH front door.

Looks like a case of aquaplaning resulting in loss of traction, gone sideways and hit the pole.

HEARTECT is the new-generation platform by Maruti Suzuki that is designed with a core focus on safety. Built with Advanced and High Tensile Steels, the platform has a smooth continuous design for better impact absorption in case of a collision, At the same time, it offers better stability and control for enhanced driving performance and fuel efficiency.
I would like to learn about what kind of high tensile steel Maruti Suzuki uses in the HEARTECT platform
Jokes apart, the way the Swift has deformed, is horrible.

Looks like it's truck drivers fault, he is on the wrong side of the driving lane , he might have had a tyre burst (his front left tyre) , lost control of steering wheel and might have taken Nexon and the Bolero pick up behind it head on. Looks like both Nexon and Truck were in high speeds when the impact happened. Feel sad for the Nexon occupants, it's a brand new car and unfortunately they passed away. No 5 star rated car is safe in case of a high speed collision, recently we've seen a Volvo D90 and now the Nexon.

Based on the number plate, looks like it is owned by a car rental company like Zoom car or Revv. Since there are no other vehicles involved I guess the swift lost control on the wet road , aquaplaned and ended up on the divider bars. Look how it elongted in the first pic. Very scary. Is this the new Heartect Ultra and Advanced high tensile steelplatform maruti is talking about ? Even the chassis is badly mangled in this case like a coke tin.

re: Accidents in India | Pics & Videos

The pole ripped through the heart of the so called heartect platform. It all looks like an eye wash marketing gimmick in the name of innovation. The new swift joins the Baleno league of tin cans. Cruel to be seated in that and travel at 3-digit speed.

PS: Got the point that the car must have been fast, pole is strong, angle is x etc.. but to crumple like this is outrageous and what else can it be called than tin can.

The barrier appears to be a highway divider, not even a pole. The chassis bent and took the doors and roof with it. Shocking.

This car probably cost above 7 lakhs in the road, and the steel used is of the worst grade.

People should be afraid of the sea.
If they are not, they will be going to sea when they should not, and they will be drowned.
We are afraid of the sea, and are not drowned very often.

--- Old fishermen's saying.

I read it on a yachting magazine and have never forgotten it. I have also thought it should apply to driving! I tend to have that awareness that I am actually doing something dangerous when I set out on a long trip, but for day-to-day driving, I forget.

Of course, I don't mean that we should fear getting in our cars. I mean that we should not forget that, although it seems every-day to us, we are doing something dangerous.

The car hit the streetlight pole and uprooted it. Can be seen if zoomed in.

Looks like it spun at high speed and the front left wheel hit the divider and bounced onto the pole. Heavily bottomed out the struts and the LH headlamps flew away in the process.

Hope the driver was alone. Actually the pole might have saved some oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane and its occupants.

These self drive rental cars rarely go solo.

Report of the above accident:

Kaup: Five injured, three critical after car jumps over divider, collides with electric pole
Kaup, Sep 11:
In an accident that occurred on the afternoon of Friday, September 11, a car, the driver of which lost control jumped over a divider and collided against an electric pole. Five people were injured in the mishap in which three are said to be critical.

The accident took place near the old Mescom office of Kaup. The electric pole was uprooted in the collision. The car was badly mangled and the condition of three out of the five in the car is reportedly critical. They are admitted to a private hospital in Udupi.

Sensible reporting that it did not say the usual "car" lost control.

Miracle that the front passenger survived (critical though), and three at the back!

Extremely disheartening to see. The Swift is a total loss. The unending safety issues with Maruti cars ever since their M 800 years with the cold rolled steel body (or did they have any hi-tech term for this?) to the latest high tensile steel and HEARTETC platform (or HEART ACHE platform ?) seems to have had no change for the car's safety standards. Even their claim of rise and rise from zero to four stars in the NCAP or the VBSAP safety ratings do not show any significant changes at the ground level.

We can still believe what this gentleman R.C. Bhargava had said straight from his heart a few decades ago, when asked about the Maruti 800's questionable safety.

He had said that "It is much safer than a scooter." And that applies to their all their new generation vehicles whether you buy it from their conventional dealers or from ARENA or from NEXA.
