Re: ADAS dangerous in India | Sudden, unexpected braking causes rear-end collision I consider myself to be a safe driver with a precautionary driving style (evidence in the fact that I'm running 83k km on my stock brake pads !) and I would still never drive a car in our Indian cities with ADAS turned on.
On the other hand, I always thought ACC would be quite useful on our highways, having used it quite a bit in Germany.
Recently on a drive on the Bangalore-Mysore expressway in a Tata Safari I realised even ACC can be a pain in our traffic situations.
Even with the distance and AEB set at the lowest sensitivity, the interruptions were too much and required many overrides where there was enough space to change lanes, overtake and continue.
This happens for instance when you are in the overtaking lane, there is a slower vehicle to your left, another slower vehicle further ahead in your lane but with enough of a gap to comfortably pass the vehicle to your left, change lanes to the centre lane and continue ahead. The ACC would not allow this and would start braking way too early requiring an override which was very irritating. I so missed regular cruise control as in my other vehicles.
