Given that he did not leap out in front of your car... It would have been your fault. Even if he was not supposed to be there, he was there. Lots of things, animate and inanimate, are on the roads. Generally, in this sort of situation, it is our fault if we hit them.

It reminds me of my Dad's teaching teaser: "When do pedestrians have right of way?"

After going through everything I could think of in the British Highway Code, all right answers but they didn't satisfy him, he told me, "Always! You are not allowed to run over them!"

It is a few days since my father's 30th death anniversary. I can't say that we were very close, but I wish there was some way he could know how much I still value his lessons!

Re: Your near-miss experiences on the road

Had this close shave with a biker who chose to cross a 3-lane road without checking for traffic behind him. Had slam on the brakes and turn towards my right to avoid hitting him. Fortunately there were no other vehicle in my adjacent lane else it could have been nasty. The biker didnt even stop/feel remorse for his actions and just continued as if nothing happened.

Re: Your near-miss experiences on the road

Had a close call on my ay back home from work today. On the ORR Service road (which is a one-way) at the junction to turn into Green Glen Layout. As I was taking the turn, I was surprised to see a Swiggy Delivery guy on one of those Yulu e-bikes coming the wrong side trying join the service road against the traffic. Was going head on into him as I made the turn, so I braked super hard out of reflex while my handle bar was still turned. The road surface was dusty and sandy too because of the rains and my wheels skid forcing me to put all my weight on one leg to prevent a fall. By the time I could regain my balance, the Swiggy guy had sped off. Your near-miss experiences on the road-acc1.jpg

This picture of the map should give a better idea. The red line is my trajectory and the green is the Swiggy guys.

I see that there was also a red car driving the wrong way! I really dislike these kind of drivers.

Indians are very busy people.we can't be bothered to waste our time taking a U turn which could be barely 500 mtrs away. Even if it means potentially saving our lives.

Re: Your near-miss experiences on the road

The one horned rhino at the Manas National Park, Assam, looks too heavy and a hit could have toppled the tourist vehicle. That's a Maruti Gypsy.

Re: Your near-miss experiences on the road

don't know what or who will spring up suddenly
only cautious driving can avoid potential mishaps
anyone driving at a higher speed would have definitely crashed into the vehicle

Thank you. This is another very good instance of being wary of what may come from behind something one can't see through.

Re: Your near-miss experiences on the road

Had a close call on NICE Road.
There were some barricades kept for road maintenance.

Truck driver saw the barricades and started lane change without indicator.
The Red Car unaware of the barricades started moving to right at 08:32 and abandon the move after he saw the barricades.

Truck is already behind me on the left lane and I need to take an evasive step.

Wish there were some sign boards kept on the Left side of the road as well to indicate road works.

Re: Your near-miss experiences on the road

This happened to me last week.

I was driving on the Velachery Main Road on my Suzuki Access and just crossed the Mahalakshmi Nagar signal. I was driving probably on the second lane and there was car in the fast lane crossing me. The opposite lane had a bus pass through. The exhaust smoke from the bus made a full-size newspaper flew towards me skipping the car, and it got caught on to my helmet. Now I'm fully blinded on what's Infront of me. Took me couple of seconds to recover. Applied brakes slowly on the left and pulled over the newspaper. Luckily the biker and the car behind me saw this and slowed down.
Reached to the left of the road, discarded the paper in a better place and drove away.

Thanks to my stars and to the biker and the car behind.

Re: Your near-miss experiences on the road

This happened with me yesterday while I was out on a morning ride. I was fully geared up with all the proper riding gear. This idiot auto driver came to main road from a pocket road without even looking for other vehicles. I was constantly honking and this idiot didn't even stop. ABS saved my day

Re: Your near-miss experiences on the road

How foolish can one be.

An overloaded truck is about to fall gradually.
People get a chance to take out mobile camera and start recording.

Two cars neglect the danger and decide to drive past it. One car had a near miss but the other had a very close call.

Be idiot-ready! Be prepared to stop!

Well, you were, and you did.

Oh, good grief!

Although it is individuals, not a mass of people, this is on a par with a couple of the most insane news items I have seen:

1. People running towards a burning fireworks (cracker) factory.

2. People crowding at the remaining ends, over the water, of a bridge when the centre portion had just been washed away.

As for the usual mobile cameras, I'm glad this was (safely) captured: it's quite a sight. And a great warning to post here.
