Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

I travelled from Pune to Agra on 20th March and returned on 26th March. Below are a few updates on road.

Route taken : Chakan - Nasik - Dhule - Sendhwa - Indore - Dewas - Biaora - Guna - Gwalior - Agra.

Chakan - Nasik : Road work is in progress till Ale Phata. In village areas the road is still two lane and causes traffic snarls.
Flyover work is in progress before Sinnar.

Nasik - Dhule : Road is excellent. Beware of speed cameras though. I noticed one right after crossing Dhule.

Dhule - Sendhwa : The road condition is average at best. Lot of broken road surface.

Sendhwa - Indore : Excellent road

Indore - Dewas - Biaora - Guna: Excellent road. Official speed limit is 100 kmph. Though crossing Indore can be a pain given the traffic.

Guna - Gwalior : Road work is in progress in Guna for around 5-10 kms. Beyond that it is a fast road.

Gwalior - Agra : I did not take a the Gwalior byass and instead went from an alternate route. It's a straight road and can save you approximately 40 kms. The route is as follows :

Chaudhary Dhaba - Moti Jheel - on to the Agra highway. It passes through a market and can get busy at times. I crossed it early morning and sailed through it in onward and return journey.

Once on the highway after crossing Gwalior, the roads are busy right till Agra, with everything under this sun literally living on the roads. Those slow moving trucks, battery operated three wheelers, cars, cycles, handcarts, jaywalkers, live stock etc.

Entering Agra is again a pain, with pretty bad road condition. Once on MG road, things are a little better, but the city traffic is BAD.
If someone were to record bad drives there, I am sure, the "bad drives" thread would be overflowing with updates every second.

I took a night halt at Guna in my onward journey and Shirpur while returning.

Timings :
Start from Pune : 3:30 AM
Reached Guna : 5:00 PM
Started from Guna : 4:00AM
Reached Agra : 2:00 PM ( if not for Agra city traffic, would have reached by 12:00 noon)
Took appropriately 2 hours of break in the journey.

Start from Agra : 4:00 AM
Reached Shirpur : 7:00 PM
Took appropriately 3 hours break
Strated from Shirpur: 4:00 AM
Reached Pune : 2:00 PM
Took appropriately 4 hours break including a visit to Gargoti natural stone museum at Sinnar, which took appropriately 2 hours.

Diesel hadn't crossed Rs. 90/- per liter when I refuelled in Agra.
The Ecosport returned an average of around 19kmpl!

One additional thing that I noticed was, on most toll booths in Maharashtra, the rfid wasn't read automatically. They either had to use the car number or use handheld device to deduct the toll amount. This caused a bit of delay.

Highway 152-D- update

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans–Haryana_Expressway

There's a new highway coming from Narnaul to Ambala. This will connect the Jaipur/ Gurgaon/ Delhi Airport traffic as an alternate route for Chandigarh/ Punjab and Ambala.

Currently, some sections on this route are operational, but many bridges are still under construction and broken patches. For some reason, Google is showing this road functional (now with some under construction signs, though), but these sections are not motorable. Please do not follow google for this section.

We got stuck up a few days back while coming from Chandigarh to Gurgaon.

New Jaipur Chandigarh Highway

This sounds good!

I'm about to drive from Mumbai to Panchkula sometime next week via Jaipur, so this should help.

Anyone who uses this new road, kindly update details.

Don’t venture yet until it's formally inaugurated. The last time I went, there are many bridges to be built and I don’t think this will be ready in the next 3-6 months.

You can use either EPE (continue till Panchgaon and then take the exit for Sonipat) or via Bawal- Rohtak(bypass) - Panipat.

I have been confused with route options by almost everyone i asked.
So, Here I am the only place where I should have asked first about the route.
Requesting fellow bhpians to help with the best route from Nanded to Sangamner.
I will be driving solo and plan to leave nanded on 15th August at 4 AM.

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Hi,

I plan to Hyderabad Bhopal in first week of August.

Will be traveling towards Nagpur - Betul - Bhopal

Is there any way i can avoid Nagpur's city traffic jam. I have heard there is a long flyover close to Nagpur airport which cuts across some part of traffic.

Is there any alternative route bypassing Nagpur. Don't mind travelling 20-30 Kms extra on faster roads.

The Outer ring road is still a work in progress, i believe

Thanks

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

An update on the Mumbai - Thane - Nashik route.

The roads till the toll road starts are a mess. Especially towards Nashik.
Add to that the patchwork (paver blocks + pebbles) is on-going and is making the traffic even worse as the traffic is stopped when the potholes are filled.

Last week (Friday) it took 3.5 hours to reach from Mumbai to Padgha which should have been covered in less than 2 hours.

There is none. But I didn't find any difficulty crossing Nagpur at 7 pm. There were couple of points where it is slow, otherwise remaining sections were free flowing.

I stayed near the airport. I believe you are referring to the double decker flyover. I had travelled on this completed flyover in November 2020.

I think you should be fine even in City traffic. There is one flyover near airport and the other one 5-6 kms later which sees you out of city.

Last time I reached Nagpur at 12 noon and the traffic was free flowing. I completed Hyd to Bhopal in less than 12 hrs with breaks. Very good roads all the way through. Roads may have deteriorated after rains in Hyd to Nagpur stretch because they are not RCC. I'm planning this route on 15th Aug week, would you please update this thread with conditions. TIA.

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

heard a bridge (out of two) isn't operational between Hoshangabad and Mandideep stretch.
All the traffic is being diverted on the single operational bridge.

So the travel is reportedly taking longer time.

Hello travelers!! Its time for me to hit the road again. Have to again travel to Agra from Pune.

Since my last travel in March, I had to visit Agra again sometime in end of May.
Roads were fine till then. I am hoping to get some updates on road conditions post the rains. Has someone recently travelled (After May) from Pune to Agra?

If yes, can you please let me know of the road conditions? I will be travelling in the next or next to next week.

My usual route is always the same :

Pune -> Nasik -> Dhule -> Indore -> Guna -> Gwalior -> Agra

Auto.com has rehashed a not-so-new one from him.

However, the latest (today) is that the said in parliament, locals will soon be exempt from paying toll within cities.

Wonder how will it work out or be implemented.

For ex:
Hyderabad - will locals be exempt from tolls on the ring road ?
Bangalore - tolls on BETL and the elevated road towards Nelamangala ? How about NICE road ?

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Nowadays, Announcements are Big, but results are a whimper. All smoke and no fire. 50-100mm of Rain, and the Road vanishes.

Unlike in previous decades, we've access to global technologies, still our methods have not changed. The same International Contractor has better roads elsewhere in other countries, but not in India. 40% cut maybe one of the reason.

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Planning for a trip to Ajanta Ellora in coming week (Sunday 7th) from Bangalore. On the way, for long time wanted to visit Kopeshwar temple, so, would like to route via Kolhapur. So would like to know any update on the road condition between Kolhapur and Aurangabad (Sambhajinagar)

The mega "Road Updates" thread-kolhapuraurangabad.jpg

- is the road selected above good, any bad patch, things to keep in mind, available breaks for breakfast/lunch? Or any alternate route suggested? Want to know keeping the monsoon and rain in mind. I'll drive in day time only.

It's ok for me that I avoid the route via Kolhapur if road condition is too bad from there (and go Via Bijapur-Solapur).

So any details, suggestion would be helpful.

Thanks,
