I see what you mean. That bypass road towards Expressway will be a boon for many. Thank you for the details.

Hi - I know your update is pretty dated, but it is still very helpful nonetheless. I am keen to know if the stretch between Hanumana on MP-UP border to Varanasi or Chunar is complete. Have you, or anyone you know traveled this road recently. I know that this is up for inauguration by end of February but keen to know of final motor-able conditions. Am looking to drive back from Patna via Mohania, Mirzapur, Hanumana to Jabalpur and onwards to Bangalore via this route. Your assistance will be helpful. Thanks.

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Hi All - this forum seems like a "go-to" forum for road conditions across the country, so hopeful someone will pick this up and respond. Thanks in advance for the support.

I am keen to know if the stretch between Hanumana on MP-UP border -- Mirzapur -- upto Chunar is complete. Road widening word was in progress as per my last update. Has anyone traveled on this route recently, especially those coming in from Bangalore or Hyderabad or Jabalpur towards Patna. I would like to avoid Allahabad and Varanasi thus keen to know if this route is up and functional.

I know that this road is up for inauguration by end of February but keen to know of final motor-able conditions. I plan to go back from Patna to Bangalore in first week of March via Mohania, Mirzapur, Hanumana to Jabalpur and onwards to Bangalore via this route. Your assistance will be helpful. Thanks.

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Gurgaon-Bhopal
Hi Folks, I am planning to drive down from Gurgaon to Bhopal towards feb end. I would normally stop at 8hrs of driving on long trips as i am the only driver, but this time i have to complete the trip in a single day, preferably before dark. Can you please share your experiences on the below queries:

1. Which are the sections with bad roads that can eat up a lot of time?

2. Would you recommend taking the Yamuna expressway by crossing delhi or going via KMP expressway to Palwal & take NH-19?

3. Any good highway stops between Gwalior & Guna for lunch?

Did this section in April 2021. I guess the conditions to be same now.

1. No bad sections. All 4 lane roads till Bhopal. Except one or two small stretch of single lane roads.

2. Don't take the Yamuna Expressway. You will loose lot of time in crossing Agra.
The best route is Gurgaon-Western Peripheral exp- Join old Delhi Agra road after Palwal - Agra Bypass- Gwalior Bypass-Shivpuri Bypass-Guna Bypass- Beora-Bhopal.

3. No good stops in that section. Better to carry own food.

Start at 6:00 in the morning and you can very easily reach Bhopal 6:00 in evening with couple of breaks.

1. No bad sections per se - Gwalior-Guna section sometimes has a few potholes -around monsoon, but should be ok now
2. Take Etawah exit and then onto Gwalior
3. A few decent places in the outskirts of Gwalior on Guna highway. I have not driven there after COVID but in general in MP, good eating joints outside big cities is rare. Not sure if things have changed much. In areas where I used to travel a lot, Gujarat > Maharashtra >> MP in food availability.

I had travelled on this route in first week of Jan. some 25-30 kms stretch pending (from Narayanpur turn to Dagmagpur) which has lot of diversions but manageable. Also toll is now being collected post Lalganj but had scanning issues as it had just started, should be streamlined now. Also for driving from Patna to Varanasi direction I will suggest Patna-Naubatpur - Dehri route as Mohania section had too many diversions due to four laning work (but do check for latest update).

1. 99% 4-lane divided highway with excellent tarmac. Except before Shivpuri, for 4-5 kms, it is 2-lane undivided as it goes through a protected forest, but good road surface. Then, Guna bypass is under construction for 4-laneing, so only one side is open for traffic, with lots of speed-breakers, that might cost you a few extra minutes. Gwalior bypass has a few potholes so be watchful there. Biaora to Bhopal is a brand new 4-lane divided highway.

2. Agree with what @Columbus said above.

3. Two nice options.
Hotel Veda : 1 km south of intersection with NH27.

Chauka Chulha : On Mumbai bound side, right between Shivpuri & Guna.
I took this trip in May & June of 2021, in the middle of the second wave, so Hotel Veda had limited service then, but looked good if opened fully. Chauka Chulha was closed but my parents stopped here in 2019 & were impressed.

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Hi folks,
I am planning a trip from Goa to Agra/ Lucknow in my Scorpio.

I intend to drive from Goa- Kolhapur- Pune, then do the Nashik - Indore- Gwalior- Agra route.

Please give me your inputs on the road conditions and any suggestions for the road trip.

Prefer not going into the city areas and do a night stop over in either Pune or Nashik. Then a stopover in Indore and then straight to Agra.

Is this do-able, and how are the road conditions between Indore and Gwalior. Heard lots of reports of tyre punctures along the way, which may be intentional.

Please let me have your inputs.

Thanks

Hello,

I did Noida--Bhopal--Noida at the end of Jan 2022, and previously did Mumbai--Bhopal--Mumbai in July 2021.

For Mumbai-Indore part, you can read more on this thread (Mumbai to Bhopal : Route Queries) as well as on Pune--Indore thread here (Pune - Indore : Route Queries)

As for Noida/Delhi to Bhopal, here are some thoughts:
1) Bad Roads / Traffic Areas:
Agra to Gwalior is a busy stretch of 4 lane, with tons of truck traffic + local traffic, especially when crossing towns like Morena, Dholpur and others smaller towns where they don't have elevated flyovers/bypass. Definitely will be the slowest stretch in the whole journey. Don't think it has changed much from your last trip, ApriliaNut. Sadly, even Gwalior bypass doesn't seem to have changed much. Still some bad patches. But you will get some good hotels/restaurants on the bypass now. Depending upon the time, it might not be a bad idea to cross Gwalior city as I didn't encounter as much traffic while going to Bhopal, and traffic was manageable vs. the bad roads on bypass (on my return).

Guna Bypass is still under expansion, and in some stretches, its 2 lane with lot of construction work and big speed breakers. Life will be good soon, but currently, its a pain, especially when you are behind a trail of trucks. You will likely cross trucks from both sides (left & right) wherever space is available and while opposite side trucks are slowing down for speed breakers ahead. Stay vigilant in this section from some construction materials which aren't always safely put up and tend to protrude on the main road.

Other than this, crossing Agra remains a pain. The Inner Ring road is not yet fully done, and be careful with the path Google Maps shows as soon as you get off Inner ring road and the road towards Gwalior road. Also, Inner Ring Road toll doesn't take Fastag (INR 40) even though the road follows straight from Expressway.

Expect some traffic & mismanagement on toll plazas between Agra & Gwalior. Combination of rowdy local drivers + tractors + sizable truck movement.

Rest of the journey is fine, especially the NH after Guna to Biaora is good, and Biaora to Bhopal is excellent.

For food/restaurants:
1) you already know of Hotel Veda at Shivpuri bypass. That was quite good.
2) There is a relatively new place (atleast it looks new, and quite clean) called "K2 square highway treat" at Sutai which was good. We only had tea and snacks, and it was quite nice. He made custom adrak kadak chai and it hit the right taste for me. Here is the link.

Honestly, apart from this, I don't think i saw good places that easily on the stretch between Gwalior & Bhopal.
Relatively, enough places between Delhi -- Gwalior though the quality & count will never be as good as a Delhi-Jaipur or Delhi-Chandigarh

Hope this helps
Cheers!

Sorry for the late reply.

We had to cut short our trip and return back from Nasik. A few events took place which killed the vibe of the trip. Sometimes you just get that feeling that things re not right to proceed further.

The road from Pune to Nasik was good but the traffic and signals once you head out of Pune is Crazy.

Re: The mega "Road Updates" thread

Hyderabad - Rishikesh (Joshimath)- Hyderabad

Friends,
we have booked a trek in mid April that starts from Joshimath. We are family of four and planning to drive from Hyderabad. Need some help in planning the most efficient route and travel plan (duration, stop over recommendations etc.). Based on high level research, the current plan is to start from Hyderabad early morning and stop at Sagar (not sure we can stretch till Jhansi), next day Sagar to Rishikesh (or Dev Pryag) and finally Rishikesh/Dev Pryag to Joshimath.

Except Hyderabad - Nagpur stretch, I haven't driven on this route. Please help with any insights on best route and road conditions. Also, can we stretch until Jhansi from Hyd day 1 - is that possible?

Thanks in advance for your advice and help on this
