Panzi La being open is good news, early days would be hell with snow-melt, slush and water.

Today morning's news form a Kargil hotel was that it was not open! Did RK Bharat pass through?

Must have closed again. Its always unstable this time of the year. However this means, it should be open in the next 3-4 days.

Day 1 - Thane to Jaipur - 1170 Kms
Day 2 - Jaipur to Jammu - 790 Kms
Day 3 - Jammu to Kargil - 495 Kms
Change plans. Do not go to Jaipur, instead take Kishangarh highway
Day 1 ; Somewhere in RJ
Day 2: Jammu
Day 3: Kargil

Day 4 - Kargil to Rangdum-Pensi La-130 Kms
Day 5 - Rangdum to Leh - 341 Kms
Perfect, you see Durang Durung and then come back to Rangdum
Quote:
Day 6 - Leh - Rest day - Permits
Day 7 - Leh - Local Site Seeing
One day is enough in Leh. Take one day later if you get chushul permits and are able to save a day

Quote:
Day 8 - Leh-Khardung La-Panamik-Deskit - 225 Kms (Panamik can be skipped)
Day 9 - Deskit-Wari La-Pangong - 225 Kms

Day 10 - Pangong - Rest Day
Good, 2 nights in Pangong will be interesting, you can stay at a home stay in Merak on night 2

Quote:
Day 11 - Pangong-Hanle (via Chuchul if permitted / Kakasang La) - 204/253 Kms
Day 12 - Hanle to Tso Moriri - 150 Kms
Leave very early.

Day 13 - Tso Moriri to Sarchu via Tso Kar - 219 Kms
Day 14 - Sarchu - Manali - 223 Kms
Day 15 - Manali - Rest Day
Day 16 -Manali to Ambala - 348 Kms
Day 17 - Ambala to Udaipur - 870 Kms
Day 18 - Udaipur to Thane - 713 Kms
Do This : Manali - South PB (stay night there) and then take Kishangharh highway.

GC is the issue on Kyun Tso route. you can attempt it and turn back if you find it tough. Hanle to Tso moriri is almost 100% smooth tar on normal route, so even if you waste 2-3 hours, you are good.

Re: Leh, Ladakh and Zanskar - The Ultimate Guide

Thanks Tanveer for your valuable inputs.

few questions to clear doubts.

1. where does the Kishangarh Highway start and end ? Tried finding some info on Google but did not get complete information.
2. Doing a home stay in Merak is a good idea. Will save some distance the next day and a different experience as well. what is the probability of getting a home stay in Merak ?
3. How is the road via Kakasang La ? you have advised to leave early. Is that because the detour will take time ? Will we still need permits for chushul ?
4. On the second day at Pangong, would you suggest attempting Marsimik La without any issues to the vehile ? as far as the vehicle can go..types.
5. Wanted to do Shyok but it will be difficult for a 2WD I suppose.
6. Since you have not commented on Deskit-Wari La-Pangong, I am assuming we can do it in Xylo.
7. Will try attempting Kyun Tso and as you said, will turn back if it is too difficult.

Awaiting your suggestions.

Regards,
Rahul

Even if you do not get Merak, Spangmik is easy

For hanle take Tsaga La route. Kakasang La can be difficult if there are diversions

you can attempt, but it can be troublesome if you get too adventrous

Doable, its a tar road

Yes, best strategy. If you reach Kyun Tso, Thit Zarbo La downhill should not be an issue. Just don't take your vehicle off the track to sand etc.,

Diversions mean road work or something going on ? I wanted to see Mirpal Tso and Yaye Tso after reading your post and hence asking. Also the road seems ok from the images you have posted so dared to think of this route. I guess, Tsaga La could be an issue if permits are not issued, right ?

We are also thinking of personally visiting the DC office for the permits rather than relying on the travel agents, what say ? Guess, there could be more chances of getting the permits after being present personally.

I won't do any adventure, but just go till your vehicle can easily go or return back types.

Rahul

Yes, they are kind to families. As for the Kakasang La route, if due to road work they create shortcuts, you could have a tough time since the pass is very steep. that said, even if you do not reach Kakasang La, you will lose 2 hours going to Mirpal Tso and back. But then you could get lucky!

Was going through Google Maps and thought of asking about a detour to reach Srinagar via Jammu-Udhampur-Patnitop-Doda-Kishtwar-Sinthan top-Anantnag-Srinagar ?

what would you suggest ? Is this route doable by MUV. I have read, Sinthan top route is much more traffic free and scenic than the regular Jammu-Srinagar route via Ramban.

Yes, its doable, but its longer, road surface till Sinthan from Jammu side is bad too. If you have time, you can do it. Its lovely

I had recently seen a youtube video on Rockcut wonders of Pangi Kishtwar where a single lane road goes via the rockcut mountain with valley on one side of the road. I am not sure if that road was of Pangi or Doda-Kishtwar route. The road was scenic but seemed equally risky. Does the Kishtwar road look like the one in the video ?

We can change the plan to halt at Srinagar/ Sonamarg on Day 3 and then proceed further adjusting 1 day there.

I would like to see Sinthan top as I have heard a lot about it. Only worry could be Doda-Kishtwar Section as mentioned above.
pls. confirm.

I think that is Sach Pass. Sinthan top road is not that dramatic, though scenery is very good.
you can take that if you have time
