Re: Coorg recommendations

Hey all,

For someone who intend to drive to coorg and adjoining areas in the month of April (mid-April), is it worth the drive considering the weather will be on the hotter side? I am planning a 10 days trip to down south from Mumbai. So far what I have gathered is that coorg, munnar, ooty etc are best visited during monsoon.

It would be of great help for any such suggestions!
You can check out The Lodge in Madekeri. It is almost in the center of town though you wont know it since it is in a bye-lane.

You can read reviews here https://www.google.com/travel/search...AAAAHQAAAAAQBQ

You can book via airbnb. However if you book directly with the owner Rishya you will get it cheaper. His number is "Nine seven + 3 9 6 3 0 9 1 9" and you can whatsapp him

Re: Coorg recommendations

My search ended with "Sun Birds Homestay" at the outskirts, budget friendly, at a calm n serene green environment near to golf club. It's just a stay with a option to opt for food at additional cost where they get from 3rd party vendors.

Since there is also food delivery option from Swiggy/Zomato at this stay, I'm happy. I can drive to or get it ordered from "Paakashala" pure veg restaurant just 3kms away.

Also it's just beside Starscapes Observatory which we have booked for a Celestial Night show.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

In my search I really liked Deep Woodz Estate Stay & Rosewood Stay. Both stole my heart, but had to drop because of non veg options being part of their menu. But they look really awesome.

So going ahead with the plan. Leaving NCR on the 6th, will be starting for Coorg from Mumbai on the 12th. The plan is as follows:
  • 12th Apr: Mumbai-Agonda
  • 13th Apr: Agonda-Coorg
  • 14th-15th-16th Apr: Coorg
  • 17th Apr: Coorg-Agonda
  • 18th Apr: Agonda-Pune

Any suggestions on route/restaurants en-route? This is our very first visit to Coorg, which are the must visit places that we should cover?

Spend 2 or 2.5 days in Madikeri, otherwise not worth driving the distance. Madikeri-Talacauvery-Bhagamandala-Madikeri alone is a day's trip. You'll need another day to see other places around.

I'd say cut out Agonda one or both ways and drive to Madikeri. You can get to Tumkur on day 1. Drive the remaining way on day 2 and cover places near Kushalnagar like Dubare, Nisargadhama.

If you want to cover an additional place, I'd either include Mysore on the way in or any of the KA beaches on the way out.

Thank you. Will add Madikeri to our itinerary. The only reason to stay at Agonda is to stop mid-way to coorg and drive through Murudeshwar, Marvanthe. I just checked Tumkur is 16+ hrs as per Google.

Any other mid-way halt that is 10-12 hrs from Mumbai?

You could also halt at Hubli and do Hubli-Hassan-Madikeri. That way you cover Belur/Halebid, Chikmagalur. This is a few hours shorter timewise than the coastal route but then you miss out on the coastal road.

One option is you can halt at Agonda either enroute or return from Madikeri and possibly not both ways.

Re: Coorg recommendations

So people I am currently on a road trip from Mumbai to coorg.

Right now already in coorg.

My route was
Day 1:Mumbai-Malvan via pune kolhapur highway
Day 2: halt in Malvan
Day 3: Malvan -Gokarna( via Goa)
Day 4: Gokarna - Udipi (stayed at yermal beach)
Day 9: udipi -coorg

Now on my return i am halting at Dandeli.

Need suggestions regarding Madikeri-Dandeli route.

Option 1: follow the same coastal route back and take a diversion from gokarna to go up to Dandeli.

Option 2: go via Hassan-Davanagere to Dandeli.

I really have no information about option 2.

Time shown on google maps is almost the same for both routes.

Can someone please help me with selecting the route.

I’m with my family on this trip.

Considering, you have already done the coastal route on the way in, you could take Hassan > Arsikere > Davangere > Dandeli route.

Re: Coorg recommendations

Finally we did a 5 day trip last week and stayed at "Sunbirds Homestay" at the outskirts of Coorg located beside golf club. Nice location for one who loves to stay amid nature at the same time not burning their pockets! Food will provided on request. Clean rooms and toilets. Host was supportive. We enjoyed the calm and serene atmosphere around.
Some pics of the stay and around:

Re: Coorg recommendations

Hello all,

This is a late post (stay was in May 2023), however I stumbled onto this thread today and found one or two queries about Ama Trails & Stays (formerly Taj Plantation Trails), so wanted to share a few pictures since I never found good quality photographs online before our stay.

For background, we rented a 3 bedroom bungalow (Surgi bungalow) for the 6 of us. The bungalow comes with its own kitchen & dining area. There is a common living room that is large, spacious and has leisure board games, books, television, etc.
Every bedroom is air-conditioned and has an en-suite bathroom with good quality toiletries provided. Daily housekeeping is provided with linen change.
The upkeep of the bungalow is immaculate, and everything works perfectly.
One can also have only one bedroom booked, if they are not in a large party. In such cases, you share the common areas.

The location of the bungalow is right in the middle of a plantation, and since we didn't bring a car, we opted for all-inclusive meal plan. The bungalow has a full-time chef & a butler who apart from serving the dishes, can accept your requests and make plantation safari bookings for you as well. They asked us for what we would prefer for each meal and within reason, they can fulfil your wishes. Quality of food was excellent across the board. They even prepared an outdoor barbecue meal for us on our last night, which was memorable to say the least.

Last but not the least, there is an EV charging point, installed by Tata Power (of course!).

Re: Coorg recommendations

Can someone suggest a good place to stay in Coorg with a 5 year old? Not planning on sight seeing, so if the resort has good amount of space/activities would be good. Not looking at luxury properties. Thank you.

Club Mahindra Virajpet property can be considered, as it's huge and has a big children's play area. Bit of remote location outside city though.

So finally visited coorg yesterday. However it was a short visit. We visited Mercara Coffee Plantation and ended up spending 4+ hrs there. Left from Mangalore post breakfast, took a guided tour at plantation, drove to Wayanad for the night. We were lucky to get some rains! For some reasons most of the hotels in Coorg were sold out, so decided to stay at Wayanad instead. This place is so much cooler than coorg, when we reached coorg it was 32 degrees Cel.
