My sister is currently living in Malegaon, so thats a compulsory stop

From Malegaon, I ended up taking least suggested route. Malegaon -> Shirdi -> nagar -> hadapsar.
My sister’s FIL informed me that there is an expected traffic jam on Nashik route at Narayan gaon because of some road patch work and some mandi activity. The day before our travel there was a jam which lasted for 2 hours, hence we decided to take the other route.
This route is indeed not in its best shape, but was not that bad as I expected it to be. There were patches of bad roads between shirdi and kopergaon, but we were able to manage and cross it within time.
Started from Malegaon at 6:00 AM on Saturday morning and reached Home at around 11:45 AM, thanks to traffic at wagholi, else we would have reached at-least 20 mins before.

Have spent last 4 days in cleaning the house , but still happy to be back in Pune after 15+ months.

Re: Pune - Indore : Route Queries

Hi team,
From pune to dhule which one is a better route.
1. Pune-sangamner-kopargaon-yeola-manmad-malegaon-dhule.
2. Pune-sangamner-nandur shingote-lasalgaon-chandwad-malegaon-dhule
I've already tried the nasik route and it was fine. Tried the kopargaon yeola route several years ago but don't know present condition, wasn't any good then. Never tried lasalgaon chandwad route. Can anyone please help with the present condition of roads.

Thanks

Point 1:
Nadur Shingote to Lasalgaon was an absolute mess this March - especially first 40 KMs from NandurShingote.
It took me 1.5 hours in Safari. I cannot comment on its present situation.
Avoid this route - no matter what car you have, till someone confirms with absolute assurance that this is in good shape.

Point 2:
With Harvest season ongoing - you may face massive traffics snarls around Mandi area in Lasalgaon. (but this is conditional)

It is the best route otherwise. (if only road is in good shape)

If you want to explore alternate routes.
Try
1: Sinnar - Ojhar (20-25 KMs of Bad Patch - Status as of Feb)
or
2: Sinnar to Pimplegaon Baswant.
or
3: Ahmednagar - Aurangabad - Dhule.(Chalisgaon ghat can be a nightmare occassionaly).

Ahmednagar - Aurangabad - Chalisgaon section is in good condition. However Chalisgaon to Dhule section is in extremely bad shape. The road is littered with craters for 30 kms or so till you cross into Dhule district.

I would recommed Pune - Ahmednagar - Aurangabad - Chalisgaon route. If you start early from Pune say 5 am you beat traffic in all the big towns enroute. Barring Chalisgaon - Dhule section road is in good shape plus you have to pay only 90 rs toll.

Thanks a lot guys, just one more thing, any idea of which route would be having lesser tolls and also be the shortest.
Grateful 🙏

1. Via Nasik, Distance ~350 kms, Toll ~500, Road Condition Good.
2. Via Kopargaon Shirdi, Distance ~320, Toll 135, Road Condition Bad
3. Via Aurangabad, Distance ~ 360, Toll 90, Road Condition Good.

Re: Pune - Indore : Route Queries

dpat17: Wouldn't the route via Nasik be a better experience given better breakfast options and the fact that from Nashik its the Mumbai Agra highway? I did both few years ago and yes my experience is dated but I found route via Nasik better in overall experience. I am driving to Bhopal in 2 weeks and chose an overnight stay at Nasik rather than at Aurangabad. Plan is to start at 2:00 PM.

Re: Pune - Indore : Route Queries

Stick to Nasik route. Makes no sense to go via Aurangabad from Pune. Kannad is a pain and Chalisgaon-Dhule isn't good either.

Believe me it is not worth the torture that both you and your vehicle will endure by taking any of these supposedly faster/cheaper routes.

I drive almost every month between Pune and Indore and have tried and tested all possible combinations out of boredom and inquisitiveness to test, net result: Pune - Nasik - Indore wins hands down all the time.

I am sadistically happy to add more to your confusion:
{I posted this on Pune - Nashik Route query thread, but missed it here: }

Fed up with massive traffic snarls while exiting Pune (while travelling to Indore) at within City till Chakan then Rajgurunagar, Manchar and Narayangaoin & sometimes Alephata as well: I have tried going Via (few times till last year) - well its applicable both ways.
> wakad - Khopoli - Karjat - Shahpur - Igatpuri - Nashik - Indore.

Except Khopoli to Karjat route was in very good condition. Only last 10-15 KMs before Shahpur were with some potholes (not bad).

Since we started around 6 AM, i recall - reaching Nashik around 11, with one stop for breakfast & two short stops for Bio Breaks.

This route will be beautiful & scenic during & after Monsoon.
You wont regret 120 or 190 rs toll at Pimplegaon. Road after Shahpur is rocket.

Don't want to diminish your sadistic pleasure, but I am aware of this route. It passes through murbad if I am not wrong

Re: Pune - Indore : Route Queries

Planning to leave early between 5 to 6 from Nashik. Any breakfast stop recommendations at or after Dhule?
Options at Nashik for this time are also welcome.

Pure Veg options that we had tried>

Vitthal Kamat at Hotel Manas - ~500 m after Dhule toll gate.
+ Food is tasty but
- Service can be a bit slow.

Or Hotel Rajshri just before Chandwad is also a good option.
+ Food & Service are excellent.
- Washroom was a mess.

Provided both are still there & Covid has not killed them, yet.

Both will be on your your left side only, hence no going in opposite direction.

For Non-Veg (I am a vegetarian, hence no Idea about anything) : The board does says it has lot of cuisines available.
There is one hotel Sonigara or Sonalila . Again after Dhule toll gate on the other side of your travel direction.
