Vehicles using the Doddaballapur-Hoskote section of the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) will have to pay the toll from November 17 onwards.

Light motor vehicles will be charged Rs 70 for a single trip and Rs 105 for a round trip within 24 hours. Buses and trucks will pay Rs 240 and Rs 360, respectively.

The STRR will have Karnataka's first boothless toll plaza, meaning there will be no manned toll counters, according to Jayakumar. "A vehicle's number plate and weight will be scanned as soon as it reaches within 50 metres of the toll plaza. If the toll is paid through FASTag and everything else is in order, the boom barrier will open and the vehicle will be let out

Saw this just now. A few thoughts:

Nice technology as long as it works. Will be a nightmare if vehicles keep getting stuck for any blacklisting or balance issue, and staff are forced to walk over to figure things out.

Interesting technique of the slanting row of booths. Looks like they have been able to add one booth on each side in this manner.

The tollbooth is also located rather strategically near the entrance to the KIADB Aerospace Park region as well as the KIAL back gate. From what I can see, anyone coming from Hoskote to KIAL will have to pay the toll. From past experiences with the Sadahalli toll, that is going to raise some hackles or the other!

On the return leg, I did Sira - Madhugiri - Koratagere - Manchenahalli - Chikkaballapur - Devanahalli - STRR - Hoskote - Whitefield and it took 3 hours ( 30 mins more than the onward journey ). The roads are good throughout but you have to pass through all the towns I mention above. Again, minimal traffic, but 2 lanes all the way until Chikkaballapur. This would be another good "backpocket" plan for people in North and East Bangalore.

Hi,

1. What time of the day was this return journey ?
2. Would you recommend this route on a weekday, say around 2 pm from Sira ?
3. Would you recommend this route for destination Brookefield ?

On my way from Hyderabad to Thiruvananthapuram, used the STRR - Hosekote - Malur - Bagalur - Hosur to by-pass Bengaluru on Saturday.

STRR: excellent 6 lane road. Toll has started - ₹70 one way. Be careful about lot of vehicles coming the opposite way on the entry ramp from Devanahalli. Saw a head-on collision between two cars on this road.

Hosekote - Malur: 4 lane divided road, but tarmac is in horrible condition with big potholes all along, heavy traffic as well. There is a narrow railway overbridge when you are going to enter Malur, that is a bottle neck and we were stuck there for 20 mins.

Malur - Hosur: Good quality road eventhough it was an undivided highway. You can go in decent speeds. Google Maps was prompting me to go to Masti and join NH-44 from Shoolagiri, but I decided to join the highway in Hosur since I was unsure of the road condition of that route.

The regular route via Nelamangala - Yeshwantpur - Hebbal - ORR would have a lot of traffic, more so on ORR since metro work in ongoing. What you could do is Dobaspete - Doddabalapura - Devanahalli - STRR - Hoskote - Hope Farm - Brookfield, which is the route airguitar had taken when driving to Sira from Whitefield.

I had an errand at Sira over the weekend. I tried the STRR the whole way to Dobbespet from Whitefield. Whitefield to Hoskote town : 30 mins. Hoskote town to STRR entry : 10 mins. 55 mins from there to Dobbespet. Overall 95 minutes for approximately 100kms without going over the speed limit of 90. From Dabbaspet to Sira : 45 mins.

2 hours, 20 mins from Whitefield to Sira is acceptable to me any day, without any of the stressful traffic. Distancewise, I would think that this is 20-25 kms more.

Malur to Masti roads are okay .
Masti to Berigai single road and broken up.
Berigai to Shoolagiri single road have to pass through the town traffic .

Some updates on STRR. Recently I was close to Malur and saw this.

A satellite view of this development south of Hoskote (Like I had mentioned in an earlier post). If you take a train to Chennai just before you approach Malur you can where it cuts the STRR. Work is on in full swing.

A little surprised by this, given there are enough stretches not fully complete in this section or have they finished up in 2-3 weeks since I last went?

It was a Saturday around 2pm. I would recommend this on a weekday too tbh, but you should definitely prefer the STRR over the Sira-Chikballapur route ( Dabaspet - STRR - Dbpur - Devanahalli - Hoskote - Hoskote Toll - Hopefarm - Brookefield OR Dabaspet - STRR - Dbpur - Devanahalli - Hoskote - Koralur - Thirumalashetty halli cross - Nagondanahalli - Whitefield Outer circle - ITPL - Brookefield : you can avoid hopefarm here ).

Separately, if it's the wee hours of the day ( 5.30am or before, through the city is still better ; especially if you are leaving brookfield at that time )

As per NHAI: According to KB Jayakumar, Project Director (Bengaluru), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Doddaballapur-Hoskote section is 38 km long but only 34 km is being tolled because the remaining 4 km is part of the under-construction Bengalur...

Can you please share a rough GPS location of this intersection, just wanted to see how much of a pain it will be on heading here from Sarjapur side once the work is completed.

The STRR cuts the Bagalur-Malur road some where here.

It then goes beyond Bagalur and cuts the Berigai road here

It then heads towards Hosur road and cuts it here

One option is to take the interior road at Sampanegere and head to Chikka Tirupati and make it to Gunjur and South Bangalore via Carmelaram. But crossing Gunjur is a pain!

That doesn't sound right either TBH, it's more than 4 kms that the work is in progress for. My guess is that it's more: around 12-14 kms.

Never been on that section but Google Maps is showing around 4 km incomplete.

Am also realizing once this section is ready, folks for whitefiled can exit much before Hosur, exit at Malur road, and make it to ITPL via Chikka Tirupati / Old NH207.

I hope the old NH207 also re-done and people can use it. It would make a exit/entry option for STRR in and around Sarjapur.

Or else one has to drive all the way to Hoskote clover leaf exit.

STRR not done for about 12 kms before and after Doddaballapur, you will be riding the old NH648 here. Likewise from Doddabelavangala to Dabbaspet, it's on and off diversions but neither is stressful.

Did this stretch yesterday. From Dobbaspet to Doddanekundi.
From Dobbaspet (start of STRR - 3.27 pm) to Hoskote exit (end of STRR - 4.42 pm) 75 minutes for 78 kms., 20 more than you, probably because of the timing and the ensuing traffic. This took me through DbPur town with heavy commercial and school traffic at that time.

From Hoskote exit to Doddanekundi - about 25 kms - took 50 minutes.:crying

But, yes, definitely better than meandering through Nelamangala - Goreguntepalya - ORR stretch.

The completed roads are superb and hope the rest of the project is completed soon.
